Was first Pharm.D. selected as finalist for this program. The objectives of this study were to determine in antiretroviral-naïve women who had completed one year of HAART: (1) the correlation of self-reported adherence measures with objective measures analyzed during the study period including manual pill count and plasma HIV-1 RNA levels, using a simple questionnaire tool; and (2) the physical barriers and social barriers to antiretroviral adherence at one year after HAART initiation. 3 Tapered versus Standard Vancomycin Dosing for Recurrent Clostridium difficile Infection Co-investigator, University of Illinois at Chicago July 2009 July 2010 Drafted research proposal. The primary objective of this study was to determine if a tapered 6-week dosing regimen of vancomycin for the treatment of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection is more likely to prevent subsequent recurrence(s) and result in a higher rate of clinical cure compared to a standard 10-day regimen. Evaluation of Hospitalized Patients with Clostridium difficile Infection at an Urban Teaching Institution Co-investigator, University of Illinois at Chicago August 2008 July 2010 Responsibilities include retrospective chart review/data collection, reporting and analysis. The primary objective of this study is to assess clinical outcomes in patients with Clostridium difficile infection including symptom resolution, recurrence and severity of disease. Additionally, patients are assessed for known risk factors and appropriate drug therapy management (medication, duration and dose). Impact of Pharmacy Services on Patients Drug Therapy Knowledge in an Oncology Ambulatory Care Clinic Principal investigator, Tampa General Hospital Responsibilities included protocol and survey development, patient education, data collection and reporting. The primary objective of this project was to evaluate patients knowledge of oncology drug therapy pre and post pharmacy education and counseling. The secondary objectives were to assess patients perceived knowledge of oncology drug therapy and patient satisfaction with clinical pharmacy services in the oncology ambulatory care setting pre and post pharmacy interventions. Primary responsibilities and efforts centered on youth outreach and development of youth programs, coordination of conferences and retreats targeting underprivileged youth, promotion of public health awareness, presentation of seminars on HIV/AIDS with a focus on prevention and seminars on sexually transmitted infections, and provided pharmacotherapeutic consultations to volunteer staff, clergy and church congregation members. Established contacts at the Aurum Institute a non-governmental organization based in South Africa that conducts clinical research to treat and eradicate TB and HIV. Missionary Trip to Thailand Provided spiritual education to children and servants/staff at Coptic Orthodox Christian orphanage in Sangkhla buri, Thailand Hands on Tampa Bay with United Way Volunteered in activities targeting homelessness, including soup kitchens and holiday tents. 6 Missionary Trip to Calcutta, India Volunteered with the Missionaries of Charity: provided services to the orphaned, destitute and dying, terminally ill, and mentally/physically handicapped children. Missionary Trip to Egypt Visited rural villages, orphanages, homes for the handicapped and homes for senior citizens with a group of ten medical volunteers to provide medical services to the indigent of Egypt. Have since established and completed a Water Project in two of the rural villages, affording the residents access to clean water in order to prevent illness and promote good hygiene/sanitation. Missionary Trip to Kenya Participated in both medical volunteer services and community outreach. Community outreach consisted of participation in an orphan assistance project, visitations to the ill in several tribal villages, and distribution of food and clothing to the poor. Medical service encompassed volunteer work at the Coptic Hospital pharmacy in Nairobi. Judeo-Christian Health Clinic Volunteered as a pharmacy intern, which included assisting the pharmacist with medication dispensing and counseling to the medically indigent of the Tampa Bay area.
