2 Business Service Management 12.1 Enhancements BSM Client and Server Enhancements Significantly improved performance for calculating and reporting on metric statistics. All hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly metric statistics are now automatically calculated and can be displayed in Portal charts up to 10 times faster. Usability improvements in the BSM Client: Dimensions are displayed in service tooltips; right-click option to display tooltips; clone and modify standard templates; and easier editing of message translators. Reorganization of installed file system (Dojo has moved). Updated Adaptors The SCOM adaptor was upgraded to allow selection of multiple group names in the Metrics tab. The group name will show both the display and full name for the machine. The DMI adaptor was upgraded to allow the use of a custom time range that is controlled by the DMI connection in BSM, not the range of the report in DMI. This enhancement will eliminate duplicate or missing data polls. A new option on the Server Monitoring adaptor Base tab lets you set a delay that covers potential discrepancies between the system time on the Service Model Server and the actual time when the Server Monitoring metrics get into its database. For example, if the option DB Delay is configured as 30 seconds and the adaptor polls at 2:05:00, it will poll data from 1:59:30 to 2:04:30 in order to accommodate any delayed data. The default is 15 seconds. The vcenter adaptor has added a similar delay mechanism. On its Base tab, you can configure a vcenter Delay, which will delay the collection of metrics by the time (in seconds) specified. On the EUE adaptor, you must now select from which CAS version you are polling data. This configuration option is located on the Base tab. See the Data Collection Guide or the online help for more details on these adaptor enhancements. Updated Product Installers To install or upgrade BSM, you must run three separate installers: one each for the Compuware Security Server (CSS), BSM and the Enterprise Portal. If you installed the CSS or Portal for another Compuware APM product, you don't need to install a second instance for BSM. If you are installing BSM for the first time, refer to the Business Service Management Installation Guide (BSM_Installation.pdf). For upgrading an existing release, see the Compuware APM Upgrade and Migration Guide (Upgrade.pdf). Both documents are available in the Business Service Manager\Documentation folder on DVD 1. After installing the Portal, you must deploy the BSM web application, available in the product distribution on DVD 1 in Business Service Manager\EntPortalWebApp. Deploy the version 2

3 that matches the release of your Service Model. If you are installing for the first time, or upgrading to release 12.1, use the 12.1 version. If you are upgrading your Portal, but keeping BSM on a supported back release (11.7 or 12.0), use the applicable back release version of the web application, available on FrontLine. You will need to install the latest service pack for the back releases. As part of the installation reorganization, the Setup Utility was removed. To make changes in the deployment, post-installation, go to the Windows Preferences menu to change database, port, or memory settings as you would have from the Setup Wizard. APM Upgrade and Migration Center Now Available The APM Community's Upgrade and Migration Center has a number of resources to help you plan your upgrade or migration project: Product demonstrations, Technical Talks, release notes and product documentation. Questionnaires and planning templates to help you plan the upgrade project. The questionnaire will help you create an inventory of your current deployment so that you have a baseline from which to plan. Hardware recommendations are available so that you can assess resources you'll need for the new release. Migration and upgrade forums moderated by Compuware APM experts. Enterprise Portal Mobile Application for Tablets and Smartphones Building upon the new fault domain isolation workflow in the Enterprise Portal, Compuware is extending this capability. Operations managers and staff have instant access to Application Health information on their ios or Android smartphones and tablets. With a couple of taps and a few swipes, you can quickly check the health of your mission critical application in real-time, isolate the fault domain of an application problem, and hand it off to the appropriate team to isolate the root cause. 3

4 Lightweight Portal Deployment The Enterprise Portal now has a lightweight deployment. Page weight is lighter and more efficiently deployed in WAN/VPN/wireless networks. Under average network conditions page load delay does not exceed a few seconds. Enhanced BSM Use and Customization BSM is enhanced for better performance and scalability. Compuware has strengthened the base offering to improve the ability to design and implement customized solutions. Innovations include: Faster, simpler deployment and configuration Improved dashboard-rendering performance Reduced database query overhead Improved migration procedures for preserving customized deployments More efficient large-scale model building and maintenance Improved BSM Portlet and Dashboard Functionality BSM has significantly improved performance for calculating and reporting metric statistics. All hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly metric statistics are automatically calculated and display ten times faster. Additional improvements include: Support for Chrome and IE 10 Use of Gauge and Traffic Light charts with raw BSM data New Matrix Table option for the DMI Portlet when using BSM data Ability to hide filter icons within the DMI Portlet Improved communication between the Service Tree and standard BSM portlets, including dimension improvements and the ability to specify channel names Enhancements to UPA portlet, including the ability to hide legends and other titles, and additional summary modes Initiation of the Add-On portlets library with the Tab Navigator Improved dimension display in service tooltips, an option to display tooltips with a right-click, the ability to clone and modify standard templates, and easier editing of message translators Baseline Corridors 4

5 The Baseline Corridor represents the baseline value for each of the following metrics when selected: Application Performance, Operations Baseline, Operation Time, Availability, and Usage (which is measured in total bytes). The corridor height is configurable and represents the deviation from the baseline. The DCRUM Central Analysis Server updates its baselines on a rolling basis (the default is a nine-day rolling average) nightly. Baselines are useful for effective performance management. Baselines can analyze variations in traffic on different days of the week, random anomalies in traffic load, or activity from a specific point in time. Compuware is introducing new capabilities for more effective baselines. Now reports help to define a baseline corridor that appears on time series charts. Users can easily identify abnormal performance conditions. New baseline types are added to handle day of the week performance patterns (weekly baselines) and static patterns (pinned and manually imported baselines). Compuware Security Server (CSS) The Compuware Security Server (CSS) added the following enhancements in Release 12.1: Optional support for Synthetic Monitoring Administrators can also use the CSS auditing feature to view records for configuration changes made in the Synthetic Monitoring console. Client-side caching is available so existing users can continue to log into integrated product components if the CSS is temporarily down. Auditing enhancements allow an administrator to identify the component that was affected by the audit event. Administrators can now configure a default user group that is assigned to all new users. Support for Internet Explorer 10 and Chrome browsers. System Requirements The system requirements for this release are available in Business Service Management Installation Guide. Technical Notes This section includes technical information that may affect how you use this product. New Users Requiring Password Resets When an administrator creates new user accounts in the Compuware Security Server, by default, the new users will need to change their passwords when they first try to access BSM. This also applies when an administrator needs to reset a locked-out user's password. Users can only reset their passwords when logging into the Enterprise Portal; this option is not available when logging 5

6 into the Configuration Client. An administrator can avoid this scenario by deselecting the Password Reset Required option when creating the new user account. Using the Distribution Facility If using the distribution facility in the Enterprise Portal, please note these additional instructions: To render the content of Flash-based portlets, such as certain gauges and graphs, the Adobe Flash Player must be installed on the Portal web server. You must use the 32-bit version of the Windows plug-in, as is used by the Firefox browser. The Active-X version (used by Internet Explorer) is not compatible with the distribution facility After installing the Portal software, you must follow the additional configuration instructions in the file C:\Program Files\Compuware\Enterprise Portal\HeadlessBrowser\PDFGenerator.ini. Changing the Portal JVM Settings The installer initially allocates 50% of the available memory for the portal, up to 4GB. If you must adjust this for your site follow these instructions. For Windows, edit the registry by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0\TomcatWebserver120\Parameters\Java Double-click on the JvmMx property and set it to the preferred value. For Solaris or Linux, navigate to the /opt/compuware/enterprise_portal/tomcat/bin/setenv.sh file and find the JAVA_OPTS variable and make the following modifications: JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Dfile.encoding=UTF8 -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack =true -Xmx1024m:-XXMaxPermSize=256m-Dvantage.controller=liferay -DJSDT.SocketFactory=com.proxima.centauri.messaging.jsdt.HttpsSocketFactory -Dorg.ops4j.pax.logging.DefaultServiceLog.level=ERROR" Enabling Cookies to Support DMI Reports in Internet Explorer When CAS DMI reports are rendered in IFrame, as they are in the Enterprise Portal, you must enable cookies if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 10. For more information, go to Don't Use Special Characters in Oracle If you are using Oracle as your database, the table space name and username for the BSM and Portal databases must contain only alphanumeric characters; don't use symbols or special characters such as dash (-), ampersand (&), or slash (/). Unicode Syntax Conversion Process for the Events Table Portlet Because there is no standard method to specify Unicode character conversion for Oracle, SQL Server and DB2, the following process can be used for customizing the Event Table portlet 6

7 which has a field that holds Unicode string data (NVARCHAR). A file is included for databases that cannot process Unicode syntax for the Event Table portlet. It is located at <install dir>/webapps/centauri/templates/stylesheets/datacalls/ ServiceEventViewerData_NoUnicode.xml. Follow these instructions to use this file instead of the default Events portlet datacall: 1. Navigate to <Portal_Home>/tomcat/webapps/centauri/templates/stylesheets/datacalls/. 2. Back up the current datacall file by renaming it. For example, rename the current file ServiceEventViewerData.xml to ServiceEventViewerData.xml.bak. 3. Rename the new file ServiceEventViewerData_NoUnicode.xml to the ServiceEventViewerData.xml. 4. Restart Tomcat. Resolved Issues The following issues were resolved from previous releases of BSM: Table 1. Both the new and the old Database table names listed in the Task Schedule and Activity Monitoring tab of the console. When polling the POP3 adaptor, messages are returned in the order from the latest to the oldest. Duplicated entries for the TruncateResult and TruncateDataSizeBytes in adaptor configuration. First time the user loads BSM through an IFrame the datablocks are blank. If they close the browser and reopen it, the next time they load BSM through IFrame the datablocks work successfully. When user creates a new SMT and a new Service Type (not a clone), then places the new Service Type on the new SMT, they get the following error in the CS.log: Creation of the rule a2cc51b093cff62d d6a1da3b4-7ffc failed. Rule skipped. java.lang.nullpointerexception. Map view datablock: When you mouse over the icons for a site to see the availability, value is shown as a 14-decimal number, rather than two decimals. Error in the CS.log: IllegaWalkerArgumentsException or SM942. 7

Metrics should be allowed to reset to NULL, otherwise SLA Statistics will be thrown off. Enhancement: When removing/adding an outage it needs to be returned right away on all datablocks with the StatsSource parameter set in the datablock collect. It shouldn't matter which period you are looking for or which service you have selected (if there is no reconciled data it should return the raw data). BSM web application not accessing data URL directly from various systems. DMI table: When importing to a new Portal instance, the data source gets stripped out, with a message at the bottom of the screen that gives no detail to the error. Server Monitoring adaptors taking 10 minutes to poll. Customer has many instance groups and needs to collect Performance Metrics for all the servers in those groups. HTTP 401 error occurs when trying to open a dashboard containing an integrated DMI report datablock. FTP distribution issues. Once a service goes to Normal from Warning a notification cancellation alert is still sent. Services have an Unknown service quality when it should pick up quality of sibling services. Service Model is corrupted and Parameter IDs are wrong - they show up correctly in the EUE channel but not eventstransformed channel Root Cause datablock will not display more than 1 days' worth of events. Presence of the pipe character ' ' within the generated alert message. Health report does not display jobs. CS.log shows timeout errors. Service Matrix datablock configured to display availability for multiple applications over multiple locations as a heat chart. But the datablock didn't work as expected. Documentation states that channel is DMIReportsAdaptorEvents. Channel is actually DMIEventsSMT. On the Patrol rule called Sys_ParseParameter the filter is coded as ((ParameterId!=null)), which when you open the expression builder sets it to ParameterId==null, the opposite of what it should be. Filter in a message translator using null does not work correctly. 8

User has a custom dashboard using three Service Tree controls. When the Browse menu was used for any of the three Service Tree controls, only the first control is updated. Storage of Webservce stubs has high risk factor for generating Path too long errors when creating the stubs. Customer needs the ability to disable weaker SSL ciphers for traffic between Service Model and remote Connection Manager. Messages errors from an SNMP Adaptor. Portal Reconciliation page Preview views don't show updated data. Warning metrics in log: LockTimerTask-WARN: CFG018: Lock for path /Permanent has timed out. Datablock and portlet consistency in documentation. When creating a PDF using Swedish characters, the date if formatted incorrectly. The Manage Pages dialog is unusable. When exporting the configuration from BSM, if you type in a path to export to and the path does not exist, the export appears to complete although it actually does not. Showing a Metric as Epoch Time, and then show it in the Service Table as a human-readable. Services not running after applying service pack. Service Editor does not response when tab is changed from "Metrics" to any other (Japanese language). Some measurement units are not being detected by the BSM data view and cause the DMI portlet to show "No Data." 401 error when logging into Portal with administrator credentials. CAS Alarms (via COS) are generating errors from EUE message translators. PDF Notification Report creation error. 9

Any of the MessageFormatName="ApplicationSoftwareServiceMetric" associated with the slave are coming in with the last qualifier of default. The start time for custom ranges on the Time Range Control is rounded to 00:00. The Data Center Analysis page is not rendered correctly in Firefox. The Time Range Control (Flash version) is not publishing time to the BSM portlets. There is a layout issue using the Dynagrid with row span and a DMI Table under Firefox. You cannot lock a filter on a DMI Table portlet. The DMI Table filters do not honor the negate (!=) operator. CSS 12.1 Resolved Issues This section describes the issues resolved in 12.1: Table 3. When assigning roles to users following a search of users, those not selected are removed from the role selected. Jetty logs combined with CSS logs were filling up all available disk space. Imported LDAP user will be now be automatically removed from CSS once the user is not found in LDAP. Administrator was unable to define LDAP search filter longer than 255 characters. 11

12 Known Issues This section describes known issues related to this release of Business Service Management. Control # DT APMOBSM-575 Exporting a partial selection of Service Model configuration data may result in an import error. To work around this issue, export all Service Model configuration data to ensure that dependent components are not omitted during export. Issues using IE 9 browser. Compuware recommends that you use IE 8, 10 or another supported browser. APMOBSMM-963 If you upgrade CAS to 12.1 and leave BSM at 12.0 or 11.7, performance alerts may not process correctly. Contact Customer Support for a patch for this issue. APMOEPM-1141 When an Admin user logs out of Enterprise Portal, they remain logged in to the CAS. This is working as designed. To view reports correctly you must do the following: 1. Log out from the CAS. 2. Clear the browser cache of any pending connections. 3. Log in as DEMOUSER.
