GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN (For Group Housing& Commercial Building Project) Environmental protection is a line responsibility for which staff at all levels will have accountability. In addition, procedures, guidelines and notices will advise staff on how to respond in the event of an environmental emergency. OBJECTIVES OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN The main objectives of this EMP are listed below: To prepare a detailed action plan for implementation of mitigative measures. To suggest preventive and mitigative measures to minimize adverse impacts and to maximize beneficial impacts. To suggest a monitoring programme to evaluate the effectiveness of mitigative measures. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT DURING OPERATIONAL PHASE: Many of the areas in the environmental management planning are of multidisciplinary dimensions. In EMP all technical, biological and socioeconomical control measures have been envisaged and these pertain to: Water Requirement and Supply System Treatment Technology Solid waste management Afforestation and landscape development Air pollution control Fire Fighting system
Corporate social responsibility Corporate environmental responsibility Income generation opportunity Improved working conditions Socio-economic measures Disaster management or emergency response plan 1- Water Requirement and Supply System The source of water is bore well. Total water requirement is 164 KLD KLD freshwater is required during operation phase of the project and remaining shall be recycled after treatment in STP. The total water requirement for the project is detailed below. Water Requirement 1 Water use Fresh water Recycled Water (From STP) Total water requirement KLD KLD KLD 2- Treatment Technology Waste Water generation is KLD which is used in green-belt development & flushing requirement. Liquid effluents (Sewage) will be treated in STP of capacity 180KLD. STP facility will be provided. The treated recycled effluent will be used in flushing, landscaping development and wetting of roads, as required.
3- Solid waste The collection and transportation of the solid waste generated during the operational phase of the project will be as follows:- The solid waste generated will be collected and segregated as biodegradable and non recyclable/ non biodegradable waste. Biodegradable waste will be made compost and used in the form of manure in green belt development. Non-biodegradable waste will be stored separately and handed over to the authorized agency for its further disposal. To minimize littering and odors, waste will be stored in well designed containers/bins that will be located at strategic locations to minimize disturbance MT/day of MSW and 40 Kg/day STP sludge will be generated during operation phase. STP sludge is used as manure for green belt development. Estimated Waste Generation for Proposed Project: S.No. Description Kg/capita/day Total Solid waste Generation (Kg/day) 1. Residents (1188 persons) Staff (60 persons) Visitors (120 persons) Total (Say 450 Kg/day) 4- Afforestation and Landscape Development: The implementation of greenbelt development shall be beneficial to the biological environment. Plants are planted in two or more rows depending
upon the availability of the space. Proponent has already planted some trees; more plants may be planted in rows of one or two by the side of all the road in and around the project. The green belt is to develop using such plant species, as are having the following characteristics: Pollution tolerant species Fast growth rate Thick green foliage cover Evergreen Indigenous or which could be easily growned. Ecologically compatible. 5- Air Pollution Control: So far air environment is concerned; it can be subdivided into two categories: Stack Emission Two DG sets of 320 KVA & 225 KVA will be the main sources of air pollution in terms of SO 2 and SPM discharge. Various measures to be adopted by Nilaya Hills/ Heights for reducing its air pollution are listed below: The system will be of latest technology with the capability of having control on Smoke & Noise Pollution to meet out the norms stipulated by the CPCB/UEPPCB. DG sets would be of proper stack height & proper acoustic enclosure.
Fugitive Emission Frequent water spraying would be done in the open area of the group housing to keep the SPM contributed by the traffic movement at a low valley. Planting trees inside the group housing along the roads will act as sink for dust. 6- Fire Fighting Systems A state of the art fire fighting system will be installed within the premises to prevent and contain fire outbreaks. The fire fighting system will consist of fire hydrant system and sprinklers system besides portable extinguishers at specified locations as per the prevailing Fire Norms. The water storage required for the fire reserve will be provided by way of storage tanks with a common suction chamber. The water storage tanks will be based underground within the project site. The group housing will be protected with fire fighting arrangement. A water holding tank for fire hydrant will be provided in the premises. The fire fighting system has been designed by the consultants considering the prevailing standards. Fire-Water Connections Firewater inlet & outlet connections shall be provided to the water storage tanks; External main fire ring and hydrants at desired spacing shall be provided. All flow switches, test valves, drain pipes etc. shall be provided as per guidelines on the sprinkler system; All pump installation and arrangements are in accordance with the guidelines;
12- Corporate- Social Responsibility The social management plan has been designed to take proactive steps and adopt best practices, which are sensitive to the socio-cultural setting of the region. 12- Corporate- Environmental Responsibility Main objectives of environmental policy are as following: Comply with all applicable environmental laws, and other commitments, with the objective of moving beyond compliance to create shareholder and customer value; Take a risk management approach addressing the adverse environmental impacts of our operations-first, prevent pollution, where feasible and economically sustainable, then environmental impacts that cannot be avoided; Utilize natural resources more efficiently; Engage employees towards energy efficient products; Measure and publicly communicate the progress being made towards improving environmental performance and independently verify key performance results; Proponent is committed to responsible waste management and aim to reduce, reuse and recycle waste generated through our premises by: Reviewing and improving our working practices Building effective waste management and awareness into the decision making process. Delivering effective waste management information to all employees. 9- Income generation opportunity During operational phase additional manpower will be required, local manpower would be given preference, although they would be recruited on their own merits. Specific consideration would be given for the employment of locals from neighboring areas.
10. Improved working conditions The project will be provided safe working conditions for the staff employed at the facility. A condition of additional employment addresses issues like minimum wages for the staff. 11. Socio-Economic Measures: It is observed that due to present activities of Nilaya Hills/Heights. The living activeness of the local population by providing them additional opportunities of employment would be enhanced. 12- Disaster Management or Emergency Response Plan Emergency prevention is provided in the project through good design, operation, maintenance and inspection to reduce the probability of occurrence and consequential effect of such eventualities. **********************
