1 Career Path Project Engineer to Project Manager 1 The Career Path standards listed below are designed to help a Project Engineer at Samet Corporation understand what skills, knowledge and experience they should gain while in the Project Engineer role in order to earn promotion to Project Manager The decision to promote will be made by the Group Manager with input from Project Executives, Senior Project Managers, and the Director of Operational Excellence, as and they will use this document as a guide. The bullets under each Evidence Standard has been met contain potential ways to accomplish the standard. They are not intended to be an exhaustive checklist of required activities. The Project Engineer should engage in regular conversations with the Group Manager and sponsoring Project Manager(s) to ensure that they are progressing in their development and to agree on which of the following standards have been achieved. Project Engineer Name: 1 st Fundamental: Plan the Job Preconstruction/Estimating Standard: Demonstrated ability to participate in preconstruction/estimating processes. o Candidate has participated in the design and estimating phase of multiple projects under supervision. (3 or more recommended) 3. o Candidate has attended and observed at least one presentation to a potential client with a member of the development team. 2 Scheduling Standard: Demonstrated ability to utilize scheduling software to produce a project schedule o Candidate has completed Suretrack training or demonstrated a working knowledge of Suretrack and/or MS Project. Training source and date or o Candidate has demonstrated ability to input raw data into scheduling software. o Candidate has demonstrated ability to create a basic schedule that shows understanding of critical path and duration principles. Standard: Ability to participate with a team in developing a comprehensive Project Management Plan (PMP) o Candidate has participated in the PMP process with at least one project team. Standard: Demonstrated general awareness of LEED requirements. o Candidate has used USGBC resources to look up standards for an actual project o Candidate has achieved LEED Green Associate or other green accreditation (this is not a requirement, but if the candidate has achieved accreditation, the standard has been met.) 5 o Candidate has participated in one project (or combination of projects) of sufficient complexity, from grading to completion, in the office, under supervision of a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, demonstrating an understanding of cost control and reporting systems. Project: o Candidate has reviewed drawings and product submittals for each major division of work. 6 supervision of a Superintendent/Senior Superintendent and Project Manager/Senior Project Manager. Project(s): Superintendent(s): Commissioning Project Manager(s): o Candidate has participated in trade partner (subcontractor) meetings. Project: Standard: Demonstrated experience in the commissioning process. o Candidate has participated in commissioning start up and training for one each of a plumbing, mechanical and electrical system. Closeout/Punch List Plumbing Project: Mechanical Project: Electrical Project: Standard: Demonstrated experience in the project closeout process. o Candidate has participated in at least two closeout manuals and observed all aspects of the closeout process. 7 Standard: Demonstrated experience managing warranty processes. o Candidate has participated in at least two warranty walk throughs. o Candidate has followed at least two warranty walk through lists with at least six items to be addressed through to completion with the trade partners. o Candidate has completed Samet s safety orientation. 5 th Fundamental: Make the Job Safe Standard: Demonstrated commitment to Samet safety standards. o Candidate has completed Samet s safety orientation.
