Bible Based Digital Citizenship Digital Literacy Engaged Learning ipad Parent Training
What are we trying to accomplish? Find and analyze current information for instant discussion and debate. Interact with each other while learning and exhibiting Christian digital citizenship through ethical communication and citing of resources. Use digital books and be able to comment and annotate within the text as part of their learning. Analyze and critique online sources for accuracy and relevance. Receive more feedback from each other and the teacher during the writing process. Collect, analyze, and display scientific, statistical, and historical data from a variety of sources. Collaborate with each other and their teachers, as they do research and create presentations. Improve critical thinking and problem solving skills. Model Christian ethical behaviors in their online encounters. Be able to access additional help and enrichment activities both at school and at home. Improve their collaboration skills with each other and with the broader community. Improve their presentation skills using a variety of media.
How this relates to education standards Writing: Production and Distribution of Writing Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. Speaking and Listening: Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations.
Raising Digital Citizens
Common Sense with Biblical Sense
Talking about your digital footprint with Common Sense Media. Facebook and Google combine for a worth of about $300 Billion. How do both companies that offer free services get to be worth billions? As the saying goes, if you re not paying for something, you re the product, not the customer. Companies provide free services online because companies can profit from the data you provide. Companies like Facebook sell your data to third parties, while ones like Google use your data to target ads directly at you. Your digital footprint is everywhere.
Example: The Digital Footprint Students will be able to... learn that they have a digital footprint and that information from it can be searched; copied and passed on; seen by a large, invisible audience, and can be persistent. recognize that people s online information can be helpful or harmful to their reputation and image. consider their own digital footprints and what they want those footprints to be like in the future.

AUP + ahup While they are on campus, we have the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) to help guide and protect our students. NCA wants to partner with parents to help them form their own acceptable Home Use Policy.
Northshore Christian Academy expects its students to use technology in a way that is pleasing to God, both on and off campus. Our Acceptable Use Policy All technology use comes under the school s values and requires students to accept the ethical responsibilities found in all the other areas of NCA school life. The general rules and principles of NCA still apply as a basis for good decision making with regard to technology. It is the student s responsibility to treat the technology and all fellow users with the proper care and respect
First Steps to ahup Your first step is to discuss with your child what is expected in your home and even when they are not at home. The second step is to make decisions on Internet filtering and monitoring.
Mobicip Why Mobicip? Easy to set up and use Simple web-based settings and reports Convenient age-based settings Advanced content filtering Scans every visited site, page and content Doesn't slow down your device Across 3G, 4G, LTE, WiFi networks
OpenDNS: OpenDNS is the Internet parental controls solution that empowers parents to manage Web access across every device that accesses the Internet on your home network. In addition to computers, this includes your kids' Xbox, Playstation, Wii, DS, ipad, and even their iphone. OpenDNS is chosen and trusted by more than 1 in 3 US public schools to keep their kids safe online. A faster and more reliable Internet OpenDNS Basic is free to use for home networks

Insurance Insurance will take the form of a warranty and is mandatory in order to receive an ipad. There is a warranty cost of $50, with a $50 deductible. This warranty DOES NOT cover lost ipads. Willful neglect, to be determined by NCA, will void the warranty.
Our Roll out Plan Phase I - We are beginning the small-scale integration into the classroom along with digital citizenship at school. Phase II - NCA wants to partner with parents to help support digital citizenship at home and provide options to help protect their family technology devices. Phase III - On December 2 nd the ipads will be sent home for the first time to have parents set up an itunes account and download the required apps. There will be some limited times your child will be allowed to take the ipad home until Christmas break. On December 19 th by 3:00 PM all ipads are due back to the school. Phase IV - Starting in January, students will bring the ipads home each night and full integration into the classroom will take place.
How do I get the forms, information, and agreements? How do I get the forms, information, and agreements? By October 25th the forms will be found under the Parent Section -> Parent Resources -> ipad Program
