Wireless RF Detector (Electronic Article Surveillance) Quick Installation and Debugging Guide Model: DYN-DPA-03 Page
Preface Thank you for choosing the electronic article surveillance (hereinafter refer to EAS) of our company! You become our customer is our great honor. In order to make you know about your ele ctronic article surveillance quickly and use it expertly, we make this instruction manual. Pl ease read this manual and all other supplied documents carefully before installation and i nitial use, to avoid any unwanted trouble. Ⅰ. Installation environment: Proved by a great deal of installation practices, the installation environment surrounded affects the electronic article surveillance a lot. So please pay attention to the following items about the environment where you want to install your EAS:.When install the anti-theft antenna inside door frame, please note that the antenna must be installed at a place where is at least 25CM away from the door frame, especially when install inside metal door frame. 2.The installation distance of the anti-theft antenna should be demined according the manufacturer s requirement and the situation of the field. It is very important to have a test before installation to determine the distance. If there is no problem in test, then the distance can be determined. The test should be done according to the labels. Installation Distance for Anti-theft Antenna with Different Tags Soft Tags (4x4cm): 0.9 mts. Mini Hard Tags:.05 mts. 3.Test should be done on the basis of the following: The three green LED indicators (DS, DS2, and DS3) at the upper left of the receiver can used to reflect the interference of the field. The best situation is that all the three LED indicators not on and can detect the tag and give alarm quickly. The ordinary situation is that DS lights slightly, DS2 and DS3 not on, and can detect tag and give alarm. While if DS and DS2 or even DS3 are all on, it indicates that the environment of the field is very bad, and the machine cannot be used here. 4.About debugging Anti-theft antenna has been adjusted well before ex-factory. It is not required to do any adjustment in normal environment, just install it as per tag at a proper the distance. But in most sites, there would be some slight interference. Simply adjust the VR4 potential device to adjust the sensitivity. Rotate clockwise to increase sensitivity, counter-clockwise to decrease the sensitivity. Page 2
5.About test standard It is directional for the anti-theft antenna to detect tags. Generally, if alarm is given immediately when get through the antenna with tag stuck on belly. It indicates that the product is good and it is unnecessary to test it at other directions. There is another direction should be specially noted here. When the tag is on horizontal direction, the anti-theft antenna cannot detect it. This is due to the physical property. Any other brands of anti-theft antenna are the same. Of course, the thief does not know this. What s more, it is hard to keep the tag in horizontal direction. So the horizontal direction can be ignored in practice. 6.About power supply Independent power source must be used for anti-theft antenna. What is independent power source? Independent power source means that the 220V socket supply power to the anti-theft antenna is from the main switch. There must not be any other load in the section between the main switch to the anti-theft antenna. If the anti-theft antenna shares power source with other electric equipment, interference may incur and cause false alarm. 7.Main transmitter and auxiliary transmitter When there are 2 transmitting antennas, you must assign a main transmitter and an auxiliary transmitter. Transmitters are all in main transmitter status at manufactory. Set the jumpers J and J on the transmitter board (can also be DIP switches) at their opposite directions to change to auxiliary status. With 2 transmitters, choose any of them as main transmitter. With 3 transmitters, it is better to choose the middle one as main transmitter, the other 2 as auxiliary transmitters. No matter how many transmitters are connected together, there is only one main transmitter. The rest are all auxiliary transmitters. When there are more than one auxiliary transmitter, they are called tier-one auxiliary transmitter, tier-two auxiliary transmitter, the rest are the like. At most 0 tiers (i.e. 20) of auxiliary transmitters can be connected. Theoretically speaking, they can be divided limitless. But it has been found that signal will be decreased greatly when over 20 auxiliary transmitters are connected. At this time, signal synchronizer is required. 8.About sync cord Sync cord is a kind of two-core shielded wire between transmitters, which is used to generate synchronization signal. Sync cord is required when there are 4 antennas (2 transmitters, 2 receivers) used. Otherwise the anti-theft equipment does not work normally. When anti-theft equipment has 2 or more transmitting antennas, sync cord is required. 9.Connecting and setting of sync cord Step, determine the main transmitter (with no need for setting), and set the jumper (or DIP switch) of auxiliary transmitter correctly. Step 2, wire connection. Connect the sync cord from the terminal () of the main transmitter to the terminal (SYNC IN) of the auxiliary transmitter. If there are more auxiliary transmitters, connect the sync cord from, P4 terminals of tier-one auxiliary transmitter to the terminal of tier-two auxiliary transmitter, the rest are the like. Page 3

200 version transmitter board has a slight changed in main and auxiliary transmitter settings, as shown in pictures below: Main transmitter setting (factory setting) Auxiliary transmitter setting Installation: Upon the EAS equipment arriving at the site, observe the environment of the installation position where you want to install the antenna. Check all stuff (mainly the evident interference source) within the range of 0 meters around the installation position. And then install the equipment and power on for trial run. After the system is connected, please check the wiring to see if any loose or reversed polarities. The system can be powered on only if no problem is found in wire connection. There is another precondition: the electricity line of the system must be supplied with power independently. No other electric equipment is permitted on the same power supply line. In addition, the power supply voltage must be a stable voltage. Otherwise the system may not work normally. After the system is powered on, observe the three green indicators (DS, DS2, and DS3) on the receiver board. There are the following three common situations: All the three indicators (DS, DS2, and DS3) off, or DS flashes and DS2 & DS3 off:. Test the alarm effect of the antenna with tag. If the effect is good, then the environment of the site is good, and equipment does not have any problem. In this case, you can install and secure the equipment. Please separate the aluminum alloy wire guide slot from the base of the equipment with insulated object in installation, to avoid false alarm. 2. If the alarm effect is not good when test with tag, there are probabilities: First: need to adjust the sensitivity of the receiving board. Rotate VR4 clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease. Second: Strong interference signal exists at site, or device in the system has problem. Page 0
If the requirement cannot be met after adjusting sensitivity, then it must be the second probability. Note: we often use method of exclusion to locate EAS system fault (that is, replace main board, power source, etc.). This method makes us find the cause of the fault quickly. System devices include: antenna power supply, antenna mount, and main board support. Since the antenna mount passed strict test and inspection before ex-factory, it is definitely no problem, except damaged during the transportation. For power supply and main board, please check if the connecting plug and jumper cap are loose or off. If no problem, replace the power supply or main board to test. If there are multiple antennas at site, swap the good and bad main boards to determine if the problem exists in site interference or in main board. (Usually, this phenomenon is because the strong interference at site which causes the false alarm or bad effect of the antenna, bad effect is more often. No matter how you perform debugging, the problem cannot be solved. False alarm is given when turn up sensitivity, and not alarm is given at all when turn down sensitivity.) There is another method to judge whether the problem is caused by strong interference. Take a metal plate about square meter and move it at about 30cm away from the receiving antenna at all directions. Observe the receiving antenna. If problem disappeared after the antenna is blocked, we can know that it is the strong interference which causes the antenna cannot work normally. (Note: metal plate blocking method can also used to solve the problem when the strong interference is unable to be removed.) If strong interference is determined, the interference source must be removed before device can work normally. If DS and DS2 are on, it indicates there is strong interference at site or sensitivity of antenna is too high. If DS, DS2, and DS3 all flash irregularly and no response when tested with tag, it indicates it is the problem of transmitting board or power supply. Of course the possibility of receiving board s problem exists. Replace with new board or power source and check if problem is still existed. If yes, then it is the problem of main board. Common Interference Sources:. First of all, the engineering quality must be good. All wires of the entire system must be two-core shielded wires with proper wire diameter size. Wires must be laid in earth wire groove and sealed with a U-shape aluminum alloy mound layer. If wire groove can not be cut and has to be routed with open wire, wires must be covered with a metal pipe. Wires must be shielded well. It should be noted that, the antenna power source must be placed within 3 meters from the antenna, and must not be hung high. 2. Make sure the 220V antenna power supply voltage is stable. If not, add a UPS power or a voltage stabilizer. Page
3. Make sure on other electric equipment is connected on the 220V power supply line for antenna. 4. If there are objects like large sized metal articles, metal gridding rack, electric deposit box, refrigerator, children dolls machines, currency count machine, punch-card machine, electric cooker, etc. around the antenna, interference will be produced. 5. Antenna must not be placed near checkout counter, at least.5 meters away, and the further the distance, the smaller the interference. 6. Metal coil is apt to produce interference to antenna, especially grid lines. Check if there are any grid lines at site is very important. 7. If there is ceiling lamp at site, be sure to check if there is wire coil inside the ceiling lamp. 8. If there are color lamp and/or sound system around the antenna, interference will be produced. 9. For sites using hard tag, be sure not to put the articles with hard tag close to the antenna. 0. Observe if there is other store installed with antenna. If yes, keep a proper distance. System Debugging: Troubleshooting: Ⅰ. Sensitivity adjustment: VR4 potential device; (clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease) Ⅱ. Auto detection mode and manual debugging mode of receiver board: Auto detection mode: JP jumper at &2 position (VR2 potential device is off, disabled) (factory setting) Manual debugging mode: JP jumper at 2&3 position, (VR2 potential device is connected, adjustable) (clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease). Installation distance less than.05 meters: set receiver board at auto status; 2. Installation distance more than.05 meter: set receiver board at manual status; In manual mode, when DS, DS2 and DS3 are all off or all on and without any action when tested with tag, adjust VR2 potential device counter-clockwise. If no action till tune to the maximum, adjust it clockwise, and observe the status of the three indicators (DS, DS2, and DS3) when tuning. Generally, when DS flashes, DS2 and DS3 are off, turn VR4 to adjust sensitivity (clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decrease) to make the antenna in good working condition. Manual mode can be used to solve the problem when the following conditions occur:. Alarm delay when test the antenna with tag; 2. Alarm is given when hold the antenna with hand; 3. Slight false alarm occurs in using antenna (It is recommended to remove the Page 2
interference source); 4. When different models of antenna main board from various manufacturers are equipped, alarm effect is not good; Note: The two modes need to be used flexibly and select the best status in practice. Ⅲ. When there is interference exists and false alarm is caused, but the interference source cannot be found or cannot be removed, try the following methods:. Decrease or increase the sweep frequency width of transmitting board with R4 (clockwise to increase, counter-clockwise to decease), then adjust the sensitivity of receiving board properly. 2. Adjust the receiving board to manual mode. 3. Shutter the receiving antenna from outside with a metal plate. Ⅳ. Alarm delay occurs:. Increase or decrease the center frequency of the transmitting board; 2. Increase or decrease the sweep frequency width of the transmitting board; 3. Adjust the receiving board to manual mode; 4. The quality of used tag is too bad. Ⅴ. Problem happens when work online:. Check the network cable to see if it is in good condition (loose or wrongly connected), and check the main/auxiliary setup switch of transmitting board is set correctly; 2. Exchange the main and auxiliary transmitter; 3. Exchange the network cable s direction and/or position; 4. Adjust transmission power with VR23 (clockwise to decrease, counter-clockwise to increase); 5. Control the online channel installation door distance no more than 90cm, and the wires should be two-core shielded wires no less than 0.5 square; 6. When over 0 transmitters used, synchronizer is recommended. Page 3
