2 S t. C l a i r e R e g i o n a l M e d i c a l C e n t e r St. Claire Foundation, Cardinal Office Products Announce Partnership in Giving Collaboration submitted by Tom Lewis The St. Claire Foundation and Cardinal Office Products have announced a program that will allow area businesses to support quality health care in the region simply by buying office supplies. Through the Partners in Giving Program, 5 percent of a participating company s purchases from Cardinal will go directly to the St. Claire Foundation in that company s name, said Paul Hollan, Cardinal Vice President and Regional Sales Manager. The Foundation was established in 2000 to raise money to support the mission and services of St. Claire Regional Medical Center. With the Partners in Giving Program, office products purchases can now make a difference in your community every day, Hollan said. Your business gets the office products it needs, the St. Claire Foundation gets a new source of funding that it needs, and it costs you nothing extra. Cardinal also plans to donate 5 percent of St. Claire Regional s purchases from the office products company to the St. Claire Foundation. We are so thankful for all of the people, organizations, and businesses who support the St. Claire Foundation, said Tom Lewis, the Foundation s Executive Director. But for Cardinal to go the extra mile and provide others with such a convenient means of support for our mission, at the expense of their own profit margin, speaks volumes about the company s community spirit and pay-it-forward philosophy. Cardinal Office Products is the largest independently owned office products dealer Mark J. Neff, St. Claire Regional President/CEO; Mike Sypolt, Cardinal Territory Sale Manager; Paul Hollan, Cardinal Vice President and Regional Sales Manager and Tom Lewis, St. Claire Foundation Executive Director in Kentucky and has been a supporter of charitable organizations in the state for more than 55 years. For information on how to support the St. Claire Foundation through the Partners in Giving Program, contact Mike Sypolt at (859) or at msypolt@cardinalos. com. St. Claire Regional Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Free Health Screenings and Breast Exams In honor of breast cancer awareness month the St. Claire Regional Women s Imaging Center is hosting an open house and free health screening event Friday, October 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Women are invited to visit the center, located on the first floor of the hospital, and participate in free health screenings, enjoy refreshments and experience the relaxed environment of the dedicated Women s Imaging Center. Women are encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of free health screenings offered during the event. 3 T h u r s d a y, O c t o b e r 1 8, St. Claire Foundation to receive approximately $1.25 million from Lane Estate The St. Claire Foundation today announced what is expected to be the largest gift in its history. The estate of the late Betty Lane of Morehead is giving the Foundation approximately $1.25 million to benefit St. Claire Regional Medical Center (SCR). Disbursement of the gift is pending the estate s required reporting with the Internal Revenue Service. St. Claire Regional had been included as a benefactor in Lane s will since it was drafted in Lane, a retired Morehead State University librarian, died in 2006 at the age of 75. Ms. Lane s generosity is overwhelming, said Mark J. Neff, SCR President/CEO. We view this not as a gift to St. Claire Regional, but as a gift to the thousands of people in our service region who deserve the best possible medical care. Betty thought very fondly of St. Claire, said the Rev. Jack Ellis, who worked with Lane at MSU s Camden-Carroll Library, remained her friend, and visited her as a volunteer chaplain when she was a patient at SCR. We view this not as a gift to St. Claire Regional, but as a gift to the thousands of people in our service region who deserve the best possible medical care. Mark J. Neff, SCR President/CEO Ellis said Lane always spoke highly of the care she received at SCR, and she appreciated her neighbors over the years who worked at the hospital and who would help look after her as she got older. SCR is evaluating how it can best use Lane s gift, Neff said. What a wonderful present as St. Claire Regional prepares to mark our 50th anniversary, Neff said. The St. Claire Foundation was established in 2000 as SCR s fundraising arm. For information on how to make a gift to the Foundation, call (606) , St. Claire Foundation Executive Director Tom Lewis at [email protected], or visit and click on the Online Donations link. CLAIRE REGIONAL OBSERVES NATIONAL MEDICAL STAFF SERVICES AWARENESS WEEK submitted by: Donna Besant The regional referral center, St. Claire Regional Medical Center is observing National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week (November 4-10, 2012). In 1992, President George Bush issued a proclamation designating the first week of November as National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week, to acknowledge and thank medical services professionals (MSPs) for playing an important role in our nation s healthcare system. The American Medical Association-Organized Medical Staff Section also recognizes the medical services profession in a resolution that formally acknowledges the importance and value of medical services professionals to the healthcare organization and its physician members, and recognizes their contribution and dedication in preserving quality patient care. When you visit a hospital, you see the doctors, the nurses, and other medical personnel. What you don t see are the people behind the scenes who make certain the credentials of all practitioners who are caring for you are correct and have been verified. MSPs are experts in provider credentialing and privileging, medical staff organization, accreditation and regulatory compliance, and provider relations in the diverse healthcare industry. They credential and monitor ongoing competence of the physicians and other practitioners who provide patient care services in hospitals, managed care organizations, and other healthcare settings. MSPs are a vital part of the community s healthcare team. They are dedicated to making certain that all patients receive care from practitioners who are properly educated, licensed, and trained in their specialty. For more information about MSPs and the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS), visit 4
