63 2U Accessory Unit For CMC II CMC II Extension Units With the plug & play compatibility system, the CMC accessory unit is simply fitted into the 19"/ 482.6mm section, and voila! It contains two fans and is installed in the uppermost position of a network enclosure. The roof panel of the enclosure must be equipped with vent holes. The unit is fully wired and a CMC is simply integrated into the bottom section. The CMC basic module is not included with the supply of the unit. The unit contains a number of functions, which are listed to the right. Up to 3 extension units may be connected to a CMC. Alarm limits may be pre-set for all temperatures/voltages. 64 Accessories For Sensors/Actuators CMC II ENCLOSURE MONITORING SYSTEM Temperature Sensor Hygro-Thermo Sensor Airflow Monitor/Electrical Contact The economic solution for: Temperature measuring Temperature indication Temperature monitoring Temperature regulation Measuring transformers, one LCD display for indication as well as relays for fan control are made available via the excellent electronic equipment of the CMC II.Two NTC sensors can be connected to one CMC II. The temperature sensor can be fitted anywhere in the network enclosure. The hygro-thermo sensor determines the humidity/temperature and transfers these values into output signals 4 through 20 ma. The sensor is based on 2-wire technology and requires external 24V supply. The CMC II monitors the humidity/temperature, indications in [%] The CMC II has two analog inputs 4 20 ma. An external power pack DK /248 is required in order to operate the sensor. Fan motors only have a limited service life. Storage damage, dirty filter mats or jammed fan blades are promptly detected and reported by the sensor. The sensor is supplied with 24V DC voltage and relays this to the CMC II or extension card DK as an output signal. An external power pack DK / 248 is required in order to operate the sensor. In the event of interference caused by overvoltage, the connected active network components are protected. With the relay message contact, undervoltage and any malfunctions caused by overvoltage can be reported in the network via the CMC II (SNMP trap). A green lamp on the strip indicates that the device is operational. In the CMC II enclosure, the CMC II reports the alarm via an acoustic signal, an LED and a message text. In this way, counteractive action can be initiated immediately. The second protective device is the interference suppressor filter, which protects valuable equipment as a passive component. 65 Smoke Alarm Sensor Smoke Alarm Sensor Access Sensor CMC II Alarm Signal Lamp The smoke alarm sensor is an optical smoke alarm consisting of an internal measuring chamber (with infrared LED and photodiode) and an electronic circuit board. If smoke enters the chamber, an LED light pulse is partially deflected by the smoke particles, causing it to strike the photodiode, which in turn triggers further light pulses. If these light pulses strike the photodiode again, smoke generation is signalled to the CMC II and an alarm is triggered. An external power pack DK /248 is required in order to operate the sensor. Vibration sensors are suitable for all fastened panels in the network enclosure. If possible, they should be fastened to the center of the sidewall or door. If the enclosure is vibrated, the contact inside the sensor closes the circuit and triggers an alarm. The sensitivity of the contact is individually adjustable by means of an adjusting screw which presses onto a leaf spring. The sensor is an economic solution for monitoring vandalism. The high-quality electronic parts of the CMC II transfers vibrations of different intensity into a CMC II alarm. Access sensors monitor doors, sidewalls or windows in the network enclosure. The magnet is secured to the moving part (e.g. sidewall), while the reed contact is fastened to the immobile part (enclosure frame). The permanent magnet holds the reed contact in a closed position. If the door is opened or the sidewall removed, the reed contact drops out and opens the circuit, leading to an alarm in the CMC II. The alarm signal lamp serves as a collective fault signal for all alarms in the CMC II, e.g. overtemperature, fan defect, smoke alarm, etc. The CMC provides a user-friendly menu allowing the operator to select which message will affect the CMC II alarm relay. The alarm signal lamp is activated via the alarm relay. The lamp may be attached to the network enclosure or any other desired position, e.g. in the corridor. 66 Lock Systems CMC II ENCLOSURE MONITORING SYSTEM TS Ergoform-S Comfort Handle With Electromagnetic Locking ± Extra holes for electronic lock (PS/QR) 18 ± Universal Lock Unit In two versions: TS8 comfort handle for all TS8 enclosures and Ergoform-S handle for all QR and PS. The lock unit consists of a Rittal handle system where the handle is electro-magnetically locked. With the door closed and the handle locked home, locking is activated by a solenoid. An access sensor (DK /332) is always required for monitoring the door. The CMC II enables the handle to be pulled out by deactivating the solenoid, thus allowing the door to be opened. Deactivation can be initiated via an access unit such as a smartcard reader, magnetic card reader, coded lock and/ or network management systems. The handle system also contains a handle monitor. The CMC II reports an alarm if the handle is not locked home after closing the door. The pushbutton insert supplied can also be exchanged for security inserts. The handles always require an external 24V DC power pack DK /248. Note: When using the Ergoform-S handle, extra punchings are required. 67 Smart Card Reader/Magnetic Card Reader/Coded Lock The door handle is enabled for authorized persons who have identified themselves with a smart card/magnetic card/code. Smart card readers/magnetic card readers/coded locks are installed above the enclosure handle and can also serve as a central unit for enabling several doors. With network connection, the entire access procedure can also be registered with the CMC II. Note: Smart card readers/magnetic card readers/ coded locks may only be used in conjunction with the CMC II and an electromagnetically latched lock system. 3 cards are supplied with the smart card reader/magnetic card reader. Each card contains a 4-digit code which is different on all 3 cards. All cards are access-enabled. On the coded lock, the code can be entered directly. The authorized codes can be set in the CMC II via RS 232 or Telnet. The set code is transferred to the CMC II and, where applicable, to the network management system via the I 2 C bus. EASY CMC SECURITY SYSTEM Easy CMC Plug-In Power Supply Unit For Easy CMC The new Easy CMC offers cost-effective basic monitoring across the entire band-width of enclosure applications, with its many functions and installation variants. We have the right model to suit every application, be it electronic, industrial, network or server enclosures. The system monitors temperature and offers an open interface for UPS systems, climate control equipment, smoke sensors, etc. via the digital inputs. The system relays the alarm both acoustically, as a text in the LCD display, and visually via an LED in the display. For enclosures with sheet steel doors or perforated doors, safety handles with an optical display can also be used to allow optimum control of the enclosure from the outside. In order to represent alarm messages from the Easy CMC on a data network with SNMP, a link via the CMC II DK is possible. 7 Easy CMCs may be connected to the base unit CMC II. If two extension units DK are used, up to 33 Easy CMCs may be connected. In this respect, the network technology with the standard protocol TCP/IP offers great benefits in terms of alarm forwarding. of the configurations: 1U variant The system may be mounted in all 19"/ 482.6mm sections; in enclosures with a glass door, the status of the monitoring system can be read via the LCD. Top hat rail attachment model The system is suitable for mounting on mounting panels with cross rails TS 35/15. A safety handle with optical display may be used to relay the alarm. IT tower protection model This system is designed for integration into the door frame of the Rittal IT Tower. The upper door frame bracket is simply exchanged for the Easy CMC. There are two models available for enclosure width 22 or 16"/550 or 400mm. The plug-in power supply unit is available in two variants, for an input voltage of 230V AC, 50/60 Hz and for an input voltage of 115V AC, 50/60 Hz. In both variants, the power pack supplies a stabilized output voltage of 24V DC and is ideally tailored to the Easy CMC. A power supply unit is required for each Easy CMC. The gasket, being of a closed cell design, is excellent where very low water absorption is required. Other features of the gasket include: 1. Superior resilience, excellent compression recovery, provides a better seal. 2. Excellent adhesion to many substrates. 3. No seams or joints to leak-continuous bead. 4. Normal operating temperature of polyurethane foamed-in-place gasket is -40 C to +60 C (-40 F to +140 F). 91 Shock And Vibration Technical Information TECHNICAL APPENDIX In many locations, sensitive electric and electronic equipment must often be protected against mechanical influences. This is especially important for equipment that is part of the infrastructure. As the world's largest enclosure manufacturer, Rittal has focused on the protection of electric and electronic equipment in enclosures to provide the best possible security against shock and vibration (such as in earthquakes). Dynamic stress can be divided into: Short-term stress Shock conditions in shelters and machines Earthquakes Long-term stress Stationary operation (machines in vicinity) Transport Intermittent disturbances (when generators start or stop) Vibration can be damaging to both the functioning and the mounting of equipment in enclosures. It is possible to prevent vibration or achieve targeted damping when the inherent frequencies and types of vibration of an enclosure under stress are known. The shock-damping retrofit kit consists of rigid components because stiffening measures provide the best protection against shocks. This flexible solution is the best way to damp vibrations with harmonic or periodic disturbances of approximately 15 Hz and higher. Place shelf over cylinder bolts. Cutouts on shelf sides will fit over notches on cylinders. Slide shelf forward so small part of cutout is over cylinder notch. 5. 95 Climate Control Basics The Need For Climate Control When the expense of electronic and electrical components and the costly implications of a system s down time are considered, it is important that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure that steady and reliable performance of a system continues. This should in almost all circumstances include climate control cooling and/or heating. The Purpose Of Cooling Electronic and electric equipment often generate a great deal of heat during operation. Frequently located in hostile environments, the equipment may also encounter the additional problem of not having safe, clean air available to dissipate unwanted heat. Such adverse conditions affect the performance and the life expectancy of electrical/ electronic system components. Three Basic Cooling Methods When selecting a cooling method there are three types to consider. (1) Passive Ventilation - If there is only a minimal heat gain in your circumstance and the ambient air is relatively cool and clean, then the use of louvers or grilles with filters can be effective. This method, however, usually provides less cooling effect than is necessary with today s components. The temperature rise within a sealed enclosure is seen in Figure 2. (2) Forced Convection Air Cooling - If the installation will be in a clean, non-hazardous environment with an acceptable ambient (outside the enclosure) temperature range, a simple forced-air cooling system utilizing outside air is usually adequate. Combined with an air filter, such devices generally meet the heat removal needs of typical electronic equipment and many electrical applications (Fig. 1). Examples of forced convection air cooling are filter fans, pagoda roof fans, fan trays, and blowers of various types. The Ambient Air Should Be Filtered Before It Enters The Cabinet. (3) Closed-Loop Cooling - In harsh environments involving high temperatures, wash-down requirements, heavy particulate matter or the presence of chemicals capable of damaging components (NEMA 4 or 12 environments), ambient air must be kept out of the enclosure. Closed-loop cooling consists of two separate circulation systems. One system, sealed against the ambient air, cools and recirculates the clean cool air throughout the enclosure. The second system uses ambient air or water to remove and discharge the heat. Examples of closed-loop cooling equipment employed with electronics and process controls are heat exchangers and air conditioners. Blowers are used in higher static pressure applications (when internal equipment is densely packed), and are at maximum efficiency when operating near their peak static pressure. Advanced Thermal Modeling (4) Rittal also offers, on a fee basis, advanced thermal modeling using state-of-the-art CFD (computerized fluid dynamics) software. Single enclosure, freestanding A = 1.8 x H x (W + D) x W x D 2. Single enclosure, against a wall A = 1.4 x W x (H + D) x D x H 3. First/last enclosure of a suite A = 1.4 x D x (H + W) x W x H 4. First/last against a wall A = 1.4 x H x (W + D) x W x D 5. Enclosure within a suite A = 1.8 x W x H x W x D + D x H 6. Enclosure within suite/wall A = 1.4 x W x (H + D) + D x H 7. Enclosure within suite/wall/roof A = 1.4 x W x H x W x D + D x H Example Of Air Conditioning Sizing: PS 4808 freestanding (2 x.8 x.8) 2000 x 800 x 800mm = 2 x.8 x.8m A = 1.8 x 2 x (1.6) x.8 x.8 (A= 6.6) Ambient = 95 F/35 C Required internal = 88 F/31 C Heat transfer coefficient = 5.5 Heat loss = 650 watts/2210 BTU Required cooling = A x T x k + Qv (heat loss) 6.6 x 4 x = 795 watts/273 BTU Locate the air conditioner in the Rittal catalog that would best fit this application, confirm with performance diagram.
