1 In line with QSAS CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) program, Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) is pleased to present in collaboration with Foster and Partners, Hoare Lea, Thornton Tomasetti & Arup a SEMINAR on: Sustainable Stadium Designs & Q-SAS Approach. Date: Location: Duration: Saturday 2 nd June Qatar national convention centre 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Seminar Overview: As Part of the QSAS CPD program, Foster and Partners, Hoare Lea, Thornton Tomasetti and Arup have been invited by GORD Institute(Gulf Organisation for Research and Development) to present their perspective on Sustainable Stadium Designs and the Integration of QSAS Sports Introduction The development of stadia is about much more than the pitch and the seating around it. It s about Master Planning, to ensure the Stadium, Fan Zone and Associated Transport links offer value to the community long after the World Cup Finals are over. In the case of Qatar 2022, it s maintaining a legacy value for African Nations, with whom Qatar has offered to share the knowledge, technology and materials used. For the fans, it s about creating an experience, which starts as you leave for the stadium and resonates for months, years or decades later. To quote Bill Shankley, the famous Liverpool Manager Football is not about life and death, it s much more important than that. Qatar 2022 is intertwined with the 2030 plan and represents a significant milestone in the development of the infrastructure and through the encouragement of sport, health of the nation. The World Cup Finals provide

2 a showcase, where Qatar is able to demonstrate its renowned hospitality and culture globally. As the World Cup Finals finish, elements of the stadia and associated infrastructure will be demounted and given to African Nations to encourage future generations. Against this background, the Qatar 2022 Committee elected to make a visionary commitment, to make the World Cup Finals Carbon Neutral and to be developed in accordance with QSAS Sports. As Architects, Engineers and Contractors, this provides a challenge that we must meet. Aim The CEU will be structured around a half day session (4 hours) and the aim of the session will be to: Listen to Professionals with Stadia Design experience across the World and in particular the Middle East. Raise awareness of all elements of Stadia Design from Master Planning to the Operation of the Stadium. Help delegates to fully understand the operation of the Stadia and Factors which need to be taken into account, during design and construction. Provide an understanding of the requirements of QSAS Sports. Show case studies of Stadia Projects across the region. Ing. (FH), MSc (Urban Design), Architect ARB Associate Partner Jürgen Hنpp s career began in 1992 when he started work as a draftsman in an architect s firm. He went on to study architecture at the University of Applied Science in Würzburg, Germany, graduating in 2004 with distinction. His final year project on a new urban development in Beijing, China, was marked as outstanding. Continuing with his studies, he gained a Masters of Science in Urban Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture in His thesis on nomads was marked as outstanding. During his studies he won the German wide student competition for The school of the future. Prior to joining Foster + Partners he worked at several practices in Germany including 4 years as a draftsman at Baur Consult, 6 years at B+O Concept during and after his studies, and periods with both Schirmer Architekten & Stadtplaner and Schmidt- Schicketanz and Partners. During this time he was involved in numerous projects, notably the design of a residential development largely in compliance with Passivehaus standards; several highly ranked masterplan competitions and a new high school building for which he led the design. He joined Foster + Partners in January 2007 as a member of the Masdar Development competition team and worked on the initial design concept of this emerging global clean technology cluster located in what aims to be one of the world s most sustainable urban masterplans powered by renewable energy. He gained a leading position within the design team for the concept master plan which was finalised in February Afterwards he joined the Masdar Institute 1A design team in

5 charge of the residential buildings as well as the sustainability strategy. In July 2008 he relocated to the Masdar site office in Abu Dhabi, where he is currently working on the detailed master plan, as well as its implementation. He has also been involved in several other Foster + Partners projects including the Zayed Museum in Abu Dhabi; the Louise Wilgrass Foundation School for orphans in Phuket, Thailand; the Bilbao Metro 3 Line extension in Spain and the YTL headquarters in Malaysia. He was promoted to an associate in 2008 and to an associate partner in Cara Tissandier Associate MEng (Hons) MEI PQP Cara has over 10 years experience in the environmental design of buildings, predominantly across mixed-use, commercial and residential market sectors. She has experience in preparing energy and sustainability planning strategies that deliver cost effective and practical building/development solutions. She believes that sustainable design is best achieved through early involvement within the design process and appointment of a sustainability champion to ensure project targets are met from concept to operation. Cara lives in the UAE and is responsible for our Sustainability offering in the MENA region. Kyle E. Krall, P.E. Senior Principal Mr. Kyle Krall is a Senior Principal of Thornton Tomasetti, a leading, international structural engineering design consultancy with 24 global offices and a staff of more than 600 people. He is the manager of Thornton Tomasetti s Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices, and has been involved in the structural engineering of several sports projects in the region. He brings to the table more than 25 years of experience in engineering and four years of regional expertise, which enables him to offer clients cutting-edge solutions that are tailored to the unique conditions of the Middle East. As a project manager, Mr. Krall is involved in all aspects of a project ranging from concept design to its execution. His sports facility experience includes the structural design of a bespoke 25,000-seat stadium, slated to be a hallmark structure for a confidential client in the Middle East; the structural design and construction administration of the 42,000-seat, 67-suite baseball stadium for the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park; the structural design of the renovation and expansion of an existing stadium built in 1934 to accommodate an additional12,282 seats, 68 suites and three concourse levels at the Beaver Stadium at Penn State University; and the structural engineering review of a 100,000-seat football stadium for a design-build contractor in Abu Dhabi. Mr. Krall holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from Penn State University, Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Columbia University, New York. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of New York and a member of the Society of Engineers in the United Arab Emirates. His recent awards for leadership and design excellence include the Leonhard Center World-

6 Class Engineer Alumni Award by Penn State College of Engineering, in In addition, Mr. Krall is actively involved in the professional development of young architects and engineers through his commitment to academia. He was an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Building Technologies at Columbia University from 1997 through 2005 and was appointed to the Industry Advisory Board of the Civil Engineering department of Abu Dhabi University in Profession Architect Current Position Associate Qualification BA (Hons) Architecture PG Diploma in Humane Architecture PG Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture Chris is an Architect who specializes in the planning, design and delivery of major sporting projects throughout the world. His experience in the strategic development of specialist and multiuse venues in Europe, the Middle East and Asia has resulted in Chris becoming a leading member of Arup s specialist Sports Venue Design team. Chris's expertise in major sports venue planning and design is bred from extensive worldwide experience in the field and a passion for sport. Singapore Sports Hub, Singapore ( Present) Chris has worked on the multi-sport National Stadium, the Aquatic Centre and the Multi-Purpose Indoor Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub project during various stages and is currently the Sport Venue Design delivery lead during the Detailed Design phase engaged by the PPP contractor. King Abdullah Sports City, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2010) Chris took a review role during the development of the master plan and strategic venue briefing document preparation for this project. New National Stadium Abu Dhabi, UAE ( ) Chris was the project architect and key client contact on this 65,000 seat project beginning during the architectural competition until completion of the tender documentation. Khalifa Sports Hub, Abu Dhabi, UAE (2008) Chris worked closely with the client team and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to develop a commercially viable strategic master plan for a new Sports City which is to surround the New National Stadium. London 2012 Olympic Stadium Brief, UK (2007) Chris worked with the specialist Sports Venue Design team developing the main stadium brief together with LOCOG and the ODA. Chicago 2016 Olympic Bid, USA (2007) Chris worked with the local master planning team to advise on Sports Venue and Olympic Infrastructure during the Bid Phase. Valencia Club de Futbal, Spain ( ) Chris took the role of the project architect responsible for the integration of specialist sports venue design together with local partner architect for this 75,000 city centre football / athletics stadium.
