Upon completion of the program, HVACR technicians often specialize in either installation or maintenance and repair of residential and light commercial HVACR systems. EPA and ICE Certification exams included. Class size limited to 15 students. Tuition: $7775 I M-TH 6pm - 10pm I 8/24/15-6/2/16 The HVAC/R course offered at Portage Lakes Career Center offers the EPA 608 Certification commonly referred to as the CFC (ChloroFluoroCarbon) Certification. The cost of this certification exam is included within Portage Lakes Career Center s tuition and consists of four main web-based assessments, each offered here at Portage Lakes Career Center. The tests consist of four portions each measuring and assessing different knowledge components. Three separate certifications are offered with the successful completion of three portions of the test (Type I, II, and III Certifications) but students who pass all three certification tests receive the CFC Universal Certification (which is the HVAC/R Program goal). The test layout includes the following: Part I: This section of the assessment focuses on core knowledge including laws, information about ozone depletion and other industry concerns, and specific dates of importance. Part II - Passage of this portion grants Type I Certification This section of the assessment focuses on small appliances and certifies that the holder can work on small appliances utilizing five pounds or less of refrigerant. Part III-Passage of this portion grants Type II Certification This section of the assessment focuses on and, when passed, allows the holder to work on medium, high, and very high-pressure appliances including outdoor and rooftop units. Part IV-Passage of this portion grants Type III Certification This section of the assessment deals with low-pressure appliances and, when passed, certifies that the holder can work on low-pressure appliances including chillers. The Automotive Service Technician Program covers brakes, steering and suspension, drive trains, engine repair and performance, electrical and computers, and heating & air conditioning. Students must provide a copy of a valid driver s license and proof of insurance. The cost of two certification exams is included in tuition. Class size limited to 15 students. Tuition: $8075 I M -TH 6pm - 10pm I 8/24/15/ - 6/2/16 The Automotive Service Technician Program at Portage Lakes Career Center offers students the opportunity to test for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications offered off-site at Pearson Vue Testing Center ( 231 Springside Dr, Akron, OH 44333). To become ASE certified, students must pass an ASE test and have full-time, hands-on work experience (or a combination of formal training and experience). The amount of work experience required can vary by test. To substitute relevant formal training for work experience, a student will attach an official transcript or certificate of completion to his/her testing application. In most cases, ASE will credit one month of work experience for every two months of full-time training. Students in the Automotive Service Technician Program are offered, within the price of their tuition, the opportunity to take two ASE exams in the Automobile and Light Truck Certification series (A1 through A8; please note, however, that the test goes to A9 but Portage Lakes Career Center Automotive Service Technician Program does not teach any of the coursework covered in the A9 test).
