1 Supplemental Notice Regarding Changes to Occupational Coding The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development uses the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system to define occupations requested from employers on their quarterly unemployment insurance contribution report. Every ten years, revisions are made to address new and evolving occupations and to update definitions for outdated occupations. As a result of the most recent review of the SOC system, some occupational codes were deleted, some were revised (to describe an occupation more accurately), and other codes were added for new/emerging occupations. The following pages identify occupational codes that were affected by the 2010 revisions. A majority of the codes did not change during the update, however, if codes you use are on the list of those affected by the revision; please refer to the manual entitled Alaska Occupational Coding Manual to find the most accurate updated version of the occupation. This manual is located at: For questions regarding these changes or on occupational coding in general, please contact our staff at (toll-free in Alaska) or (collect outside Alaska). AFFECTED OCCUPATIONS The following occupations were affected by the 2010 SOC code revision. NOTES: 2010 occupations with two asterisks (**) were combined into one from occupations with one asterisk (*) were broken up into several more descript occupations for Please refer to the Alaska Occupational Coding Manual to evaluate occupation definitions.
