2 Dear Friends, Our mission is to partner with families to help children with special health care needs live a great life. As ChildServe President and CEO for over 20 years, I can say that no one can achieve the mission of ChildServe alone; it takes a team of people working together. Growing up I remember watching my dad work as a carpenter. I can still see him now skillfully cutting, pieces of furniture, cabinetry or a whole house. As I got older, he taught me the ins and outs of carpentry that have carried over into my adulthood. What I remember and cherish the most is his ability to partner with others. His relationship with clients would last for years because he was honest, hardworking and had fantastic carpentry skills. His clients loved what he built. Observing his partnerships with those around him for many years, I m amazed and proud to see ChildServe s partnership everyday with As we complete our new 60,000 square foot building addition at the ChildServe Center in Johnston and continue to grow and expand services, I thank you for supporting our work at ChildServe. Your support will enable us to continue partnering with more families and provide quality care to children with special health care needs. I encourage you to read the stories of Cecilia, Jack, and Maria. Their stories are just a few examples of the many children who inspire me every single that show the many accomplishments through the year. It s been a great year at ChildServe! Living Specialty Clinics Therapy Transitional Care cecilia When Cecilia was born prematurely at 28 weeks, her brain didn t receive oxygen for several minutes. Consequently, she suffered an anoxic brain injury, and required significant medical equipment and care on a daily basis. Because of her complex needs, Cecilia s parents didn t have time to enjoy important parentchild activities like playing and snuggling. After spending time on ChildServe s Transitional Care Unit and in Day Health, Cecilia now is able to enjoy her days at home thanks to ChildServe Homecare. She receives skilled nursing and professional speech, occupational, and physical therapy while her parents are at work or class during the day. Cecilia s parents are so thankful that ChildServe takes care of her medical needs so they can focus on being Cecilia s parents. They now have plenty of time for quality family bonding! When Jack was diagnosed with autism and epilepsy, his parents started looking for the best care available, and they found it at ChildServe. Jack currently receives ChildServe s physiatry services provided by Fred Klingbeil, MD, and physical, occupational and speech therapy at the ChildServe Center Johnston. His parents are very grateful that all of Jack s services are in one convenient location, and that staff members at ChildServe have opened their arms to welcome them in like a family! Seeing her today, you would never know that she was born deaf. Ignoring early predictions that Maria would never speak, her parents enrolled her in speech therapy at ChildServe and later pursued cochlear implants to help her hear. In addition to teaching her how to speak, Maria s parents wanted her to be able to better integrate into social situations and the broader community. Thanks to one-on-one support from her ChildServe Skill Development Assistant, along with other services at ChildServe, Maria has done just that. Skill building activities have helped her achieve many personal goals including improved communication and life skills. Fifteen-year-old Maria is growing every day in her confidence and independence, and that s what Supported Community Living is all about!

6 CHILDSERVE FOUNDATION CHILDSERVE CAPITAL Capital dollars are raised as part of an extensive fundraising effort over a specific period of time. These funds are used to build buildings, undertake major expansions, or underwrite significant equipment expenditures. CHILDSERVE FUND Gifts to the ChildServe Fund allow us to provide life-enhancing opportunities so that children have access to programs and services that enable them to reach their full potential. Some of the items made possible by generous donors include new or retrofitted wheelchairs, specialized equipment, transportation vehicles, and Camp ChildServe scholarships. CHILDSERVE ENDOWMENT The endowment allows donors to make contributions that give forever. Endowment gifts impact children s lives by creating a permanent source of financial support that focuses on the care children receive, equipment they need, and training for staff.
