1 Annual Report 2013/2014 Mission Statement The Catholic Tuition Support Organization promotes Catholic education by providing tuition assistance to K-12 students in Catholic schools using funds generated by the Arizona State tax credit programs. Your support has helped us impact the lives of many children with improved educational opportunities. The Arizona s Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO) is grateful for your contribution that allows us to award need-based scholarships. Catholic education is surviving and expanding because of the generosity we receive from individuals who have faith in our schools. Our Catholic schools provide quality education with high academic standards that families want in order to prepare their child for life-long success. We have a child with special needs so without the tuition assistance we would not be able to provide the therapies or the education they need. 3 Catholic School Facts Our schools increased enrollment by 7% in the 2014/2015 school year. Catholic schools have always served families from all social-economic income levels. 63% of the students in our Catholic schools received financial aid in the 2013/2014 school year. Our schools are accredited and in good standing. We are blessed to have the Tax Credit program in Arizona that helps make Catholic education affordable to more families who desire and deserve the option of enrolling in one of our Catholic schools. With that blessing comes the tremendous responsibility of our schools to provide the best possible education infused with the message of God s love, which children especially need, in order to thrive. Sheri Dahl, New Catholic School Superintendent Catholic Education Facts We are. Catholic School Week at the Capitol Arizona is a National leader in empowering families seeking educational choices. Catholic Schools rally together at the State Capitol to show their appreciation. Communities of Faith Children learn to LIVE their faith, and are active and contributing members of the community. Communities of Knowledge Nearly 100% of our high school seniors graduate and go on to college. Students scored above average in ACT and AP placement exams and scored higher than the national average in math and reading. Communities in Service Our students participate in thousands of hours of community service annually for organizations such as: St. Vincent de Paul, Diamond s Children Hospital, the Humane Society, local nursing homes, shelters for the homeless and community centers. 4 Scholarship Program Facts for 2013/2014 Scholarships are based on verified financial need to students in K-12 Scholarships are awarded regardless of race, creed, gender, and ethnicity, etc. 89% of the scholarships are awarded to low-income children and 78% of scholarships represent a diversity of cultures: Hispanic, Native Americans, Asian, African American, and Multi-Racial students. CTSO conducts an annual audit and publishes an annual report. Scholarships Awarded: $7,812,067 Scholarships Reserved for identified students in 2013/2014: $ 336,781 Total number of Scholarships Awarded: 4,292 CTSO Annual Audit is conducted by HBL CPAs, PC. 89% Low-Income 11% Other Financial Need Disabled/Displaced Scholarship Program CTSO received $66,500 of Disabled/Displaced Corporate Income Tax Credit revenue. It allocated the funds for distribution in the 2014/2015 school year but funded three emergency scholarships in the 2013/2014 school year. He is a strong supporter of the University of Arizona and K-12 education. As a strong community leader his emphases is to help mold our future leaders at a young age. He believes that we must push, promote, and support all forms of education. Community leaders come together to celebrate academic achievements, spiritual growth through strong moral values and community service engendered by the schools in Diocese of Tucson. Brian Mueller, President, and CEO of Grand Canyon University delivered the keynote address. Arizona s Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO) has been blessed with a significant corporate gift from CenturyLink. Gary Gunther, Vice President and General Manager for Northern and Southern Arizona for CenturyLink, presented a $200,000 corporate check to CTSO Executive Director, Gracie Quiroz, and the Most Reverend Gerald Kicanas, D. D., Bishop of Tucson. Gunther stated that among the community issues in which CenturyLink walks the talk, education is number one. Our support of CTSO stems from our desire to partner with organizations that are already in the classroom doing the important work of providing education to our community. CTSO s Goal working hard to make sure every child gets the choice of a Catholic education.
