3 1 Release Contents About This Release CTERA Portal 4.0GA is a general availability version, which includes the following highlights: Performance and scalability improvements Storage tiering Catalog nodes Enhanced permissions in team portals Usability enhancements Team Portal Enhancements Project Management Permissions and Guest Users It is now possible to define which groups of users have permission to create and/or manage collaboration projects. 4 1 Release Contents A new user group, "Guests", is automatically defined in all new team portals. By default, members of this group do not have permission to create and manage projects, and they cannot view other users or groups in the team portal. Quick Access Projects It is now possible to mark a collaboration project as "Quick Access". Quick access projects appear directly under the cloud drive's root folder, instead of appearing under the projects folder. Only administrators can mark a project as "Quick Access". Storage Tiering CTERA Portal now supports storage tiering at the virtual-portal level. Storage tiering enables you to allocate different tiers of storage to each virtual portal. For example, portal A can be assigned a dedicated storage node that stores two copies of the data, and portal B can be assigned a dedicated storage node that stores three copies of the data. Storage tiering is enabled during storage node creation, by selecting the Dedicated to Portal checkbox and selecting a specific virtual portal. The storage node will be reserved for the exclusive use of the selected virtual portal. Cloud Drive Logging 4 CTERA Portal 4.0 Release Notes

5 Release Contents 1 It is now possible to log all reads and writes to the cloud drive for auditing purposes. To enable this level of logging, in the Logs & Alerts > Log Settings page, set the Cloud Drive Logging field to Reads and Writes. Catalog Nodes CTERA Portal versions prior to 4.0EA supported a single metadata database (or "catalog"). CTERA Portal 4.0 supports catalog nodes, which are a way of breaking up the CTERA Portal's metadata database into multiple database servers for improved scalability. Databases that store metadata are called catalog nodes. Upon creation, each virtual portal is associated with a single catalog node. To configure a CTERA Portal server to act as a catalog node, in the Server Manager, select the Catalog Node checkbox. Portal SSO API CTERA Portal 4.0 Release Notes 5

6 1 Release Contents The new CTERA Portal Single Sign On API enables easy integration of CTERA Portal with an existing intranet or customer service website. To use the new API, sign in as an administrator with "Super User" permissions, using the CTERA Portal REST API, (as documented in the CTERA Portal API Developer Guide). Then request a session token. Simplified Server Setup The CTERA Portal Setup Wizard has been improved for easier initial setup of new CTERA Portal servers. Specifically, the Setup Wizard now allows setting the server operation mode (master / secondary) and configuring replication directly from the Web-based interface. Improved System Reports The "Plans Report" is now called the "Plans by Portal Report", and the "Add-Ons Report" is now called the "Add-Ons by Portal Report". Furthermore, two new reports are available n the Global Administration View: the "Plans Report" for global plans, and the "Add Ons Report" for global add-ons. Server Monitor The Server Manager's Activity tab has been enhanced to display additional fields: Last Snapshot Time Tomcat Uptime A new chart displaying the number of block verifications per second Suspended Virtual Portals Individual virtual portals can be disabled, by setting the Status field to Disabled in the Virtual Portal Manager. When disabling a virtual portal, the following things happen: 1. Users cannot log in to the portal, and devices cannot connect. 2. Reports and notifications are not sent from the portal. 3. User self-registration is disabled. Note: Global administrators can still connect to disabled portals via the Global Administration View. 6 CTERA Portal 4.0 Release Notes

7 Release Contents 1 SMTP Test Button It is now possible to validate the SMTP mail server settings, by clicking Test in the Settings > Mail Server page, to send a test . Backup/Restore Extended File Permissions CTERA Portal supports the backup and restore of extended file permissions (ACLs) from CTERA Agents for Linux and Windows, as well as from CTERA appliances. Performance Improvements CTERA Portal 4.0EA includes performance and scalability improvements in the areas of seeding, cloud backup, cloud drive read/write, and synchronization protocols. 8 1 Release Contents CTERA Portal 4.0EA allows importing users from a text file in CSV (comma-separated values) format. Both end users and administrators can be imported. The CSV file's fields must be in the following order: 1. Username 2. First name 3. Last name 4. address 5. Company (Optional) 6. Password 7. Role 8. Plan (Optional) 9. Numeric UID (Optional) 10. 9 Release Contents 1 Virtual portal administrators can now be given permission to change their portal's subscription plan, through their Administration Control Panel. To enable this feature, in the Plan Details Wizard's Plan Details page, select the Allow users to join this plan checkbox. 11 Release Contents 1 CTERA Portal now includes an easy-to-use user interface for importing seeding hard drives from a local NFS server.
