1 ! Press Release The nominees for the Austrian Film Award 2012 have been selected The Austrian Film Academy announced the nominees for the Austrian Film Award On January 27, 2012, the Austrian Film Award will be awarded in 13 categories on the premises of the Rosenhügel Film Studios, Vienna. The Award Sculpture has been designed by VALIE EXPORT. Vienna, Dec 19, 2011 Today the Austrian Film Academy, which is presided by Barbara Albert and Karl Markovics, announced the 13 x 3 nominees for the Austrian Film Award 2012 in the frame of a press conference at the Vienna Ring Tower. The award ceremony will take place in the Filmstadt Wien/ Rosenhügel Studios on January 27, Eligible for the awards will be feature-length Austrian films which started showing in the cinemas between October 2010 and November VALIE EXPORT, one of Austria s most exceptional artists, was won over to design the Award Sculpture. The new impetus and the international attention Austrian filmmaking has experienced over the past 10 years cannot be overlooked. This is expressed by award-winning Austrian films which have won the Silver Lion, the Golden Palm or the Academy Award, Josef Aichholzer, representative of the Austrian Film Academy, remarks. He is pleased about the commitment of policy-makers to support Austrian filmmaking. In their statements, Austrian Federal Ministers Claudia Schmied and Reinhold Mitterlehner, Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, Vienna City Councillor for Culture and Science, and Brigitte Jank, President of WKO Vienna, emphasized the vital importance of commitment for Austrian film, its funding, and the Austrian Film Award. 39 films have been nominated 25 thereof being feature films, and 14 documentaries. More than 200 Academy members voted on the nominees. VALIE EXPORT has designed the Award Sculpture, which is 37 cm high and weighs 3.3 kg, as a spiral-shaped upwardly striving staircase. The succession of the steps of a staircase as movement into space the succession of frames as a motion picture, a movement into time. (Stella Rollig). The sculpture was created as aluminum casting using the lost wax technique on a concrete base. Each and every copy of the sculpture is a unique work of art.!
