5 How dbrain works The dbrain offering has two main components: 1. The dbrain DS-System is located in dbrain s data center and stores data received from various DS-Clients. Data within DS-System is always encrypted. 2. The dbrain DS-Client is located at customers sites and remote locations. It collects data from the customers physical and virtual machines and transmits it to the DS-System, over the WAN. The DS-Client performs deduplication, compression and encryption before transmitting the data to the DS-System. The DS-Client license is free of charge and customers may install as many as required. It may run on a physical or virtual machine. 4
