2 ServaStor Overview ServaStor is an automated, offsite backup and disaster recovery service that securely protects your business-critical data easily and cost-effectively. ServaStor substantially reduces your capital investment and eliminates on-going backup tasks. It is totally automated on the client side and we look after any remaining administrative responsibilities, so the onus of protecting your business critical backup is left to our professionally trained engineers. We combine an onsite vault with two offsite vaults. Our ready to restore onsite vault offers LAN speed backup and restore to all your networked machines, whilst our offsite secure vault stores a real-time copy of your data that is ready to restore when you need it. Our second offsite vault, located in SE England, replicates your data yet again that means three, secure copies of your data are stored in separate locations, providing industry leading protection against your data being destroyed, overwritten or lost. Additionally, your data is encrypted to military standards in all vaults and during transfer, meaning your data is incredibly well protected too. Our professionally accredited engineers will conduct all remote restores at brick, file and directory level. If your current hardware becomes unusable, our engineers can restore your system state from your off-site vault to new hardware (hardware & operating system required). Replacement equipment can be installed at your premises or at a temporary location. Servatech can also host your hardware, enabling your staff to work from home (terminal services access required). 2

Tape backup has a high failure rate, mainly based around the unreliability of magnetic media and its people-reliant processes. Monthly test restores are included in the ServaStor package, which you can use without notice, for that extra peace of mind. Industry leading return to operation levels With ServaStor, your business can recover from a disaster in industry leading timescales, either at your premises or any temporary location in the UK. Your data will be just as you had left it from as close as an hour before the disaster. Tape backup restore times can mean your business is out of action for days, and could even be unrecoverable. Your data is securely stored offsite Data can be immediately replicated to Servatech s encrypted data centre, which is additionally replicated to a secure data centre in SE England for added resilience. Your data is incredibly well protected against being destroyed, written over or lost, and is even protected from a regional scale disaster. Encrypted with military level encryption, at every stage Your data is encrypted from the initial backup to the off-site vaults, during transport and in storage. It s compliant with Data protection laws and you choose who has the access key. Tape backup is not encrypted, not secure, is susceptible to theft and, without the right storage procedures, is not data protection compliant. 3

Remote office & user backup Include additional offices and any remote users in your central backup. ServaStor seamlessly includes them, enabling employees on the road and at all of your businesses locations to be have the data protection they need. Multi-Platform & Virtualisation support ServaStor is agentless and so supports a huge range of operating systems and virtualised platforms (listed at the end of this document). There is no need to have multiple backup solutions. Anti-corruption protection Autonomic healing constantly scans your backup and highlights any damaged files, either fixing them automatically or alerting Servatech engineers, ensuring your data is always complete and ready to restore. Fully managed service ServaStor is monitored by our specialist IT engineers. They actively check the status of your backup, remedy any problems and carry out monthly test restores on your data. You can request these test restores at any time, on any data and without notice, giving you measurable assurance that your data will be accessible when you need it. Data Protection ServaStor gives you the power to ensure your backup is compliant with data protection laws. As well as your data being under military level encryption, we can give you statistical overviews of your backed up data. If your company is required/ has a policy to delete data after ten years, ServaStor can automatically remove it. Servatech can produce regular statistics on your backed up data and your account manager can assist in 6-monthly data reviews if appropriate. ServaStor not only protects your data, it helps you manage it. Designed with server expansion and Virtualisation in mind ServaStor s agentless architecture is cost efficient and conserves your servers resources. With other backup & DR solutions, one agent per server or VM can be very expensive in licensing. In a virtualised environment, they can also waste a large amount of processing power and RAM. No agent means no extra licensing & no wasted resources, giving you the freedom to create virtual (or physical) machines and include them in your backup automatically. Faster backup ServaStor s disk-to-disk backup is much faster than other media, enabling you to backup more in your finite backup window. The powerful management console also gives the option to bandwidth throttle and define specific time windows - your backup and offsite transfer can be scheduled at times and at speeds that are best for your business. 4

5 how it works Monitors all file changes Your on-site ServaStor vault monitors your servers, storage and end-user machines through operating system API s (no need to install any agents). It automatically collects all file changes and incrementally adds them to your secure local backup in real-time, meaning you can restore either current or previous versions of files. Secure transfer Your data is replicated to Servatech s secure data centre through encrypted transfer over the internet. It s encrypted at source, during transfer and in our off-site vaults to the FIPS standard, one of the most advanced standards available today. You decide who has the release code; Servatech employees do not have access to your data unless you grant it them. Transfers can be real-time, scheduled during low traffic hours, and even be bandwidth throttled so not to affect your other business activities. Secure offsite Storage x2 Your data is stored in Servatech s own secure data facility in West Yorkshire, with 24 hour security and two high capacity connections that take separate routes to the internet. We also backup your backup to our separate facility in the south east of England, all under the same strict security protocols. Our incredibly resilient offsite storage system can deal with even a regional scale disaster, and gives utmost confidence that your data will never be destroyed. You choose how much you store and how long it s stored for. We ll even provide data destruction certificates for data protection compliance. Client-side storage and de-duplication Each file is only stored once in your local backup. If multiple users store multiple copies of the same file, ServaStor intelligently de-duplicates what it needs to store, referencing that file to several locations. Even if users make edits, ServaStor will only store the delta changes rather than the whole file, yet again reducing the size of your backup. Additional Sites & remote user backup Remote sites operate just like your main site, with their own ServaStor vault based onsite for local monitoring, storage and LAN speed restores. Users that are often away from the office install a small client on their computer which automatically backs up data directly to the offsite vaults whenever they are connected to the internet. 5

6 how it works Restore Servatech engineers will make restores of files and directories back to your systems, either into recovery folders or their original locations, all within Service Level Agreements. On first instance, your onsite ServaStor vault is used for LAN speed recovery but off-site vaults are used when the situation demands. In comparison to other products, ServaStor really stands out with its industry leading return to operation timescales and recovery point objectives. Disaster Recovery If your current hardware becomes unusable, our engineers can restore your system state from your off-site vault to new hardware (hardware & operating system required). We can install replacement hardware at your site or at any recovery site in the UK. We also host replacement hardware at Servatech and can enable your staff to continue working from home (requires terminal services access). 6
