4 Currently over 30 types of Certificates converting to one professional educator license per person All Certificates will be exchanged for Professional Educator Licenses, or Professional Educator Licenses with Stipulations, or Substitute Licenses Everything online in new Licensure System One single license per educator Leveled certificate system ends No Initial or Standard teaching certificates Most Licenses valid for five years
5 Replace teaching, school service personnel and administrative certificates Obtained by completing an Illinois Stateapproved educator program and all tests In effect 2/1/12: No grade below a C for any course that is part of the professional educator coursework Beginning September 1, 2015, all candidates for licensure required to pass an evidence-based assessment of teacher effectiveness. 14 Transitional Bilingual Educator Possesses adequate speaking, reading, and writing ability in language other than English Has the ability to communicate in English Possesses or possessed, w/in 5 yrs previous, valid teaching certificate, valid comparable teaching certificate or comparable authorization issued by foreign country; or holds comparable degree from institution of higher learning in a foreign country Valid for pre-k through grade 12 May add foreign language endorsement under certain circumstances Valid until June 30 immediately following 5 years of the endorsement being issued Shall not be renewed or extended Holder may NOT replace any presently employed teacher who otherwise would not be replaced for any reason
15 Provisional Educator Out of State applications only Endorsement in specific content area or areas Educator holds educator license with minimum of 15 s.h. content coursework from another state, US territory, or foreign country Educator does not meet requirement for full certification limited reciprocity Holds Equivalent of bachelor s degree or higher from regionally accredited college/university or equivalent (foreign) Has passed Test of Academic Proficiency and Content Area Exams Has passed Special Education General Curriculum exam for LBS1 No provisional educator for PRINCIPAL No provisional educator for alternative licensure program unless program is determined equivalent to IL program

20 Career and Technical Educator Replaces Provisional Vocational Certificate Minimum of 60 semester hours of coursework Passed the Test of Academic Proficiency Has minimum of 2000 hours of experience in last 10 years outside of education for each area to be taught Endorsement is valid until June 30 immediately following 5 years of the endorsement being issued May be renewed upon completion of professional development
21 Provisional career and technical educator Replaces temporary provisional vocational certificate Minimum of 8,000 hours of work experience in skill for which applicant is seeking endorsement Employing school board and Regional Office of Education must provide verification, in writing, to State Supt. That no qualified teacher holding a Professional Educator License or Educator License with stipulations with career and tech education endorsement is available and actual circumstances require such issuance Valid until June 30 immediately following 5 years of the endorsement being issued
