6 4 SHP IOSH Awards 2012 Crossrail wins prestigious safety award for training delivered by Havering College CROSSRAIL has received an award from the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health Practitioner (IOSH) for its lorry driver training programme delivered by Havering College. IOSH has recognised Crossrail at its annual Safety & Health Practitioner (SHP) awards by awarding the trophy for Best Achievement in Transport & Logistics. The awards, now in their sixth year, honour the endeavour and achievement of health and safety practitioners up and down the country, both at an individual and organisational level. The IOSH SHP judges praised Crossrail s logistics initiatives which are designed to minimise the risks associated with large goods vehicles working on the project. These include translating road-safety information into 18 languages, holding legal awareness seminars, improving junctions near the work sites and a lorrydriver training programme (LDIT). Crossrail has now trained over 5,000 drivers through 224 LDIT courses as part of its health and safety 'Target Zero' policy. The judges commented that the LDIT was an excellent example of a practical initiative aimed at a real and present danger that could see real results.
