2 What does legislation require? Since May of 2006, all newly licensed HGVs of more than 3.5 t and vehicles for the conveyance of more than 9 passengers including the driver must be equipped with a digital tachograph, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 561 / To fulfil your legal obligations as a fleet operator, you must regularly download and archive the data from your digital tachographs and driver cards. What you must do to comply with the law: Driver card data must be downloaded and electronically archived every 28 days* at the latest. Digital tachograph vehicle data must be downloaded and archived every 3 months* at the latest. All vehicle and driver data must be stored for a period of 1 year* and, if necessary, made available to the authorities for inspection. Depending on your company-specific requirements, VDO offers you various archiving and data management solutions, all of which comply fully with the legal regulations. 3 Why is TIS-Compact III the right solution for me? TIS-Compact III is an all-in-one downloading and archiving solution. It is used as a basic program for visualising, downloading, archiving and printing out vehicle and driver data. TIS-Compact III is a simple, efficient data archiving solution tailor-made for owner-drivers and fleet operators (with up to 5 vehicles and 10 drivers) who do not require comprehensive evaluations. i Advantages of TIS-Compact III the downloading and archiving solution With the portable TIS-Compact III, you can directly download vehicle and driver data from all digital tachographs. An additional external power supply is not necessary. You can easily export data at any time to your own in-house DP systems or to TIS-Web for further processing. You can transfer data to a computer (as if you were using a USB stick, for example), where it can be visualised, archived and printed out. 3

4 How do I download my data? Using a special Downloadkey which has the TIS-Compact III software preinstalled, you can download data from digital tachographs and inserted driver cards quickly and securely. A company card must be inserted in the device for downloading to take place. TIS-Compact III is also available as a TIS-Compact III Portable Set, in combination with a Mobile Card Reader. This enables drivers to download the data from their driver cards without the need for a company card. i TIS-Compact III offers you a whole range of useful functions for secure and efficient archiving. The signatures of the downloaded files are automatically checked and you are informed about any defective files which are detected. Concise graphics make the archiving of driver card and mass memory data simple and convenient. The system warns you about up - coming downloads at the right time. You know at a glance when the next download is due Clearly laid out displays show you when the next download is due for each individual vehicle and for each driver card. 4

5 What additional information can the archived data give me? With the TIS-Compact III software, your data can be visualized, archived and printed out at the computer. This gives you e. g. an overview of driving time, working time and rest periods anytime you want. You can also display a graph of driving time speed values from the previous 24 hours (driving time only). Ascertain at an early stage whether or not legal regulations are being adhered to You can see at a glance whether or not downloaded data has any gaps. You can also display a list of activities (working time, driving time and rest periods) for each and every driver and vehicle. Optimise your drivers driving behaviour A speed profile of the previous 24 hours (driving time only) gives you a real insight into the driving style of each individual driver. 5
