This year s program offers a variety of topics that impact the insurance industry from an accounting and systems perspective. Join us for the opportunity to visit with old friends and make new ones as well as learning from both the speakers and other participants by sharing ideas and knowledge of Texas insurance. If you need CPE credit, you can earn up to 8 credits at this conference, a great value! The $150 early bird registration fee remains a great value and includes a continental breakfast, all sessions and breaks and a buffet lunch. Please take advantage of the early bird registration fee by registering by the deadline of November 6 th. Also make sure you take the opportunity to visit with our exhibitors regarding the many products and service solutions that they have to offer. We encourage exhibitors and sponsors to sign up early to guarantee inclusion in the conference booklet that will go to print two weeks prior to the conference date. This is a one day conference so no special hotel arrangements have been made, however, if you need hotel accommodations, a list of hotels in the Las Colinas area can be found in the registration package. Early registration is encouraged, although we will be accepting registrations through the date of the conference. The early bird deadline is Friday, November 6th. 4 Insurance Accounting and Systems Association Making Sense of the US Economic Recovery and Beyond John V. Duca, Associate Director of Research and Vice President Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas John will provide perspective on the national economic recovery, with some comments about the regional economy. Please note that as a Fed official, John cannot comment on the future course of interest rates, exchange rates, or financial asset prices. John is the Associate Director of Research and Vice President at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, where he supervises and conducts research in macroeconomics and finance. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 1991, John was an economist at the Federal Reserve Board from 1986 to where he briefed former Fed Chairman Greenspan, former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker, and the Federal Reserve Board--and was a part-time lecturer at the University of Maryland. John now teaches money and banking as an Adjunct Professor at Southern Methodist University. During his years in the Federal Reserve System, John has given many presentations and has published over 70 articles on macroeconomics, money, credit, wages, and housing. John graduated summa cum laude (Phi Beta Kappa) from Yale with a B.A. He received a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton, where he first met former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and studied much of his research. Since 1991, John s family has lived in Rockwall, Texas, where John had served as a trustee of The Fulton School (a private college prep. school) and on the City of Rockwall s capital improvements committee. Leases Deep Dive Dave Christensen, CPA RGP Since we won t expected that the FASB will issue its final standard on leases before the conference you can come catch a sneak peak of the overhauled model that will change how all lessee s will accounted for its leases. We will walk through the technical concepts as well as some case studies that will further illustrate how the new models for lessee s will work. As a Managing Consultant at RGP, Dave works as a part of RGP s client service team focusing on the delivery of technical accounting advice on a national basis. He has extensive US GAAP and SAP expertise and is currently focused on revenue recognition efforts. Prior to joining RGP in 2015, Dave spent 9 years with USAA as the Assistant Vice President of Accounting Policy and External Reporting, 3 years with GE Insurance as the Lead Technical Accounting Advisor, 5 years at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as the Statutory Accounting Principles Manager and 6 years as an audit manager at Deloitte & Touche.

Karen is recognized as a Microsoft Office Specialist at both Proficient and Expert levels. In September 2014, Karen was certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist Expert in Excel Karen provides extensive one-on-one training to adults in various business settings on many technical topics. Key elements to her success are her excellent organizational presentation skills, devotion to her students, and sensitivity to their needs. Karen is passionate about expanding her knowledge base and training skills by enrolling in other certification programs and continuing formal education.

6 Captives, What s Changed? William Baxley Texas Captive Insurance Association Insurance Accounting and Systems Association With the last legislative session expanding the captive insurance statute in Texas, there is more opportunity for insurers to work with and utilize these types of entities, with the potential for development or expansion of fronting programs and group business as well as using them for their own risks. We will hear from a TxCIA board member and longtime corporate risk manager and treasurer about what is new with the Texas law and how corporations frequently use their captives to interface with commercial insurers over time. Bill Baxley is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and with the exception of a short stint in Boca Raton, Florida, has resided in Texas since Professionally, Bill joined Freeman in 2001 as vice president finance, treasurer and assistant secretary. Prior to joining Freeman, he was vice president of risk management for ANC Rental Corporation (Alamo/National Car Rental) where he managed the insurance and captive operations of the company; he spent 12 years with JCPenney in banking, investments and risk management and 5 years with a predecessor to Bank of America. At Freeman, Bill is responsible for the company s finance functions, including treasury, retirement plan investments, and risk management and insurance as well as managing the company s captive insurance operations in Hawaii and Texas. He is also responsible for the Investment and Enterprise Risk Management committees which report directly to the Freeman Board of Directors. Bill is a former President of the Bermuda Captive Owners Association and the Dallas Chapter of Financial Executives International. He is a member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society and the Association for Financial Professionals. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Property and Casualty Trust, the captive insurance company of the United Methodist Church. Bill graduated from The University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and marketing. He holds an MBA in Finance from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University. He is also maintains the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation.

Paul has a long career in insurance finance, operations, and training. He has been a CEO, CFO, CIO and entrepreneur. Paul has been actively involved in the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (IASA) since 1973 being the co-editor and chapter author of the first IASA Life Insurance accounting textbook. He currently is a board member of Armed Forces Insurance Company, Cameron Mutual Insurance Company, and the Missouri Insurance Education Foundation. In retirement, Paul authored his first book entitled BASIC Relationship and Leadership Strategies Commonsense Ideas on How to Get Along Better with the Important People in Your Life. C Panel Discussion This panel consists of C-level executives from several insurance companies who will discuss their role within their organization, as well as providing their insight into trends in the insurance industry and issues that the industry faces.

James Menck Insurance Regulatory and Internal Audit Services, Eide Bailly LLP With the ever-growing regulatory demands of self and independent assessment for solvency and enterprise-wide risk, there is growing overlap of both self and independent oversight efforts in the insurance industry. This session will explore common goals between existing, new, and upcoming oversight efforts and techniques to leverage internal and external work for efficiency. James Menck has more than 25 years of experience serving the insurance industry in the areas of public accounting, internal audit, and regulatory. Over his years in the industry, James has obtained experience in all lines of Property and Casualty, Health and Life insurance business while working with a diverse range of companies around the country. In public accounting, James has performed GAAP and Statutory auditing, regulatory and consulting services. As an internal audit director of a national health insurance company, James was responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley testing and reporting as well as financial and operational audit. He is currently a member of Eide Bailly s Internal Audit Services practice focusing on the insurance industry. James experience serving insurance regulators across the country has focused largely on financial examinations. Early in his career, James spent five years as a regulator for the Texas Department of Insurance. James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Institute of Internal Auditors, Society of Financial Examiners, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

10 NAIC Statutory Update Sara Cork, Statutory Accountant StoneRiver Insurance Accounting and Systems Association This session will have the latest updates from the June Blanks Working Group conference call, which finalized the 2015 Annual Statement. In addition, we ll take a look at the accompanying accounting changes put into place by the Statutory Accounting Principles Working Group. Through the session, you will be able to: 1. Plan for the completion of 2015 Annual Statements 2. Discuss pending reporting changes 3. Understand the current priorities of the NAIC Sara Cork began her career in the insurance industry in She has 7 years of Property/Casualty insurance experience and 7 years of Life insurance experience. She has worked for both Life and Property/Casualty companies, completing and reviewing statutory statements and preparing other statutory filings. In May of this year, Sara started working for StoneRiver as their Statutory Accountant. At StoneRiver, she assists with client support questions and the updating of formulas in the efreedom statement software. Sara enjoys spending time with family and friends, running and attending sporting events. Cork holds a B.A. in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree.
