OVERLAKE CANCER CENTER CAMPAIGN TO CREATE THE MOST ADVANCED & COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER FOR THE EASTSIDE COMMUNITY
WHY WE RE BUILDING A NEW CANCER CENTER
The story of cancer treatment is changing. On one hand, incidence rates are on the rise. This year alone, there will be an estimated 1.7 million new diagnoses nationwide. Washington State has one of the highest incidence rates in the country, with over 38,000 new cancer cases expected this year alone. And data shows that right here in our service area, we can expect a similar trend incidence rates of the most common cancers are on the rise on the Eastside. More and more people require the comprehensive services and personalized care Overlake is known for. The story of cancer treatment is one of hope. Despite the rising rates of new cancer diagnoses, cancer treatment continues to advance, contributing to increased survival rates a stark contrast to those of just a few decades ago. The five-year survival rate is currently at 68 percent, up from 49 percent. By 2020, we expect this to climb to 73 percent. All of this is possible because of more effective treatments, better and earlier detection, and the addition of complementary services in cancer care. Yet as more and more people overcome cancer, there is a growing demand for post-treatment approaches to ongoing care so we can better meet survivors needs. With cancer, no two journeys are the same, making individualized care essential. The newest personalized approaches to the treatment and care of cancer are therefore another part of what s driving the need for Overlake s Cancer Center and have inspired its design. THE NEED Likewise, it s critical to coordinate care between providers and promote collaboration so patients receive the best and most integrative care possible. The new Center will make it possible for us to deliver medical excellence as the needs of cancer patients and survivors continue to change. A growing and aging Eastside population Rising incidence rates New approaches to care, including complementary services The importance of patient experience to patient outcomes

NOW IS THE TIME After 40 years of providing top-tier, patient focused cancer care, Overlake Medical Center is setting out to create the most comprehensive and advanced Cancer Center in the region. Our new state-of-the-art facility will be designed to help cancer patients and their families return to wellness by combining the very best in prevention, screening, diagnostic, treatment and integrative services all in one location. We ll continue to provide comprehensive care, focus on patient satisfaction, recruit and retain the best physicians, and employ the latest technology and treatment available. Now is the time. We must make the necessary investments now to prepare for the growing numbers of people who will be seeking our help in the very near future. That s why we ve launched a campaign to help fund this $20 million project by raising a minimum of $10 million in philanthropic support from the community we serve.

BENEFITS Capacity for growth Single point-of-entry Improved patient access and navigation Patient-centric operational flow Recruitment of physicians & staff Attract & establish partnerships Windows & natural light Improved efficiency Co-located multidisciplinary clinic Added ancillary and support services Overlake s Cancer Center will be a leading edge facility designed to meet the emerging needs of our patients and their families providing the highest-quality comprehensive care from diagnosis through treatment and beyond, as we focus on maintaining the health of survivors. We ll integrate traditional medicine that treats the disease with support services that treat the mind, body and spirit. Overlake is focused on the patient experience because we know that better experience equals better outcomes. Patients at the Cancer Center can expect to receive all outpatient care in one integrated, total care clinic. In addition to the best care, treatment and technology, we ll add services such as genetic counseling, acupuncture, physical therapy, and psychological and palliative care all on site. The Cancer Center will allow us to enhance our focus on wellness, prevention and survivorship. Working side by side, our caregivers will draw upon technological advances and the integration of complementary services to develop individualized treatment plans customized for each patient. The new facility will be designed around patients needs, providing easy access and a patient-centric flow, all beginning with a single point of entry, without unnecessary clinical and operational hurdles. Importantly, the Cancer Center allows us to accommodate growing incidence rates by increasing our capacity. We ll have more space for additional staff, physicians and patients. We ll build an interdisciplinary care team that works together, leading to the best possible patient outcomes. The Center will allow us to attract top physicians and clinical staff and grow partnerships with community providers, as well as improve our ability to adopt new technologies and treatments, keeping Overlake on the leading edge of cancer care for decades to come.

FEATURES Easy access, with a dedicated, highly visible main entrance and single point check-in Centralized treatment spaces Comfortable consultation rooms On-site complementary services such as genetic counseling, physical therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, support groups and other services Healing environment with welcoming spaces and natural light INTEGRATED SERVICES Radiation Oncology Medical Oncology Surgical Oncology Breast Health/Breast Surgery Cancer Screening & Diagnostics Clinical Trials & Research Genetic Counseling Nutritional Oncology Oncology Rehabilitation Integrative Oncology Psychosocial Oncology Outpatient Palliative Care Wellness & Resource Center Survivorship
COST & TIMELINE Providing the highest level of service and being prepared to meet the growing demand for cancer care requires a sizeable investment. Overlake is a nonprofit organization and because we don t receive tax dollars, we rely on charitable contributions to safeguard and improve the health of our Eastside community. The Overlake Cancer Center is a $20 million project that depends on at least $10 million in philanthropic support. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2016 and be complete in spring 2017.
