2 NORTH LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL REPORT To: POLICY AND RESOURCES (HUMAN RESOURCES) SUB- COMMITTEE Subject: QUARTERLY ABSENCE STATl STI CS JULY TO SEPTEMBER 2012 From: HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES Date: 26 OCTOBER 2012 Ref: IW/TB/HL Introduction This report presents information on the level of sickness absence for Quarter 2 of year 2012/13 along with a comparison of Quarter /12 and Quarter / Background The Audit Scotland Full Time Equivalent (FTE) average days lost per employee for Q2, for all Council employees is 2.35 FTE days. This compares to 2.15 FTE days in Q2 of 201 1/12 and 2.72 FTE days in Q1 of Details of the FTE average days lost for each Service and each employee category are included in Appendix 1. Over the period July to September 2012, the monthly FTE average days lost per employee was 0.85 FTE days in July, 0.69 FTE days in August and 0.84 FTE days in September (Appendix 1). In the same period last year, the FTE average days lost per employee was 0.75 days in July, 0.64 days in August and 0.77 days in September Appendix 2 provides information on the monthly absence rate for each Service; the Council as a whole and a comparison with the Council s monthly absence rate for the previous two financial years. The following key points are highlighted in Appendix 3:- Short term absence equalled 37.84% of the overall absence. Long term absence equalled 62.16% of overall absence. 2.5 Appendix 4 shows the progress to date that Services have made towards reaching their sickness absence target figure, on a monthly and year to date basis for Quarter Appendix 5 shows the top 5 reasons for long and short term absence in each Service for the quarter.

3 3. Recommendation 3.1 The Sub-Committee is asked to note for its interest the absence statistics for the period July to September Head of Human Resources Encs.
