1 Career and Technical Education Business and Industry Route Teacher Preparation Program Bates Technical College offers training that prepares individuals with business and industry experience for career and technical education (CTE) teaching careers at the secondary level, grades Bates is approved by the Washington State Professional Education Standards Board to offer this business and industry route to CTE teacher certification. The program consists of eleven teacher preparation courses: Methods of Teaching Occupational Analysis Course Organization Philosophy of Career and Technical Education Industrial Safety Work-Based Learning Coordination Student Development and Leadership Diverse Needs of Students Introduction to School Law Abuse and Neglect of Children Teaching Practicum CTE In addition to the required courses, you must also meet a basic skills proficiency requirement. A transcript review process is available to help determine if you can substitute previous coursework for a required course(s). The quality, competency-based training is flexible making it easier for you to maintain jobs and family responsibilities while moving through the program. Courses are offered quarterly on weeknights and weekends and via distance learning. An accelerated summer weekday offering provides an opportunity to complete the majority of the courses during the summer. You design your own plan to meet your individual needs.
