8 Optical cable infrastructure Ventspils is connected to the international telecommunication network with two independent optical submarine cables as well as four major terrestrial optical lines: Lattelecom optical cable from Ventspils to Stockholm with a capacity of 10 Gbps Baltic Fiber optical cable Ventspils Gothland Stockholm: Constructed in 2002 is the newest cable in the Baltic Sea Consists of 68 fibers (manufactured by Ericsson) Present theoretical capacity from 10 to 40 Gigabit/sec each fiber Used capacity is 5 Gigabit/sec The cable has 0% damage rate and the operator guarantees a 99.7% availability of an international IP transit service
