Terms and Definitions GPS is a US-made satellite geographical positioning system. Signals from GPS satellites enable the customer s GPS receiver to calculate its current geographical coordinates, speed and its travel direction. GLONASS (ГЛОНАСС) is a Russian-made navigation system. Its basic difference from the GPS system is that the orbital rotation of GLONASS satellites is not synchronous with the rotation of the Earth and this provides for their greater stability. Analysis Report is information of a Vehicle or a group of Vehicles operation for the selected period of time (normally a day, a week, a month). It may contain figures, tables, graphs, a map with the Vehicle s route shown, diagrams. Additional sensors are not standard sensors mounted on the Vehicle by the Manufacturer. Normally these are: a fuel level sensor, a fuel consumption sensor, an axle load sensor, a temperature sensor. Reports Generation Interval is a setting that sets a time period for generation of this or that Report on the Tracking Device. In СКРТ you may set different intervals for different types of Reports. 15 sec intervals are normally used to transmit data on the actual coordinates of the Vehicle and 60 sec intervals are used for Reports containing data on the Vehicle operation. Maps are images (vector or raster images ) used in Service Servers. Generally maps received from Google Maps, Openstreetmap etc are used. A Route is a data array containing the coordinates, speed and travel direction of the Vehicle corresponding to the Vehicle route across a given area. The Route is usually represented on the map as a series of dots connected with lines. Dots are often presented as arrows indicating the direction. Operational Data is the latest data received from the Vehicle including the coordinates and basic parameters of its operation. The Operational Data is updated on the Server as soon as the latest Operational Data is received. Reports (On-Board Reports) are data recorded by the Tracker at certain intervals (Regular Reports) or in case of an Event (Event Reports). Event Reports are Reports generated in case of a certain Event and contain information on the time, Parameters and Counters related to the Event. Parameter is a characteristic of the Vehicle varying with time (increase/decrease). E.g. speed, volume of fuel in the tank, coordinates. A Parameter is usually presented as a graph and average value. Regular Reports is a type of On-Board Reports regularly generated by the Tracker, in accordance with the interval of their generation set in the Settings, e.g. every second, every minute etc. 1 minute interval is most commonly set in vehicle tracking systems , Technoton 4 from 30
СКРТ Users are personnel having access to data in the СКРТ system. СКРТ system has the following User grades (with ascending authority): driver; transportation company managers; Installer; Regional service centers; Manufacturer. Instant Fuel Consumption is fuel consumption per 100 km of travel distance. This parameter has a very wide range from 1 l/100 km (the vehicle is coasting from a hill, the engine is idling) to 1000 l/100 km (a heavily loaded vehicle is slowly riding in a traffic jam). Fuel Consumption is the value of the fuel volume consumed by the Vehicle for a certain time period. It is measured in liters (do not confuse it with the fuel consumption per hour and Instant Fuel Consumption Real-Time Mode (Online Mode) is the СКРТ System mode of operation in which On- Board Reports are immediately transmitted to the Server. Real-Time Mode requires no permanent availability of GSM network. Event is a comparatively rare and abrupt change of Parameters. E.g. a drastic increase of volume of fuel in the tank is an Event called Filling. The Event may have one or a few characteristics. Thus, the Filling Event has the following characteristics: volume of fuel at the beginning of Filling, volume of fuel at the end of Filling, volume of Filling, etc. As soon as the Event is identified, the Tracker records the time of the Event which is subsequently specified in the Event Report. The Event is always linked to the time and place where it was identified. Service Server is hardware and software designed for processing and storage of On-Board Reports as well as for generation and presentation of Analysis Reports via Internet. It has its permanent Internet address.. Counter is a digital accumulation characteristic. It can only increment with time. The Counter is presented as one number, e.g. fuel consumption, the distance covered, engine hours counter. Tracker is an element of the vehicle tracking system performing the function of reading data from standard sensors mounted by the Manufacturer and additional sensors mounted on the Vehicle, reception of signals of coordinates from navigation satellites and transmission of data to the Service Server.. Access Point is an element of the Vehicle Tracking System designed to receive data from vehicles and transmit it to the Service Server or to the Customer software. Each Access Point is allocated a special Communications Channel. GPRS Access Point (GPRS AP) is a computer with an assigned IP address, database and applied software. GPRS AP is the basic one for Online Tracking Device. SMS Access Point (SMS AP) is a computer with a GSM modem (a telephone) connected to it, a database and applied software. SMS AP is an alternate Access Point used by online Tracking Device in case the connection with GPRS AP is not available, e.g. while using roaming. Vehicle is an object controlled by the Vehicle Tracking System. This is generally a truck, a bus or a tractor, sometimes a locomotive, a ship, a utility vehicle. From the point of view of Vehicle Tracking System, fixed equipment such as diesel generators, heating boilers, burners and so on are considered as Vehicles , Technoton 5 from 30
Installer is a СКРТ User who is in charge of installation and adjustment of the Vehicle Tracking System elements on the Vehicle. Sometimes he takes part in the installation of the customer software. As a rule, Installers undergo special training by the Manufacturer. Functional Module is the hardware/software Tracker component that has no separate casing; i.e. it is built into the Tracker itself. Fuel Consumption per Hour is a quickly changing parameter that characterizes the volume of fuel instant consumption by the Vehicle. It is measured in liters per hour. It amounts to 2-4 l/hour for trucks in the idling mode, l/hour for average load. The maximum fuel consumption per hour might be 100 and more liters per hour. Standard Sensors are sensors installed by the Vehicle Manufacturer (speed sensor, engine rpm sensor, open door sensor, engine temperature sensor, oil pressure sensor and so on) , Technoton 6 from 30

The general diagram explaining how the Vehicle Tracking System operates is provided in Figure 3. ТС Vehicle Access Point GSM coverage On-Board Reports Service Server Operational data and Reports User Internet Figure 3 Diagram showing how the Vehicle Tracking System operates. The Tracking Device mounted on the Vehicle identifies its geographical position, speed and travel direction based on signals received from navigation satellites. The Tracking Device also receives signals from on-board equipment sensors connected to it and records values of all parameters into its internal memory. Then Reports (see 2.9) are generated either at preset intervals, or in case of a certain Event which are transmitted to the Access Point (further on AP) by means of GPRS or SMS messages. The Access Point, in its turn, transmits the received data to one or several Service Servers, e.g. to the ORF Monitor Vehicle Tracking Service. Users, if they have a Web-browser and Internet access, may view the Reports at the Service Server. Analysis Reports are an alternative to trip sheets. They contain detailed information which is needed for efficient monitoring vehicles and drivers: working schedule, time and place of stops, fuel consumption, filling the Vehicle and draining fuel from the tank, the route, speed i.e. dozens of parameters , Technoton 12 from 30

2.4 FM On-Board Clock The Functional Module On-Board Clock is designed to generate and transmit signals of time for other Functional Modules. The Functional Module On-Board Clock is the Tracker electronic clock. It may be adjusted and set in two ways: by its timing with the clock of the computer to which the Tracker is connected; by its timing using signals from navigation satellites. The On-Board Clock timing with the clock of the computer may be done manually during the Tracker adjustment. The On-Board Clock timing with clocks of navigation satellites is conducted within equal time intervals that are set using the Tracker settings. The period of 1 hour is set default. For correct processing of Reports by the Server it is recommended to set the timing of the clock using signals from navigation satellites. 2.5 FM Navigation Receiver The Functional Module Navigation Receiver is designed to receive and process signals from navigation satellites. The FM Navigation Receiver needs no adjustment. To indicate the parameters of the FM Navigation Receiver, a yellow LED indicator located on the Tracking Device panel is used. 16 2.6 FM Collector The Functional Module Collector is designed for collection and initial processing of signals received from analog and pulse sensors connected to the Tracking Device. The FM Collector converts into Parameters the signals received and transmits them to the FM Analyst. To monitor parameters of the Vehicle operation, both Standard, and Additional Sensors may be connected (see 3.3). E.g. to obtain data of fuel consumption, you may connect a fuel consumption sensor or a burner pulses counter. To obtain accurate data of volume of fuel in the tank of a vehicle, you may mount an additional fuel level sensor. In Tracking Device of special modifications СКРТ 25M and СКРТ 25M-GLONASS the FM Collector receives a signal of triggering the emergency button and converts them into input Parameters for the FM Emergency Button. For reliable and accurate tracking the Vehicle parameters it is recommended to use costeffective TECHNOTON equipment: DFM fuel level meter, NozzleCrocodile contactless reader device and DUT-E fuel level sensor. Details regarding the listed equipment specifications are available at F.M. Analyst The FM Analyst filters Parameters, identifies Events and calculates the Counters increments. 20 3 Installation and Connection This Chapter contains basic recommendations regarding the Tracking Device installation. Detailed information is contained in the document СКРТ 25 Tracking Device. Installation Manual. The Tracking Device gets power supply from the power circuit of the Vehicle on which it is mounted. Harness for СКРТ 25 (СКРТ 25M) (further on harness of standard signals) included into the Accessories Supply Kit is used for connection of power supply to the Tracking Device. 3.1 Visual Examination before the Installation Operations Before the installation operations you must visually examine the Tracking Device to identify the following possible defects that might have occurred during shipment, storage or improper handling: visible damage to the Tracking Device casing and its connectors; damaged connector and insulation of cables of the harness of standard signals; damaged GLONASS/GPS and GSM antennas casings, their cables and connectors. In case defects are identified, you should contact the Product Supplier. 3.2 Tracking Device Installation ATTENTION! Before the Tracking Device installation operations you must switch off all electrical circuits of the Vehicle. For this purpose you need to use the accumulator battery switch (further on Battery) or remove contacts from the Battery. To mount the Tracking Device, you should select a clean, dry location far from heating and cooling equipment of the Vehicle (e.g. air conditioning system). The most suitable location for its mounting is the driver s cabin. 3.3 Connection of the Tracking Device ATTENTION! During the operation of the Tracking Device connection you should insert fuses (to be purchased separately) into the power supply circuit after the ignition lock. The nominal current of the fuse is no more than 2 A. Before connecting the Tracking Device, you should check the grounding of the Vehicle chassis. To perform this, with the engine and ignition off, you need to measure the electric impedance between the - terminal of the Battery and the selected place for connection of contact 1 (GND) of the Tracker SENSORS connector.. If the impedance exceeds 1 Ohm, incorrect operation of the Tracking Device and sensors connected to it is possible. In this case you must make sure that all contacts and connectors affecting the quality of the electric contact of the - terminal of the Battery and conductive parts of the Vehicle chassis and assemblies are properly fixed. In case the repair is needed, it should be done , Technoton 20 from 30
The value of the input impedance of any of the Tracking Device inputs where measurement is taken exceeds 50 kohms. Therefore, their parallel connection to the Vehicle s Standard Sensors and indicators is allowed. The Tracking Device is connected with a harness of standard signals, in accordance with contacts designation in Figure 5 and Table 7.. Figure 5 View of the standard signals harness and connector (from the contacts side) Table 7 Designation of contacts of the standard signals harness # of Connector Contact Cable Marking Designation of Circuit Cable Color* Signal Characteristic 1 GND Ground «-» Brown - 2 VBAT 3 Т735 4 Т034 5 Т701 8 Т040 Power supply «+» (Terminal 30 before ignition lock Vehicle electrical circuit voltage (Terminal 15 after ignition lock ) Fuel level (Analog signal of the fuel level meter) Impulse fuel flow meter (pulse signal of the fuel flow meter or burner) Orange Red** Red White Green Т051** Emergency Pink Engine rpm (pulse signal from the tachometer ) Yellow Analog, Voltage from 0 to 50 V Analog, Voltage from 0 to 50 V Analog,, Voltage from 0 to 18 V Pulse, Pulse time from 90 msec for a fuel flow meter to 0.1 msec for a burner Discrete, voltage from 0 to 8 V OFF mode; voltage from 8 to 27 V ON mode Pulse, Pulse time from 0.5 to 500 msec * The Manufacturer reserves the right to replace the cables of specified colors with cables of different colors. First of all, pay attention to the cables marking. ** For СКРТ 25M cable harness , Technoton 21 from 30
The connection of contact 3 with T735 cable is needed to record facts of switching on and off the ignition and to measure the voltage of the Vehicle electrical circuit. No more than one fuel level meter with analog output signal or an electronic summing device (summator) with analog output signal may be connected to contact 4 with cable Т034, if two or more fuel level sensors are installed in the tanks of the Vehicle. In Tracking Device of СКРТ 25 and СКРТ 25-GLONASS modifications no more than one fuel flow meter with pulse output signal or one burner impulses counter or one burner of the engine may be connected to contact 5 with Т701 cable. In Tracking Device of СКРТ 25 and СКРТ 25-GLONASS modifications you may connect the emergency button to contact 5 with Т051 cable. The Tracking Device connection scheme is provided in Figure 6. ATTENTION! The harness for standard signals, GLONASS/GPS and GSM antennas cables must be pulled through the sealing bar before the connection operations. * For СКРТ 25 and СКРТ 25-GLONASS Tracking Device. ** For СКРТ 25M and СКРТ 25M-GLONASS Tracking Device. Figure 6. The Tracker connection scheme , Technoton 22 from 30
To connect the Tracking Device power supply cables, it is recommended to use contacts (see Figure 7а); to connect cables conducting signals, it is recommended to use connectors (see Figure 7b). a) contact b) connectors Figure 7. Contacts and connectors to connect the Tracking Device Green PWR LED indicator located on the Tracking Device panel is used to display the Power On mode of the Tracking Device. Table 8 Modes of «PWR»LED indicator Color of the Light Green ON Indicator Status OFF The power is on Indication Mode The power is off (or the voltage supplied is less the minimally allowed voltage) ATTENTION! To reduce the effect of conducted interference that might occur in the Vehicle electric circuits, it is recommended to install an additional relay switch (see Annex A, Figure A.2). 3.4 Mounting GPS/GLONASS and GSM Antennas To receive signals from navigation satellites by the Tracking Device, the GPS/GLONASS antenna included in the supplied accessories kit is used. To send and receive SMS and GPRS messages, the GSM antenna included in the supplied accessories kit is used. The antennas are connected to the Tracking Device using special plugs (see 1.4, Figure 2). The GPS/GLONASS и GSM antennas are completely hermetic and waterproof. ATTENTION! During the installation of the GPS/GLONASS и GSM antennas you should pay special attention to their cabling. You must prevent any possible friction of the cables against each other as well as any contact with rotating and heated parts of the Vehicle. A two-sided scotch sticker is attached to the bottom of the GSM antenna. To fix the antenna, you must clean and degrease the place selected for the antenna mounting. After that, you need to remove the protective scotch tape, attach and press the antenna evenly to the surface , Technoton 23 from 30
It is allowed to mount the GSM antenna both inside and outside the Vehicle. It is recommended to mount the GSM antenna as high as possible to maintain stable communication in areas where the power of the signal from mobile operators base stations is insufficient. In case the Vehicle operates in the area where the power of signal is stable and high, the GSM antenna could be mounted inside the Vehicle cabin. In this case the antenna should be fixed very close to the windshield or to the side windows. At the bottom of the receiver part of the GPS/GLONASS antenna a magnetic plate is fixed. Using this plate the antenna is fixed on metal parts of the Vehicle frame. To mount the GPS/GLONASS antenna, it is recommended to choose an open place with horizontal surface, free from overhanging metal components restricting the view of the sky. The optimal location to mount the GPS/GLONASS antenna is the roof of the Vehicle cabin. It is allowed to mount a GPS/GLONASS antenna inside the cabin. In this case the antenna must be fixed on the dashboard at a minimum distance from the windshield. ATTENTION! In the process of manufacturing windshields for some up-to-date vehicles they are coated with a thin metallic film, also metal heating elements are used in windshields. The windshields of this type considerably reduce or totally block the reception of signals from navigation satellites. In this case the installation of GPS/GLONASS antenna inside the cabin of a Vehicle is not possible. 3.5 Installation of SIM Card To install a SIM card, you need to remove the SIM card holder from the Tracking Device. For this, you need to press the button next to the holder with a sharp object. After that, you need to insert the SIM card into the holder and fix it in the Tracking Device. ATTENTION! Before the SIM card installation in the Tracking Device you need to switch off the PIN-code check of the SIM card. To do this, you need to insert the SIM card into a mobile telephone, select access settings and switch off the PIN-code check. 3.6 Adjustment of Tracking Device Using SK Online Service Kit The Tracking Device adjustment is needed to ensure the correct logging of data of travel parameters and correct identification of modes of operation of the Vehicle. The Adjustment is carried out using SK Online Service Kit (to be purchased separately). SK Online Service Kit ensures data exchange between the Tracking Device and PC. ServiceOnline applied software which is part of the Service Kit must be installed on the PC. ServiceOnline software enables to adjust the main modes of the Tracking Device operation, view the current values of Parameters as well as to save the Tracking Device settings profile in the form of a file on the PC. The process of the Tracking Device adjustment is described in detail in the document SK Online Service Kit. Operation Manual. The current version of the document may be downloaded at Remote Tracking Device Adjustment ServiceOnline software, Version 3.0 and more recent versions support remote adjustment of Tracking Device that have a firmware version not earlier than The Tracker adjust , Technoton 24 from 30
ment is conducted via Internet, without any connection of the Tracking Device and PC with cables. The PC used to adjust the remote Tracking Device must have a static IP address on the Internet.. To get this static IP address, you need to contact your Internet service provider. Detailed description of the Tracking Device remote adjustment process is provided in the document SK Online Service Kit. Operation Manual. 3.8 Sealing The Tracking Device is sealed using the sealing bar included into the Accessories Supply Kit. 26 4 Modes of Operation In order to ensure correct operation of Vehicle Tracking/Fuel Monitoring System, and to reduce mobile communication expenses in the roaming mode, the Tracking Device may operate in three modes: Home Network, Roaming and No Network. In the settings where the User selects modes of operation of the Tracking Device and which are accessible to the User a list of Reports and periodicity of their transmission to the Service Server are specified. This allows to optimize the Tracking Device operation in the area where roaming mode is used or when a signal from the mobile operator is not available at all. Home Network Mode is activated, when the Tracking Device operates in the Home Network Mode, that is, in the area where mobile communication is available with the minimum cost of SMS/GPRS traffic. Roaming Mode is activated, when the Tracking Device operates in the network of a different mobile operator (when travelling abroad). In the The Roaming Mode the smaller number and periodicity of Reports transmission is set which permits to reduce the high costs of roaming services provided by mobile communication operators. No Network Mode is activated, when the signal from the mobile communication operator is lost. Therefore, Reports are stored in the Tracking Device internal memory and are transmitted, when the signal is available. NOTE. If Generation of Reports and Guarantee of Delivery settings are selected during the Tracking Device adjustment in the Roaming and No Network modes but no mode of the Report transmission is specified, all the Reports generated will be stored in the Guarantee Buffer Memory and transmitted, when the Tracking Device is switched into the Home Network mode. 5 GPRS and SMS Access Points Data is received from the Tracking Device using GPRS/SMS Access Points. All the data transmitted by the Tracking Device using GPRS/SMS is received by an Access Point, then processed and sent to Service Servers. Data is transmitted to the Service Server using IPM Protocol. The current version of this document could be downloaded at In All СКРТ 25 modifications connection is preset to TECHNOTON Access Points by the Manufacturer and needs no adjustment by the User or Installer. In case you need to connect the Tracking Device to the Access Point of the regional operator which uses TECHOTON equipment, you are to change the Tracking Device settings. The settings are changed using SK Online Service Kit (to be purchased separately). NOTE TECHNOTON APs are able to transmit data simultaneously to several servers , Technoton 26 from 30
6 Storage It is recommended to store the Tracking Device in dry indoor locations. The Tracking Device storage is allowed only in the Manufacturer packing at the ambient air temperature from 50 о С to +40 о С and relative humidity up to 100% at +25 о С. It is forbidden to store the Tracking Device in one room with substances causing corrosion of metals and/or containing corrosive components. 30 Annex А Method of Reducing the Effect of Conducted Interference Occurring in the Vehicle Electrical Circuit A the moment of switching off the ignition and when the engine is on, impulse interference with the peak value of ±200 V may occur in the Vehicle electrical circuit. When the standard connection scheme is used (see Figure A.1), such interference may result in the Tracking Device incorrect operation. CKPT Tracking Device Figure A.1. Standard Tracking Device power supply scheme of connection To reduce the effect of impulse interference on the Tracking Device, it is recommended to install an additional relay switch (see Figure A.2). Its main purpose is the protection of the Tracker power supply circuit from the impulse interference at the moment the ignition is being switched off. ATTENTION! The additional relay switch must be installed in the section of the circuit right before the Tracking Device itself. CKPT Tracking Device Figure A.2 Recommended scheme of connection of the Tracking Device power supply circuit * It is recommended to use a relay switch similar to the one installed in the Vehicle electrical circuit. For the 24V circuit of the Vehicle a relay switch (AVAR JS Company) and socket connector with contacts (socket) (4 pcs.) may be used, in accordance with ОСТ , Technoton 30 from 30
