4 Simula Research Laboratory Networks and Distributed Systems ND conducts basic research on networks, ranging from Internet backbones to networks on chip. Our goal is to provide solutions for resilient, predictable and flexible networks as well as for resource efficient networked systems.

5 Simula Research Laboratory Scientific Computing The research in the Scientific Computing department focuses on numerical methods and software for solving partial differential equations. Our aim is to develop efficient, reliable, and maintainable software addressing mathematical models based on partial differential equations

6 Simula Research Laboratory Software Engineering The research in Software Engineering focuses on technological innovation combined with carefully conducted empirical studies. Our goal is to provide novel, practical and cost-effective solutions to important, enduring and hard problems faced by our industrial partners.

7 Research education is one of Simula s three main axes, alongside basic research and technology transfer We will: Attain high scientific quality Offer relevant research tasks with potential for applications in society or industry Ensure successful Masters- and PhD-projects, both with respect to quality and time Contribute to substantial scientific and personal development for postdoctoral fellows

9 Simula Strategy & Simula Culture Document; At present, the majority of researchers at Simula are male. It is important for Simula to try to recruit more female researchers. Simula will do so by encouraging female students to enroll in M.Sc. studies, and motivating them to apply for Ph.D. positions. Furthermore, Simula will ensure that women and minorities are given full opportunities for employment, promotion and training. Embracing diversity enhances an organisation's range of experience, ideas and creativity. Simula will encourage all employees to recognise and respect the diversity of their colleagues in terms of gender, age, sexual orientation or national origin. All employees and all students are important and will, without exception, be treated as such.
