16 What Can Cancer Mapper Do? 1. Print the part of the map in your current view of the screen 2. Search location on the map by address, city, township, county, or ZIP Code 3. Show a map with your choice of street view or aerial view 4. Show the counties associated with your LCA area 5. Show the facilities in your LCA area 6. Show census tract boundaries in your LCA area 7. Show geocoded points representing where women screened by your LCA live Show areas where the concentrations of women who have participated in the program are greater (i.e. density of star icons on the map) 8. Show numerous data themes associated with clients Program; Poverty Level; Race; Age Category; Hispanic; Breast Cancers; Cervical Cancers 9. In some cases, combine selections to show more detailed theme information. Of note is that Poverty Level can be shown with any of the other client themes because Poverty Level shows as a circle icon around the star icon of the client. Poverty level is selectable by any or all of four poverty level ranges 10. When clicking on a star icon (client), identify who the client is, her address, age category and program in a Summary View When the Summary View is expanded, addition details about the client are shown including MBCIS number, phone number, recent screening results, and details of the themes listed in 8 above These slides are the property of the presenter. 17 What Can Cancer Mapper Do? (continued) 11. When clicking on a cross icon (facility), identify the name of the facility, show its federal id, and show details of facility type 13. Show hexagon icons that indicate a centroid of a ZIP Code area that reflect the presence of 1 or more clients screened for whom street address is not available 15. Map theme of count of women served by census tract (estimate based on census poverty <= 100%) Use this theme to determine geographic areas where the greatest number of women eligible for our program have come from The darker the shading, the more women that have been screened 17. Map theme of count of estimated screening need by census tract (estimate based on census poverty <= 100%) Use this theme to investigate estimated areas of need based on the difference between eligible estimates by census tract minus counts of women served by census tract Bright fuchsia areas indicate the areas with the higher estimates of women eligible for the program Neon green areas indicate over-screened areas. Unless you have compelling data suggesting otherwise, these areas likely do not need additional outreach. 12. Show county name, township name, census tract identification, school district, and latitude and longitude for any blank point in your LCA area (i.e. not clicking on a woman or a facility icon) 14. Select an area on the map using the rectangular area tool or the custom area tool Receive an aggregate report on the clients in the area you have selected this is especially useful if you view % poverty level in this report 16. Map theme of estimated women eligible served by census tract (estimate based on census poverty <= 100%) Use this theme to investigate census tracts that likely contain the greatest number of eligible women based on estimates of population and poverty The darker the shading, the higher the estimate of women eligible for the program in that geographic area 18. Map any valid address in the state of Michigan Map where a client not yet in the program lives Map where a client is moving to Look up the location of a facility not in the program Look up a possible outreach location (e.g., farmer s market or a church) 19. Allows you to record more accurate geographic locations of facilities as latitude and longitude coordinates for subsequent updates to Cancer Mapper 20. Measure the distance from a client s home to a facility or another client Either as the crow flies or with multiple points tracing roadways These slides are the property of the presenter. 18 Cancer Mapper Cannot Do the Following: 1. Specify the addresses of women who might be eligible for the program. Cancer Mapper shows you areas where eligible women probably reside based on census estimates and the locations of clients already screened in our program based on MBCIS data. 2. Specify mapped clients who are eligible for the program. You can view poverty levels of clients, but because of the Healthy Michigan Plan we cannot presume client eligibility until income is verified in person. 3. Give specific landmarks/locations that are not programmed into the system or already shown on the base map (e.g. the actual state capitol building location is not shown) 4. Completely specify the underlying eligible population. The number of women screened in an area has been determined. The number of women eligible in an area can only be estimated. 5. Tell you if the client is due for a screening or not. That is the purpose of MBCIS and the various reminder reports available to you, not Cancer Mapper. 6. Re-map a woman because you changed the data in the address field in MBCIS. The Cancer Mapper application pulls data from MBCIS, but address is not pulled. The current maintenance plan is to update addresses on a yearly basis. 7. Map house location based on a PO Box. Please get the client s street address at enrollment. If you have the PO Box, put it in the space designated for PO Box in MBCIS. If a woman only has PO Box in MBCIS she will be mapped to her ZIP Code. 8. Show data for clients based on fiscal year. The main focus of Cancer Mapper to date is to show you patterns of data for several years worth of data. It is possible that this could be programmed into the system in the future if the need is justified. These slides are the property of the presenter.
