TC M2M Release 2 major additions 9 Charging: definition of the architectural framework for recording, tracking and exchange of events relevant for the collection of statistical information and for the exchange of charging information, including correlation with charging information from the underlying network Inter-domain communications between service platforms, i.e. inter-nscl communication, on mim reference point (a variant of mid). This allow application in a domain to exchange information with application in a different domain, in a transparent way respect to the domain they belong to. M2M Light: ETSI M2M Release1 was already supporting very constrained devices via gateways, in Release 2 very constrained device can connect directly to the network platform. Implementation has been made on made on USB dongles. Semantic interworking guidelines common semantic rules has been defined for applications belonging to different industrial segment, to assure the understanding of the shared data, for a very wide set of commonly used technologies
M2M use of E.164 Numbers International standard allows Subscriber number up to 15 digits plus sub-addresses Three schemes across Europe: Open number length (e.g. Italy, Germany, Austria) Several numbers lengths allowed; UK & Eire: 3, 9 & 10; France: 2, 3, 4 & 9 Fixed number length e.g. Scandinavia With M2M & IoT number of devices 10 times more than the number of Telephony users Numbers may run out in larger countries Proprietary Information of ETSI
M2M use of E.164 Numbers Governments Sell Blocks of numbers to Telephony operators User requirement for sparse numbering to avoid misdialing Users require not to get nuisance calls from machines Not required for machines with preconfigured numbers Proprietary Information of ETSI
M2M use of IP addresses IPv4 addresses with NAT firewalls XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX Already under pressure in larger EU countries Migration to IPv6 Vast addressing range not needed in smaller countries Proprietary Information of ETSI
M2M Use of Radio Spectrum In Most countries Spectrum is Licensed for: Public Services (fire, police, healthcare) Military TV Broadcast Cellular telephony & Data Entertainment & personal communication This is preferred is standardization Reserved bands TV White Space Satellite White Space Use of Guard bands & Gray Space (may cause interference) Old unused bands e.g. 450MHz Proprietary Information of ETSI
M2M Use of Radio Spectrum Unlicensed the ISM Industrial, Scientific and Medical band free for all Shared Band ISM 433/868 MHz, 2.4GHz & 5GHz legal Interference venerability low power levels to not interfere Operate under Article 4.4 of the Radio Regulations free to use & not Interfere Used for ISP services e.g.: public & private WiFi, IEEE802.11(x) 169MHz band & 2.4 GHz, [868 MHz Metering band], [433MHz band (Vehicle tele-command) short range outdoor remote control] Can Be Used in Radio Mesh Low criticality services (e.g. waste collection) High latency, but secure data services: e.g. 868 MHz Band used for Smart Metering (may be prone to interference & retransmissions) LTE Variant in the ISM band 862Mhz neighbouring the metering band. (field trials and questions are studied into ETSI ERM TG28, currently) Radio filters for metering may rely on leakage into the neighbouring LTE ISM band Proprietary Information of ETSI
