2 PROGRAMME OVERVIEW T he truly revolutionary impact of the Internet Revolution is just beginning to be felt. E-Commerce is the explosive emergence of the internet as a major, perhaps eventually the major, worldwide distribution channel for goods, services, managerial and professional jobs. This modern electronic commerce typically uses the World Wide Web at least to some point in the transaction's lifecycle such as electronic funds transfer, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory management systems and automated data collection systems. Hence forth it would certainly be one of the driving forces for future economic growth. Nowadays, a lot of companies and individuals in Malaysia now are attracted to the E-Commerce as it gives a handsome return. Thus, leads to a greater awareness of the potential of electronic business in various sectors of the Malaysian economy. Due to this factor, it has fuelled a growing demand for semi-professionals who are competent enough in integrating the usage of business and information technology. Hence, the Department of Polytechnic Education (DPE) has worked collaboratively with the nation s industries in developing the curriculum for the programme. This collaboration aims to equip students with the up-to-date knowledge and relevant skills to meet the new global challenges and the further requirements of the business world. This move is initiated, to blend learning with simulated real-life working experience which will prepare students for a competitive edge for today s working and business environment. To address these issues, the Curriculum Development and Evaluation Division (CDED) at Department of Polytechnic Education has introduced the Diploma in Business Studies (E-Commerce) programme. The curriculum integrates business activities and information technology that sufficiently needed in developing an effective E-Commerce business. This programme prepares students to face the challenges of the globalised business world. Students gain experience and knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of business subjects which will prepare them to join the work force in future.

3 3 PROGRAMME AIMS The Diploma in Business Studies (E-Commerce) graduates in Polytechnics, Ministry of Education will have knowledge, technical skills and attitude to adapt themselves with new technological advancement and challenges in E-Commerce fields. PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO) The Diploma in Business Studies (E-Commerce) programme shall produce semiprofessionals who are: 1. knowledgeable and adaptable to the changes of new technology in online business by sustaining professional attitudes and ethics.. capable of thinking creatively and critically when facing problem solving situations at middle level managerial and operational tasks by applying the right techniques and management tools. 3. able to communicate and interact responsibly with colleagues, clients, employers and society, and also work effectively as a leader or a team. 4. competent in revealing entrepreneurship skills and competencies in competitive environment and recognize the need of lifelong learning for successful career advancement.

Register courses within seven (7) days after semester begins.. Obtain the advice from Academic Advisor (PA) before register. 3. Submit the completed form to the Academic Advisor (PA) 4. Finally get the signature of Academic Advisor and Head of Department.

6 6 COURSE CREDIT for each course is as stated in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Kursus approved by Lembaga Kurikulum Kursus Pengajian dan program Latihan Politeknik. Number of credits to be taken by the student for each semester is between twelve (1) to twenty (0) or as specified in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Program. The minimum credit amount to be accumulated by the students before they are eligible to be considered for the award of a certificate are stated in the Dokumen Kurikulum dan Struktur Program. CARRY COURSES/CARRY SEMESTER Students need to repeat all failed courses (grade point <.00) including the General Courses (such as Islamic Studies, Civilization etc.) and the Discipline Courses. Students with carry courses must discuss and get advice from Academic Advisor (PA) and approved by Head of Department. Students should repeat all the learning activities of the courses in addition to other courses for that semester. DROP/ADD COURSES Students who have registered for courses can drop or add courses, provided that the number of credit hours for that semester no less or no more than a specified number of credit hours. The dropping and adding courses must be done within the prescribed period and they must seek for advice from Academic Advisor (PA) and approval from Head of Department. Drop/Add courses can be done during the third to sixth (3 rd 6 th ) week of the semester. ATTENTION Students who have registered should follow the learning activities for the course. In order to evaluate the learning activities undertaken by a student, students must achieve a minimum percentage of attendance.
