3 2 Officer Candidate School (OCS) General Information: Three programs: Officer Candidate/Training School (OCS or OTS), Platoon Leaders Class (PLC; USMC only), Nuclear Power Officer Candidate (NUPOC, Navy only) Open to full-time enrolled (12+ credits/semester) college freshman through graduates. NUPOC primarily accepts college upperclassmen in engineering disciplines with high GPAs. Must be a U. S. Citizen, and maintain a 2.0 GPA in college Orientation specifically to become an officer; must meet mental, moral, physical requirements Candidates receive weeks of training during summers and/or after college graduation 3 classes/year for college graduates for OCC (Oct, Jan and May) Receive a commission upon successful completion of OCS and college degree requirements Commitment limited to summer training Can apply for Financial Assistance ($1575/semester) and Tuition Assistance ($5200/academic year) Guaranteed aviation or law contracts Service commitment: Ground and Law -4 years upon commissioning; Air -8 years upon being designated a Naval Aviator Visit your local Officer Selection Officer (or for PLC) for more information

4 3 Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) General Information Attend designated college with ROTC organization Scholarship pays tuition, books, fees and modest spending money Entrance by application and selection apply to college separately Service commitment via Active Duty, Army Reserves or National Guard upon graduation. Number of years depends upon chosen military occupation specialty/designator Qualifications: Cannot be older than 31 years of age by June of their commissioning year Not be married, pregnant, or legally responsible for support of any children Be in good physical and mental health Pass a medical exam Basic Application Steps: 1. Initiate contact with your local ROTC detachment: UW Madison, Marquette University, UW Oshkosh (Army only), UW Lacrosse (Army only), UW Stout (Army only), UW Stevens Point (Army only) 2. Apply on line to one or more ROTC programs 3. Take standardized college entrance exams: ACT (including the writing section) and/or SAT 4. Prepare for and complete Candidate Fitness Assessment 5. Arrange for a tour of detachment 6. Upon selection, complete medical exam for Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB)

5 4 ROTC Eligibility and Requirements Branch Can I Choose My School Can I Choose My Major Minimum Test Requirements Application Deadline Army Students that apply for Army ROTC scholarships can choose up to seven schools. Scholarships are awarded based upon scholar, athlete, leader qualities and availability at the school of your choice. The Army does try to match the needs of the student in most cases, but the Army does have final say to which school you attend. Yes, within limits 920 SAT/19 ACT January 10th Navy & Marines Students can attend any one of 67 host NROTC universities once they obtain a scholarship. Yes, but your scholarship is tied to your major (broken into three tiers). Also you must complete 1 yr of calculus & 1 yr of calculus-based physics (Navy). Yes, any 4 year degree (USMC) 520 M 530 V SAT or 22 ACT (Navy) 22 ACT or 1000 SAT or ASVAB: 74 (USMC) 31 Oct (Early Board: USMC) 31 Jan (National Board: Navy and USMC) Air Force Air Force ROTC scholarships are distributed by major. You may attend any one of 1000 colleges nationwide that offers AFROTC & has approved scholarship major. Must be approved by the USAF 1100 SAT (M & V only) or 24 ACT Dec 1st

6 5 Military Service Academies General Information: Vigorous academic, athletic, and military training that concentrates on leadership and character development Choice of 30+ majors Consistently ranked in the top of US News & World Report s America s Best Colleges Graduates receive a B. S. degree (valued at more than $400,000) Qualifications: Be at least 17 but not older than 23 on the day they begin basic training Not be married, pregnant, or legally responsible for support of any children Be in good physical and mental health Pass a medical exam Above-average strength, endurance and agility Basic Application Steps: 1. Initiate contact with your local Admissions Liaison Officer (AF an Army) or Blue and Gold Officer (Navy and Marines) 2. Apply on line to one or more service academies 3. Apply for a nomination to all sources (Congressional Representative, both Senators, and Vice President) before mid-october 4. Take standardized college entrance exams: ACT (including the writing section) and/or SAT 5. Complete medical exam for Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) 6. Prepare for and complete Candidate Fitness Assessment 7. Arrange for a candidate tour
