4 Economic Conditions and foreclosures have led to a severe spike in pets being left behind. Shelters and animal rescues are overwhelmed and need our support. We have chosen the West End Shelter for Animals in Ontario (again) to sponsor for our Winter Fundraiser because of their dedication and long history of making a difference for thousands of our furry friends. Vendors who pledge at least $100 (cash or check) will have 6 months of free advertising at the brand new HavenManagement.net website (in our links section) from January 1, 2009 June 30, 2009!!! Damen Perry Office Manager/Webmaster & Director of Marketing for Haven Management LLC Please read the following excerpt from the West End website: Redevelopment and Image Make-Over Long Overdue For Local Shelter ( Ontario, CA ) Long-standing West End Animal Shelter is set to benefit from both redevelopment and a much needed awareness campaign. West End Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no kill center for pet placement and adoption located in Ontario, California. It is located near the corner of Mission and Grove Avenue in the heart of the new redevelopment plan for Ontario. The campaign includes redevelopment and upgrading existing conditions at the shelter, implementing fundraising and awareness both locally and nationally - via the internet, to inform and educate the community on the shelter s many long-standing services, where approximately 200 homeless dogs and cats await placement today. West End Animal Shelter owns the land it resides on and has a five-year plan to renovate existing buildings, which have housed cats and dogs since 1954, and although maintained well, are worn with age. A centerpiece of their five-year plan is to build a 2 story building with 6,000 square feet per floor. The first floor is planned to house the main entrance of the Animal Shelter with the larger portion housing an animal hospital. The hospital will be designed with exam rooms, waiting areas, and a veterinarian s office. The second floor will contain shelter administrative offices, a large classroom area and public meeting rooms for the community. Local schools could use the location for a field trip destination, as well as after school interaction. The five year plan will begin by evaluating existing facilities and prioritizing facilities development requirements both for the long term, year five and beyond, and the immediate needs of the daily operation of the Shelter. Local creative agency Perry Design & Advertising in Rancho Cucamonga is pleased to be working with the Shelter s board of directors on a new pro-bono brand imagery 4

5 campaign that will spur awareness, in coordination with the redevelopment phase. The branding campaign will promote adoption, featuring real-life adoption stories and imagery with a heart-felt message of hope. In addition, promote the shelters other services. The agency is striving to start this campaign as early as 2008, but only with the help of donated advertising space from a mix of local media venues such as newsprint, magazines, targeted publications, online, outdoor and other specialized outlets. Partner Angelique Strahan said, With the business climate how it is today, we hope to call upon our relationships with media partners, creative resources to give back to the community in anyway we can, and choosing a non-profit that s close to your heart is a perfect example of reaching out and making a difference. West End Shelter for Animals is a non-profit, no kill center for pet placement and adoption located in Ontario, California. Last year they found homes for more than 800 pets. Through referrals, internet website, and other outreach programs, they have had great success finding new homes for pets all over Southern California. The West End Shelter for Animals is located at 1010 East Mission Boulevard, in Ontario, California. The Shelter was organized in 1954 by a group of local residents as the Humane Society of Chaffee Community. It eventually became a no kill, non-profit organization. Today we call it a pet placement and adoption center where sociable homeless dogs and cats await placement. These animals are surrendered by owners who can no longer keep them for one reason or another. They also rescue a number of them from County shelters where they await euthanasia due to pet overpopulation. All animals are spayed and neutered, current on shots, dewormed and flea treated before adoption. Cats are tested for FELV and FIV. The shelter can provide temporary homes for up to 200 dogs and cats. The shelter has 6 paid employees, 5 directors and a number of regular and occasional volunteers. Regular volunteers see to it that pets receive socialization such as going out in large pens to be with other dogs and taking those much needed walks with people. Volunteers let the cats run free in the cat building while their rooms are cleaned. They can socialize and wonder outside in an outdoor area enclosed by a Purr fect Fence, donated by that company. The cat building houses 38 individual feline flats, each with a window that make up this unique cat oasis, complete with furnishings such as cat trees, beds, and toys while they await adoption. 5
