1 9 th LIFE HAWAII NO-KILL CAT RESCUE & SANCTUARY A non-profit 501C3 Organization-Donations are tax deductible Dedicated to the Protection of Cats in Hawaii Run Solely by Volunteers Your entire donation goes to help the cats! A few of the 120 orphan kittens we rescued. They ranged from newborn to about one pound. Most of them would have been killed because they weighed less than 1 ½ pounds, therefore considered unadoptable at Maui Humane Society. Your donations and our intervention saved their lives. All are now available for adoption. Call to make an appointment to see them. HAVE YOU BEEN LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES? CALL TO MEET OUR ADOPTABLE PURR BABIES We still have about 50 of the 120 orphan and homeless kittens we rescued. COME VISIT US AT 9 th LIFE HAWAII S SANCTUARY MEMORIAL & HONORARIUM DONATIONS 9 th Life and the animals on Maui have lost a dearly-loved Samaritan and great friend. Edie Kamana passed in July and she will be sorely missed but her great love and compassion for animals will not be forgotten. To her family, we extend our condolences. Your loss is shared by many. Edie would have been happy to know that her last donation was used to sterilize many cats. Mahalo for Joseph Scuro s donation in loving memory of Samantha Sue & Sweetness aka Walter. Mahalo to Roslyn Hirschhorn in memory of her beloved husband, Kenny. Received a generous donation from Judi Highland in memory of Buddy Mahalo. In memory of Sweetness from Sam, Salem & Popoki. We thank you for helping Maui s kitties in this manner. PAGE ONE OF FIVE
2 OUR SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS We shelter over 250 cats & have surpassed the 1,800 mark for cats we have sterilized since We held another mass clinic in July & Dr. Tess Peavy sterilized 114 cats. Volunteers transported cats from all over Maui to 9 th Life s surgery room and helped during surgery, recovery, ear-notching & micro-chipping. A big Mahalo to everyone who was part of this clinic and to Dr. Tess and her family for their caring and high professional standards of vet care. Dr. Jeff Young is returning for a 4-day clinic at the 9 th Life sanctuary in September. Dr. Jeff headed a team of 3 vets last January sterilizing 459 cats for us. His return will be a big help to us as Maui Humane Society offered a one time only deal where we were able to sterilize just 53 of the 120+ orphans we rescued from them. Maui Humane Society is unwilling to help us sterilize the rest although we are still taking in orphan kitties from them. Obviously this leaves us with a huge expense to sterilize the remainder. OUR MISSION 9 th Life Hawaii is the undisputed leader of the NO KILL revolution on Maui. The time has come to stop the killing of dogs and cats for population control. It certainly has not worked and it is WRONG! No Kill, No More Homeless Pets is achievable. Our vision of a No Kill island and then island by island a No Kill State is possible. Mahalo for sharing our vision. And remember it is YOUR donations that make this possible. From this To this Note: New roof, doors & steps Our isolation building is just about completed. This was a huge community effort and we would like to thank a few more volunteers & donors: Paul Scalici of Affordable Electrical and Plumbing. Paul does great work and can be reached at Toni & Don Cole donated tile. Harriet Takita donated roofing material. John Petersen, UpCountry Remodeling, donated carpentry, drywall work, built the stairs & installed a window. Russell Wilson & Craig Halley donated and installed the doors. Mahalo! All we need now is siding or shingles for the sides of the building. Call if you can donate siding or shingles. PAGE TWO OF FIVE
3 HOW YOUR DONATIONS HELP! Simba, 15 years young. Ear Cancer almost to the brain. Dr. Dennis Brown, Animal Care Hospital-Kula did the surgery, (a superb job) removed all the cancer and saved Simba s life. Orphan Bottle Babies Below- rescued by 9 th Life LaBoca-below. This sweet one-eyed boy is still available for adoption to an indoor only home. CALL IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING PAGE THREE OF FIVE
