1 Prepare for installation Before mounting and configuring DPS1000 Series, consider the following so that you can make more informed choices about your deployment. Secure the management port on a separate LAN The DPS1100 has two iscsi ports, one of which must be used as a Management port. The DPS1200 has three Ethernet ports: two iscsi ports for initiators and one Management port. To better secure the Management port, consider connecting it to a separate local area network (LAN). Choose a location DPS1000 Series must be mounted in a rack. The DPS1100 model is 1U, the DPS1200 model is 2U, and the DPS Expansion Module storage enclosures are 2U each. When considering the installation location, note the following guidelines: Place the appliance and its components near a grounded power outlet (110/220V). Make sure the location is a clean, dust-free area that is well ventilated. Avoid areas where heat, electrical noise, and electromagnetic fields are generated. Obtain tools and supplies for installation You may need the following items to complete the installation instructions: #2 Phillips screwdriver Level Pliers Tape measure One of the following to access the command line interface and set up DPS1000 Series: Terminal or a computer running a terminal emulation program Keyboard and monitor, plus a VGA cable to connect the monitor to DPS1000 Series Ethernet cables: One (1) Ethernet cable if initiators, a network port, or an Ethernet switch will be connected to a single iscsi port Two (2) Ethernet cables if initiators, a network port, or an Ethernet switch will be connected to both iscsi ports Gather network information After you mount and cable the hardware, you must configure its network settings. If you do not plan to use DHCP, gather the following information: Management network interface address A valid, unique, static IP address for the management network interface (Management port), which enables the appliance and web interface to interact. Management network interface netmask The netmask that corresponds to the management network interface IP address. Gateway address IP address of the network gateway for the appliance. 2 DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide

2 Unpack the hardware Unpack all hardware: A. Unpack all hardware and retain packing materials. B. Inspect the hardware and the contents of the box(es). If damage is apparent, contact Support. C. Place hardware on a flat, stable work surface. Always lift the DPS1000 Series appliance and the tape library by the sides. Because the hardware is heavy, it is recommended that you use an assistant when lifting it. Confirm that you received these DPS1000 Series components, in addition to this guide and the appliance: Serial cable (RS-232, 3 meters / 10 feet) Ethernet cable (3 meters / 10 feet) Power cords for each region (North America, Europe, United Kingdom): one each for the DPS1100 model and two each for the DPS1200 model Bezel with two keys Rail kit: 2 sets of mounting rails 6 mounting ears 22 M4 screws (short, round-head) for the DPS1100 model, or 14 M4 screws for the DPS1200 model 8 M5 screws (long, flat-head) 8 washers (for the M5 screws) 4 sets of cage nuts and bolts, to be used for racks with square holes DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide 3

3 Mount the DPS1100 appliance in a rack The assembly procedure may differ slightly depending on the rack unit. If you are mounting the DPS1200, skip to Mount the DPS1200 appliance in a rack on page 6. Identify the sections of the rack rails Each rack rail assembly consists of two sections: an inner fixed chassis rail that secures directly to the server chassis and an outer fixed rack rail that secures directly to the rack. Two pairs of short brackets to be used on the front side of the outer rails are also included. Install the outer rails A. Measure the distance from the front rail to the rear rail of the rack. B. Attach a short bracket to the front side of the right outer rail and a long bracket to the rear side of the right outer rail. C. Adjust the short and long brackets to the proper distance so that the rail can fit snugly into the rack. D. Secure the short bracket to the front side of the outer rail with two screws and the long bracket to the rear side of the outer rail with three screws. 4 DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide

E. Repeat these steps for the left outer rail. Note that the chassis rails have locking tabs, which lock the server into place when installed and pushed fully into the rack. These tabs also lock the server in place when fully extended from the rack. This prevents the server from coming out of the rack when you pull it out for servicing. Install the server in the rack A. Line up the rear of the chassis rails with the front of the rack rails. B. Slide the chassis rails into the rack rails, keeping the pressure even on both sides. You may have to depress the locking tabs when inserting. When the server is pushed completely into the rack, the locking tabs click. DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide 5

4 Mount the DPS1200 appliance in a rack The assembly procedure may differ slightly depending on the rack unit. Identify the sections of the rack rails Two of the rack rail sections secure directly to the server and the third (which consists of two joined sections) secures directly to the rack itself. Use the diagrams in the following sections to determine which rail section to attach to the front of the chassis and which rail section to attach to the rear of the chassis. (The longer rail section is the front section. The third rail section attaches to the rack.) Install the chassis rails You may need to perform these steps if the front (inner) chassis rail sections are not preinstalled. A. Position the front and rear chassis rail sections along the side of the server, and make sure that the screw holes line up. Note that these two rails are left and right specific. B. Screw the front chassis rail (the long section) securely to the side of the chassis. There should be two screws for each side. C. Repeat these steps for the other rail on the opposite side of the chassis. 6 DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide

D. Attach the rear chassis rails to the chassis in the same manner. Again, keep in mind that the rails are left and right specific. Note that the front chassis rails and the rack rails have locking tabs, which lock the server into place when installed and pushed fully into the rack. They also lock the server in place when fully extended from the rack. This prevents the server from coming out of the rack when you pull it out for servicing. Install the rack rails A. Position the fixed rack rail and sliding rail guide assemblies (made up of two inter-locking sections) at the desired location in the rack, keeping the sliding rail guide facing the inside of the rack and the rollers facing toward the front of the rack. B. Screw the assembly securely to the rack. C. Attach the other assembly to the other side of the rack, making sure both are at the same height with the rail guides facing inward. DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide 7

Install the server in the rack A. Line up the rear of the chassis rails with the front of the rack rails. B. Slide the chassis rails into the rack rails, keeping the pressure even on both sides (you may have to depress the locking tabs when inserting). When the server is pushed completely into the rack, you should hear the locking tabs click. C. Insert and tighten the thumbscrews that hold the front of the server to the rack. 5 Cable the appliance You must connect the following: The supplied serial cable to DPS1000 Series to enable access to the command line interface The supplied Ethernet cable to connect DPS1000 Series to the network One or two Ethernet cables to connect initiators The supplied power cord(s) to DPS1000 Series to power it on The following graphics show the back of the DPS1000 Series appliances and the ports and power connections. 8 DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide

Safety guidelines To reduce the risk of bodily injury, electrical shock, fire, and damage to the equipment, observe the following precautions. This equipment must be installed by trained service personnel in a restricted-access location, as defined by UL and IEC 60950, The Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment. Refer to the DPS1000 Series Installation Guide for system specifications. Electrical safety precautions Basic electrical safety precautions should be followed to protect you from harm and the system from damage: Be aware of the locations of the on/off switch on the chassis as well as the room's emergency power-off switch, disconnection switch or electrical outlet(s). The on/off switch does not disconnect power to the chassis. If an electrical accident occurs, quickly remove power to the system by removing the plug(s) from the outlet(s). Some models may have multiple power cords which connect to more than one outlet. The power supply power cords must include a grounding pin and must be plugged into grounded electrical outlets. When a power cord is not packaged with the equipment, the local installer is to select approved detachable power cords, suitable for the current and voltage ratings of the equipment When working around high voltage electrical circuits, another person who is familiar with the power-off controls should be nearby to switch off (or remove) power to the chassis if necessary. Power should always be disconnected from the system when removing or installing main system components, such as the boards, memory modules, DVD-ROM, and floppy drives (not necessary for hot swappable drives). When disconnecting power, you should first power down the system with the operating system and then unplug the power cords of all the power supply units in the system. Use only one hand when working with powered-on electrical equipment. This is to avoid making a complete circuit, which will cause electrical shock. Use extreme caution when using metal tools, which can easily damage electrical components or circuit boards they come into contact with. Do not use mats designed to decrease electrostatic discharge as protection from electrical shock. Instead, use rubber mats that have been specifically designed as electrical insulators. DVD-ROM Laser: CAUTION - this server may have come equipped with a DVD-ROM drive. To prevent direct exposure to the laser beam and hazardous radiation exposure, do not open the enclosure or use the unit in any unconventional way. Do not work alone when working with high voltage components. Mainboard replaceable soldered-in fuses: Self-resetting PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) fuses on the mainboard must be replaced by trained service technicians only. The new fuse must be the same or equivalent as the one replaced. DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide 15

General safety precautions Follow these rules to ensure general safety: Keep the area around the system clean and free of clutter. The system is heavy. When lifting the system, two people at either end should lift slowly with their feet spread out to distribute the weight. Always keep your back straight and lift with your legs. Place the chassis top cover and any system components that have been removed away from the system or on a table so that they will not accidentally be stepped on. While working on the system, do not wear loose clothing such as neckties and unbuttoned shirt sleeves, which can come into contact with electrical circuits or be pulled into a cooling fan. Remove any jewelry or metal objects from your body, which are excellent metal conductors that can create short circuits and harm you if they come into contact with printed circuit boards or areas where power is present. After accessing the inside of the system, close the system back up and secure it to the rack unit with the retention screws after ensuring that all connections have been made. ESD precautions Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is generated by two objects with different electrical charges coming into contact with each other. An electrical discharge is created to neutralize this difference, which can damage electronic components and printed circuit boards. The following measures are generally sufficient to neutralize this difference before contact is made to protect your equipment from ESD: Use a grounded wrist strap designed to prevent static discharge. Keep all components and printed circuit boards (PCBs) in their antistatic bags until ready for use. Touch a grounded metal object before removing the board from the antistatic bag. Do not let components or PCBs come into contact with your clothing, which may retain a charge even if you are wearing a wrist strap. Handle a board by its edges only; do not touch its components, peripheral chips, memory modules or contacts. When handling chips or modules, avoid touching their pins. Put the serverboard and peripherals back into their antistatic bags when not in use. For grounding purposes, make sure your computer chassis provides excellent conductivity between the power supply, the case, the mounting fasteners and the serverboard. Operating precautions Care must be taken to assure that the chassis cover is in place when the ShareLoader is operating to assure proper cooling. Out of warranty damage to the system can occur if this practice is not strictly followed. CAUTION When installing the serverboard battery, there is a danger of explosion if the onboard battery is installed upside down, which will reverse its polarities (see figure). The battery must be replaced only with the same or an equivalent type 16 DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide

recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions. Provide input power to the system by plugging the power cord(s) from the power supply unit(s) into a high-quality power strip that offers protection from electrical noise and power surges. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is recommended. DPS1000 Series Quick Setup Guide 17
