Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI). Please note that the RCBI Welding Technology Program is not an open enrollment program. An entrance assessment is administered and evaluated to determine an applicant s eligibility to enroll in the program. In this packet you will find: A check-off sheet of information you need to provide. An application for the RCBI Welding Technology Program. An overview of the Program. A course summary. Please use the check-off sheet as you gather information or complete a task that is requested for consideration in the program and return the completed check-off sheet with the application. Please complete the RCBI application in full. If any of the information requested on the application does not apply to you, fill in the blank with NA (Not Applicable). Read the fact sheet carefully. It explains: Testing to American Welding Standards. Hours required for Associate of Applied Science Degree. The length of the program. Contact Information. All applicants are required to submit their high school transcripts, college transcripts and attendance records. In addition, applicants are required to take an entrance assessment and interview with RCBI staff. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing The RCBI Welding Technology Program Welding Technology Program Huntington, West Virginia Prepares individuals to meet the rigorous demands of the manufacturing sector. Is available to all individuals, employed individuals, veterans and dislocated workers. Is designed in accordance with standards and workforce practices of the manufacturing industry. The RCBI program offers Technical courses including shielded metal arc welding, stick pipe welding, gas metal and flux cored welding, blueprint reading, welding theory, computer literacy, mathematics, communication and organizational skills, safety and computer aided design. Specialized training in a hands-on laboratory setting. Students will have the ability to read symbols and blueprints that apply to welding. Upon completion of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), students should be able to perform production welding, millwright and general maintenance welding. Upon completion of the Stick Pipe Welding, students will have the skills to pass the 6G weld test to ASME & AWS standards. It involves 186 hours of booth instruction lecture and practice. Upon completion of the Gas Metal and Flux Cored (GMAW and FCAW), students will have developed welding skills on carbon steels using small and large diameter flux-cored electrodes (with and without shielding gas) in all positions on fillet and groove welds. This class involves booth instruction, lecture and practice. An opportunity to earn an Associate Degree. You must be admitted to the Mountwest Community & Technical College (MCTC) to be eligible for the Associate Degree option. Sixty (60) credit hours will be awarded by MCTC for all the RCBI welding courses and the required general education classes. End of course tests are to AWS standards. Certified AWS test sites can be found at RCBI program facts RCBI utilizes state-of-the-industry classrooms and shop-floor labs for individuals enrolled in the program. RCBI has a staff of experienced welders to teach welding skills and supervise the hands-on laboratory set up in a shop-floor environment. Class sizes are kept small, affording each student individual attention and meaningful interaction with our experienced instructors. The length of the program is four semesters. Program cost is based on tuition rates and lab fee established by Mountwest Community &. Financial assistance may be available through the Mountwest Community & for those who qualify. Classes are conducted at the RCBI Huntington Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center at 1050 Fourth Avenue and the Cabell County Career Technology Center in Huntington at 1035 Norway Avenue.
