Please note that your admission depends on the acceptation of your learning agreement by the School of Medicine and Dentistry in Valencia (Facultat de Medicina i Odontologia de la Universitat de València): Before you send our online Application From learning agreement, please read our Study Plan. Then, you will be ready to fill in your learning agreements properly. Please, notice that it is not possible to arrange practical clinical work in each subject. We would therefore like to remind all international relations offices that your medical students are not allowed to ask directly for clinical practices at any public hospital in Valencia, if they need our university s certificate afterwards. The legal and administrative problems this situation might create, whether or not they are students registered at the University of Valencia, are very serious. Any task carried out by a medical student has a social responsibility that has to be backed by an institution, and that means a written permission from both home and host international coordinators. We hope this will settle all misunderstandings about any medical student coming to Valencia. We welcome all international students, and expect from them due respect to our administrative and academic procedures. 4 1. Admissions and acceptance for exchange Students by the Medical and Dentistry School of the University of Valencia. Please, read carefully. To be an Erasmus student you must be aware of the following: Receipt of application forms prior to June 15 th is mandatory. Due to the high demand, 6 th year clinical practices and just second semester students will not be accepted. Erasmus+ has an specific training programme. A group of local students will assist with advice, and general information for incoming students. It is highly recommended that foreign students have an appropriate knowledge of the Spanish language (B1). See section 3.c, improve your Spanish. Period of stay: Medicine A minimum of four months for 1 st semester and a maximum of ten for annual students. Dentistry only admits annual students for 9 months. Extension Periods: only until the 30 th July. Exams will take place during the dates established by the local academy committee (see section 1.b academic calendar). Learning Agreements: Should be elaborated according to the new study programme in which, with few exceptions, subjects are now divided into the first and the second semester/terms (please check programmes of the Medical and Dentistry School). Medical students are advised to send a LA scanned draft to exteriores.medicina@uv.esto check its feasibility before final signatures. You can use the template included on page 31. Changes to original Learning Agreements can be made before mid October for the 1 st semester subjects, and mid March for second semester subjects. Check academic calendar. Any change of Learning Agreements must be approved by both coordinators. Acceptance: the number of students accepted will be strictly limited to those approved by the respective University s bilateral agreement under the areas Medicine Erasmus code 12.1, ISCED 721 Dentistry Erasmus code 12.3, ISCED 724 Clinical training. 6 th year (Practicum). We deeply regret to inform you that due to the limited number of places available, year 6 practicum students will not be accepted andneither extra clinical practices will be organized,nor special arrangements, and students are not allowed to ask for them at any public hospital. Your home university must first check with its National Erasmus Agency and make the necessary arrangements to place their students directly with the institutions or hospitals they have previously made contact with. Our is not responsible for it. plus/index_en.htm 1.a. Administrative Procedures. Medical and dentistry students: Specific Information for Students If you want to study at the university of Valencia with the Erasmus+ Programme, the first step is to check if there is a bilateral agreement between your home university and the University of Valencia in the field of your degree. Otherwise, you cannot come as an Erasmus student. Requirements Between both your home university and the Universitat de València there should be a bilateral agreement in the field you wish to study in Valencia. Your home university must send us your nomination, confirming us that you have been granted the status of an Erasmus student. Application After receiving your nomination, the international relations central office will check if you can be accepted according to our bilateral agreement and send you an e mail with your password. 6 Please remember: There will be no admissions for just second semester for medical students. Dentistry only admits annual students. Late arrivals (after 30th September) will not have their placement for all subjects included in LAs guaranteed. Matriculation will be reserved exclusively to those subjects that appear in the Definitive Learning Agreement, or an approved modification. 1.b. Academic calendar and timetables. Please check our Medical and Dentistry School web page, odontologia/en/facultat medicina odontologia html Timetables are organized by groups: ARA in Spanish and/or English, A, B or C stands for courses offered in Spanish, V in Catalán Valenciano. The academic calendar generally consist of two semesters, 1 st semester starting on September and ending with the exams in January, and a second semester starting on February with exams on June. Retake exams are held on July. We have holidays on Christmas, Fallas (16 19 th March) and Easter. What time? Timetables consist of lessons (1hr) at 08:00, 13:00 and 14:00, and practical sessions from 09:00 to 13:00. Some subjects (optional ones) have their classes on the afternoons (ranging from 16:00 to 19:00). Where? Steps to be followed when you arrive in Valencia First step: Arrival If you are an Erasmus student coming to the Blasco Ibáñez Campus, you should present yourself at the International Relations Central Office, Av. Menéndez Pelayo, 3, Ground Floor, Valencia, to register your arrival as soon as you get to Valencia. You will be provided with a Certificate of Arrival and useful information about the University. We are sorry to say that crowded line ups and waiting time are commonplace in the days prior to the start of the academic year. To avoid this as far as possible, you can make an appointment beforehand by selecting the date and time to come to the International Relations central Office. You will be able to apply for an appointment. You will have to use this form, where you will enter your e mail address (the one that your home university gave us) in the corresponding field and click on the magnifying glass on the right to get your data. Your names are partially hidden for your security. Choose the date carefully as you can apply only for one appointment. Students without appointment will be attended by the International Relations Office in the order determined by the numbered ticket dispenser situated in the office hall. To take a ticket you must first select the INCOMING STUDENTS option. However, we cannot assure that you will be attended on that same day, as our service capacity is limited. We thus recommend that appointments be made beforehand. Second step: Confirm your LA (Learning Agreement) The Exchange Coordinator for your field of studies will assist you with academic issues and the confirmation of your Learning Agreement. Remember that you must bring an initial proposal, signed by the academic coordinator from your home university. Here you will find a list of the UV academic / departmental coordinators. Third step: Enrolling At your home university or faculty you will have been given instructions regarding the procedure for enrolling in the courses that you decide to take at the University of Valencia. Enrolling usually takes place one or two weeks after the beginning of classes so that students can be sure of the courses they wish to take. However, you are free to attend all the classes you wish until you enroll. Remember that it is compulsory that students enroll for at least 50% of their credits in the same field of study and in the faculty to which you have been nominated by your home university. In some cases you will have to take along two passport sized pictures (3x3 cm) and a photocopy of your passport or identity card so that your student card can be generated. This card will entitle you to full library services and discounts (sports centre, theatres, museums, etc). You will also receive a username and password for your UV online student account with which you will be able to access online services and your personal account. You will also be given a bill (to be paid at any bank or financial institution) for the amount of around 8 Euros (administrative charges). exteriores.medicina@uv.es Página 7 de 35

Libraries The University of Valencia has three different campuses: Tarongers (Social Sciences Campus, next to the Polytechnic University of Valencia), Burjassot (Science Campus), and Blasco Ibáñez (Humanities and Medicine and Dentistry Campus). Each campus has its own library. Medical students should refer to the Health Sciences Library Two weeks after enrolment, students will receive their student card (carnet universitario), an electronic card which allows them access to different library services, which will be either sent to the address given at enrolment, or picked up at the Faculty. exteriores.medicina@uv.es Página 10 de 35

Study plans Next academic year, our old Study Programme Licenciatura en Medicina will definitively be replaced by the new Degree in Medicine. You should first find out whether your home institution has a bilateral agreement with our university for your field of studies. Furthermore, you will have to be selected by your university. Please ask your International Relations Office for more information Can I go as a free mover student? From on, you will be able to attend the UV during a temporary academic stay if you: are enrolled in a university of another country with which the UV has not signed any agreement or mobility programme. have received from your home university a document authorizing you to study courses at the UV. have been accepted by the UV academic coordinator responsible for the degree you would like to study at the UV. pay the public fees according to the number of credits you will enroll in You can be an incoming free mover student only for one academic year. It will be not possible for you to obtain an official degree from the UV. Currently you cannot yet apply for a free mover stay. The information about this will be published later on How can I enroll as an ordinary (not exchange) student? You can find information about admissions at: html 7.4. I need to know the courses and timetables offered by the faculty where I will be studying. Please check: Can I take courses that I am interested in but are unrelated to my major? Erasmus and International students must take most of their courses, at least 50%, within the agreed areas of study specified in the bilateral agreement. Students can enroll on courses from other fields of study, as long as the number of vacancies or any other restrictions allow it Where can I find the course programmes? Please check: oordinadores_titulacion.pdf 7.8. How can I know that I have been accepted by the UV? You will receive an e mail from the UV indicating you how to process the application. Once your application has been accepted, you will be able to access your Acceptance Letter Are there any language requirements in order to be accepted at the University ofvalencia? No, certificates are not requested. However, it is advisable for students to have at least a basic level of Spanish before coming to our university, since our classes are taught mainly in Spanish. Catalan (Valencian) can also help. In addition, students are encouraged to take the Spanish intensive course in September before the beginning of classes and/or apply for the EILC (Catalan) Are there any lectures held in English? The Faculties of Medicine, Economics, Law, Pharmacy and Psychology offer some courses in English. You should contact your UV coordinator for further information Where can I find the academic calendar? For more information, contact your home institution coordinator / office Are there any Spanish language courses for exchange students at the University of Valencia? If you want to take Spanish language courses, our Language Centre offers a special discount to any Erasmus student. You do not need any certificate to get this discount. The International Relations Office will provide the Centre d Idiomes a list of accepted Erasmus students. Contact: secretaria@centreidiomes.es Is there an online application for the UV? Yes. Once your home institution has sent us correctly your nomination as an exchange student, you will get an e mail with instructions on how to fill in the online application form I have received an e mail with instructions on how to fill in the online application form. Which is the deadline to send it? Fall semester or whole year (starting in September): 10th July. Spring semester (starting in February): 10th December. 30 7.16. I still do not have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). What can I do? If you still do not have the EHIC because you can only apply for it a little time before coming to Valencia, try to send us any receipt of your application for it. You should bring your EHIC with you or else a private health insurance card, otherwise you will not be registered. In both cases, your health insurance has to cover the full length of your stay in Spain Do I need a visa during my stay in Valencia? Citizens of any State of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein only require a National Identity Card or valid passport. Students from non EUcountries do need a visa, which must be arranged before their entrance to Spain. More information: diar.aspx Which is the recommended date of arrival? We suggest that you come about a week before the start of the semester in order to find accommodation and attend the information sessions I might be arriving after the course has started. Is this a problem? It depends on your UV coordinator. We suggest you contact him/her if you are planning a late arrival I am a special needs student because I am disabled / I suffer from a chronic illness. Who can I contact about this? You can contact our Unit for Integration of People with Disabilities at integracion@uv.es. Please specify your needs and they will arrange things so that you will be able to study with us as comfortably as possible How can I get my Transcript Of Records/grades? The "Secretaría" of the Faculty/School where you enrolled will send your TOR to your home University coordinator.
