4 AEE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS The Association of Energy Engineers administers a number of certification programs which enable professionals to receive recognition for their expertise in specialized areas of the energy field. All AEE certification programs require the meeting of specific educational and/or experience requirements, as well as the passing of an examination. Certification application fees are in addition to fees for associated preparatory seminars presented in this catalog. The certifications currently offered by AEE are described below. CERTIFIED ENERGY MANAGER As AEE s first and most widely recognized professional certification, the CEM credential is now used by many corporations and government agencies as a prerequisite in job descriptions for energy management related positions. Earning the right to put the initials CEM behind your name gives you many advantages in advancing your career. AEE currently offers four preparatory seminars for those wishing to prepare for the CEM exam. (See pages 8, 10, 11, and 28.) Students and others who can pass the CEM exam, but do not meet other criteria for the CEM credential, may apply for Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) certification. For more information, visit CERTIFIED ENERGY AUDITOR AEE s Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) certification identifies professionals as having the required knowledge and experience needed to succeed in the growing field of energy auditing. AEE s CEA training seminars provide an excellent preparatory tool for the CEA exam. (See pages 13 and 29.) TM ENERGY EFFICIENCY PRACTITIONER The EEP program is designed to help educate and qualify new and recent entrants into the energy management field in best practices for improving energy efficiency. The program serves as a fundamental building block for additional professional development such as obtaining the CEM or BEP designations. AEE offers a preparatory seminar for those seeking certification and planning to sit for the EEP exam. (See pages 20 and 28.) RENEWABLE ENERGY PROFESSIONAL The Renewable Energy Professional (REP) certification recognizes the expertise of professionals involved in the specification and application of renewable energy technologies, assessment of renewable energy projects, and development of achievable sustainability goals for organizations. AEE s REP training seminars provide an excellent resource for those preparing to sit for the REP exam. (See pages 16 and 30.) CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL AEE s Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP) provides recognition for professionals who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the sustainable development field, having demonstrated high levels of technical expertise in energy management, renewable energy, and environmental practices. AEE provides a refresher course for those preparing to sit for the CSDP examination. (See page 30.) CERTIFIED CARBON & GHG REDUCTION MANAGER AEE s Certified Carbon & GHG Reduction Manager (CRM) certification recognizes the expertise of professionals who have special knowledge in the area of facilitating organizations with the goal of becoming as carbon neutral as possible. 5 CERTIFIED BUILDING COMMISSIONING PROFESSIONAL The process of building commissioning has continued to gain momentum over the last several years. AEE s CBCP program is designed to recognize the most qualified professionals in this growing area. Two seminars are offered as preparatory vehicles for those taking the CBCP exam. (See page 17.) EXISTING BUILDING COMMISSIONING PROFESSIONAL AEE s Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP) certification provides recognition for qualified professionals with expertise in the area of retrofitting existing buildings into more sustainable, efficient facilities while meeting existing building commissioning criteria. The preparatory seminar Fundamentals of Existing Building Commissioning serves as a refresher program for EBCP exam candidates. (See page 18.) CERTIFIED MEASUREMENT & VERIFICATION PROFESSIONAL Jointly developed by AEE and the EVO, the Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) certification program is offered with the dual purpose of recognizing the most qualified professionals in this growing area of the energy industry and raising the overall professional standards within the M&V field. AEE offers an excellent training seminar for those preparing to take the CMVP exam. (See page 15.) PERFORMANCE CONTRACTING & FUNDING PROFESSIONAL The Certified Performance Contracting and Funding (PCF) certification establishes and recognizes the expertise of professionals engaged in performance contracting, energy project funding and financing. The Essentials of Performance Contracting & Energy Project Funding seminar provides preparatory training for those seeking PCF certification and preparing for the PCF exam. (See page 12.) BUILDING ENERGY SIMULATION ANALYST AEE s BESA certification is designed to recognize individuals with special expertise in the area of utilizing building energy simulation software to assess a facility s energy performance. The Fundamentals of Building Energy Simulation seminar offers a preparatory vehicle for those seeking BESA certification and preparing for the BESA examination. (See page 19.) CERTIFIED LIGHTING EFFICIENCY PROFESSIONAL The designation CLEP identifies persons who have achieved a high level of proficiency in the area of lighting efficiency, codes and standards, lighting controls, lighting system maintenance, current technologies, and lighting economics. AEE s Fundamentals of Lighting Efficiency seminar is an excellent prep tool for the CLEP exam. (See pages 14 and 32.) CERTIFIED BUSINESS ENERGY PROFESSIONAL The designation BEP is intended to recognize the achievements of those who are involved in the non-technical side of the energy management profession, including those who supervise and manage technical professionals in energy, interface with customers as utility account representatives, and market energy-efficient products. AEE provides a refresher course for those preparing to sit for the BEP exam. (See pages 21 and 28.) AEE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS 5

6 CERTIFIED ENERGY PROCUREMENT PROFESSIONAL An increasing number of individuals have developed specialized expertise on both the purchasing side and the selling side of the energy marketplace. AEE s CEP professional certification provides a defined standard against which this expertise may be established and demonstrated. AEE provides a three-day training program for CEP candidates. (See page 22.) DISTRIBUTED GENERATION CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL The earning of the DGCP credential requires the demonstration of a comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and laws which apply to the field of distributed generation and onsite power generation. DGCPs include engineers, managers, attorneys, consultants, and others with a broad base of distributed generation-related experience. AEE offers a training seminar for DGCP candidates. (See page 23.) CERTIFIED POWER QUALITY PROFESSIONAL The CPQ professional program has helped define standards within this increasingly important field, and to certify those who have demonstrated special expertise in the area of power quality and reliability. In addition to meeting professional qualifications and passing an exam, the CPQ certification also requires completion of a three-day training program. (See page 24.) CERTIFIED GEOEXCHANGE DESIGNER AEE s CGD program is designed to recognize professionals who have demonstrated high levels of expertise in applying the principles and practices of geothermal heat pump design and related disciplines. The CGD certification is granted by AEE and sponsored by the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium (GHPC). Associated training programs are presented by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA). USGBC/GBCI/CMP APPROVED COURSE AIA LEARNING UNITS ELIGIBLE COURSE ABOUT THE SEMINAR This special 5-day seminar provides an indepth, comprehensive learning and problemsolving forum for those who want a broader understanding of the latest energy cost reduction techniques and strategies. The program begins by examining the basic fundamentals within all key areas of energy management. From there, the instructors systematically move to a working level knowledge of the specific principles and techniques needed to really get the job done. This approach has been specially designed to fulfill the needs of professionals who seek a broader and more detailed learning experience than can be provided in AEE s shorter courses. CAPEHART, Ph.D., C.E.M., is a professor emeritus of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Florida, Gainesville. His broad experience in the field includes conducting over 200 industrial facilities audits. ERIC A. WOODROOF, Ph.D., C.E.M., is widely recognized both nationally and internationally for helping energy and environmental projects get approved and implemented. He brings to this program over 15 years of experience in energy management, consulting and training. He has written widely in the field, and chairs AEE's CRM certification board, and has been a board member for the CEM program since WARREN M. HEFFINGTON, Ph.D., P.E., C.E.M., is the founding director of the Industrial Assessment Center at Texas A&M University, which has provided over 450 industrial assessments. He is an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University, where he teaches a graduate course in industrial energy management.
