12 WELCOME TO INFORMATION ABOUT OBTAINING AN A.A. DEGREE IN NURSING AT CHABOT COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM (Hayward and extended campus in Livermore)

13 CHABOT COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM TWO CAMPUSES: Hayward Campus Main campus in Hayward Established in 1965 Accepts 40 Students each Fall semester (August) Livermore Campus Campus established in 2003 in a partnership with ValleyCare Health Systems Lectures are telecast and are interactive. Accepts 10 Students each Fall semester (August)

15 Background and Drug Screening Hospitals are requiring that nursing students complete the following which is required of all employees All students complete a background check for convictions of any crime (misdemeanor or felony) AND a 10 panel urine drug screen. A social security number is required. Depending on the conviction, the hospital may deny a student s access. If you have something in your past please get it expunged before applying. If a drug screen is POSITIVE for non-prescription drugs you will not be eligible for the program.

RN program: Sciences 4-5 sem units with lab Anatomy 1 Physiology 1 Microbiology 1 General Education English 1A Sociology 1 Psychology 1 Communication 1, 10, or 30 LVN to RN program: Sciences 4-5 sem units with lab Anatomy 1 Physiology 1 Microbiology LVN 30 unit option Physiology 1 Microbiology

17 PREREQUISITES Your are required to complete all pre-requisites prior to applying the nursing program. Completion date: Fall 2014 RN(Generic) December 31, 2013 Fall 2014 LVN July 31, 2014 You may only earn one C in the combined science pre-requisites. Science GPA required 2.5 The is NO RECENCY requirement for any courses completed. As long as you attended an ACCREDITED COLLEGE.

18 Combined Science Classes If taken as a combined Anatomy and Physiology, the course must have an A and B or 1 and 2 AND must be taken at the same college /university. All work in the science (or other courses) must be from an accredited college or university and the courses must be equivalent to Chabot courses. Example: Chabot Biology 50 is a combined A&P and will not meet the nursing requirement.

19 TRANSCRIPTS Do not order transcripts from Chabot College or Las Positas College we have transcripts from coursework taken at either college. ALL transcripts from other colleges MUST be MAILED to Chabot College Admissions and Records or included with your application. Hand carried transcripts or applications will not be accepted.

Complete Nursing Program Available through CLASS-Web -11/01/2013 until 01/31/2014 You may submit this application only once online. No changes will be accepted verbal or online. Duplicate submissions will void all submissions.

MAIL Confirmation page from online application and ALL official transcripts to the Chabot College Box 5 Nursing Application Hesperian Blvd. Hayward, CA Attn: Nursing Program Send Certified Mail with return receipt Transcripts must be SEALED in original school envelope to be official.

27 WHY DO I NEED TO SEE A COUNSELOR??? The counselor helps you identify the correct General Education courses you need to take for the A.A. in Nursing and. The counselor helps you get ready for completing the prerequisite science courses

28 WHAT HAPPENS TO MY TRANSCRIPTS? After you have requested the transcripts, verify on the Class-Web the official date of receipt or if transcripts are on file. Evaluations of will be completed only if ALL transcripts are received. Missing transcripts will disqualify student.

29 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER RN APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED? 31 Test of Essential Academic Skills TEAS This is a normed, standardized predictive test which examines concepts in basic English reading and comprehension, scientific reasoning, math, and spelling and punctuation. CA CHANCELLOR S OFFICE HAS APPROVED THE TEST for Version V beginning 01/01/2011

33 Below Passing If you do not pass the test you must remediate. Following successful remediation, the candidate must reapply to the nursing program (just as before) and be TEAStested again.

34 MORE ABOUT APPLYING AND BEING SELECTED In order to increase your chance of being admitted to a nursing program, you are encouraged to apply to several different Bay Area programs.

35 ADVANCED STANDING STUDENTS LVN RN students are admitted, spaceavailable, depending on prior coursework completed with a C or higher and completion of testing process

36 ADVANCED STANDING (LVN- RN Program) Applications are only available between March 1 and October 31. (on website) This is an onscreen application, must be completed, signed and mailed to Chabot College. ADVANCED STANDING all science prerequisites must be completed with C or above.

38 ADVANCED STANDING APPLICANTS 5. Purchase Guide to Advanced Placement Clinical Examination in College Bookstore Describes written validation tests, math calculations, hospital-based examination

39 Advanced Standing Ranking for Admission Advanced Standing candidates are evaluated on a case by case basis. 1. Priority given to Chabot students who left in good standing 2. LVNs who have completed the N70 series successfully, ATI testing and all skills exams. 3. Chabot students who left not in good standing

40 LVN s LVN--all sciences must be completed before being eligible to register for N70, 70L LVN if seeking AA, must complete Anatomy I or equivalent LVN Mandatory orientation to N70,70L for Fall 2014 December 10th 10:00 AM Room 2271 or in May TBA date and time

41 Advanced Standing--LVN LVN s MUST have a valid and current CA LVN license Minimum of one year work experience in California. Completed Pre-requisite Sciences Attended Mandatory Orientation Dec/May
