3 IMPORTANT PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU START It is essential you register your product at This product is supported by a free server until 2018 when the server availability will be reviewed and Friedland will contact you with an alternative option before this date. Your camera s device ID and password are provided on a small label applied on the network socket of the camera s cable. You will need this to view the camera. Also please peel away this label and apply it to page 30 of this manual for security purposes prior to installation. Please store this manual away in a safe place to protect the password details for future reference. Be sure to record the optional user ID and user password if setup on page 30 of this manual System requirements Supported Smartphones: iphone, ipad1/2, ipod Touch Android devices (phone/ tablet PC) Not suitable for Windows7 or Blackberry Smartphones Minimum PC/laptop requirements: Window XP/Vista/Windows7 to run the PC software supplied on CD Pentium III, 800MHz or above (Pentium 4 2GHz plus processor with 512Mb memory and a 32Mb video card for multiple camera viewing and recording in PC software VGA Card Resolution: 800x600 or above Video Memory Size: 128Mb or above Recommended minimum internet upload speed: 512Kbps upload speed (or bandwidth) to achieve up to typically 2FPS but can depend on other restrictions by your ISP (internet service providers) if less than 2FPS is achieved Installation notes: Always follow manufacturers advise when using power tools, steps, ladders, etc and wear protective equipment (e.g, safety goggles and gloves) when drilling holes, etc. When using ladders ensure they are positioned on a firm stable surface at an angle and suitably secured. Check for hidden electricity wires or water pipes before drilling any holes. If in doubt use a cable/pipe locator. 3

4 It is advisable to avoid exposing the camera to extreme weather conditions (e.g, under a gutter which is prone to any water leaks). After drilling any holes through an external wall for a cable, ensure the hole is sealed up using a suitable sealant to prevent drafts. To prevent a fire or electrical shock hazard, do not attempt to open the housing while the camera is exposed to rain water or wet conditions. Do not expose any wiring connections to weathering. If terminating any wiring connections outdoors then use a suitable weathering box to insulate the connections. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Please read before you start: Always use discretion when installing CCTV equipment especially when there is perceived policy. Enquire regarding local applications to the lawful installation of video recording/surveillance. Third party consent may be required Notes to consider for installation of the camera: Avoid positioning the camera so that it is facing directly at the sun as this will impair the picture quality viewed. It is recommended to install an outdoor security lamp to improve the night vision of the camera if required because it has a limited night viewing range of approximately 5m. Avoid pointing the camera lens directly through clear glass as the night vision LEDs will cause a blurred image at night. Avoid pointing the camera directly at the sun or any bushes, tree branches or moving objects that might naturally move due to winds. This is also because if you need to use the motion detection feature in the PC software to record movement the software might record unnecessarily. Call the customer helpline on Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm 4

9 UNDERSTANDING THE VIDEO VIEWING SPEED You may achieve a typical video viewing speed of up to 2 frames per second (FPS) when viewing the camera from a remote site (i.e, from a PC/laptop connected to a remote internet connection or using 3G/4G internet from a mobile device). From the display you view the camera; you will see an FPS value displayed which indicates the video viewing speed. This viewing speed will depend on the following: Upload speed of ISP (internet service provider) where the camera is connected to and the remote viewing site - Minimum of 512Kbps recommended. If <512Kbps upload then <2FPS will be seen. Download speed from remote viewing site 1 to 2 Mbps Time of the day when the camera is being viewed Remote viewing during evening and weekends can be < 2FPS due to the expected higher number of internet users during these peak times. Wireless signal strength of the Smartphone/mobile device when connected locally or remotely to WIFI or 3G internet. Resolution settings of the video from the PC software. The default is set to 640x480 (or VGA). If set to 320x240 (or QVGA) this will increase the video speed but reduce the picture quality. (See pages 18 & 19 under Search Tool and Basic Settings ) Note: Even if the upload speed of the ISP from where the camera is installed is >512Kbps, then other restrictions may also cause the remote viewing video speed to be <2FPS. Restrictions could be caused due to the router settings or ISP. If the remote video speed is <1FPS then you may see RLY appear on the mobile device or a Relay mode icon (see page21) on the selected video channel in the PC software. This means the camera has established a back up connection method to overcome any connection restrictions and this does not mean that there is a fault with the camera. If the viewing device (PC or mobile device) is connected locally (or to the same network as the camera) then the video speed should be higher than viewing remotely as described above. If the camera is connected to a network in a business then it is possible that restrictions within the network may prevent the camera from being viewed. In that case please contact the IT support for that network. Call the customer helpline on Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm 9

The FPS viewed would usually be >1FPS like for the example window shown above. If the sum of the above NATType figures are greater than or equal to 5, then the camera may establish the slower relay (RLY) server connection mode due to network restrictions and cause the FPS to be <1FPS 26
