1 BRIC VPN Setup Instructions Change Your VPN Password 1. Go to Note: You will receive a message about the certificate not being valid; go ahead and accept it. 2. Login with your VPN credentials. 3. Click on the Change Password link. 4. Complete the form as follows: a. Old Password = whatever your password currently is goes here b. New Password = whatever you want your password to be c. Confirm new password = re-type the new password d. Click the Change password button 5. Click the Log out link.

2 Install SSL VPN Software on Windows 1. Go to the open-source OpenVPN project website at 2. Click on the Community Software tab at the top. 3. Click on the Downloads link on the right. 4. Download the latest Windows Installer version of OpenVPN (2.1.1 as of this writing). 5. After the download completes, double-click on the installation file to start the installer. 6. On the Welcome to the OpenVPN Setup Wizard screen, click the Next button. 7. On the License Agreement screen, click the I Agree button. 8. On the Choose Components screen, click the Next button. 9. On the Choose Install Location screen, click the Install button. 10. During installation you should receive a dialog Hardware Installation which requires you to click the Continue Anyway button to finish installing the OpenVPN client adapter. 11. In the Installation Complete screen, click the Next button. 12. On the Completing the OpenVPN Setup Wizard screen: 1. Uncheck the Show Readme 2. Click the Finish button

3 Update SSL VPN Configuration on Windows 1. Go to 2. Login with your VPN credentials. 3. Click on the Remote Access link. 4. In the SSL VPN area, find the line that starts with Click here to download a ZIP archive which and click on the Download button (be sure to save somewhere where you will know how to get back to such as your Desktop)

4 5. After this has been downloaded to your computer, double-click on it to open the file and expand it to a location of your choice. Once expanded, browse into the config folder so you are looking at a folder named <YOUR Change the folder name to simply <YOUR USERNAME> (example SmithJ2 ), removing the ending. 6. Copy the this newly renamed folder to the following location: C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config\.. 7. Done.

5 Connect with OpenVPN 1. On your Desktop you should see an icon for the OpenVPN GUI, right-click on this icon and select to Open it from the menu choices. 2. Down in your system notification area, by the clock in the bottom-right, you should see the OpenVPN GUI client icon that resembles two computers with red screens and a globe, right-click on this icon. 3. Select Connect. 4. For the Username field, enter the BRIC VPN username that was created for you. 5. For the Password field, enter the BRIC VPN password that was created for you. 6. Click the OK button. 7. The OpenVPN client should complete the handshake and run the initialization scripts.

6 8. Once the connection is made, you should see an alert bubble. 9. Down in your system notification area, your OpenVPN GUI client icon should now resemble two computers with green screens and a globe. 10. When you need to disconnect, right-click the OpenVPN GUI client icon and select Disconnect. NOTE: Special Windows 7 / Vista Instructions: Please follow same procedure as Windows XP (above), however, for the VPN to be functional, you MUST be sure to perform the following additional steps. 1. Disconnect and then close the OpenVPN connection software completely (runs in the System Tray down in the bottom right-hand corner, 2 cascading little red monitor screens). 2. Open MY COMPUTER or WINDOWS EXPLORER and then browse to the following directory under Computer: C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\bin. 3. Right-click on the file named openvpn-gui exe. 4. Click on the Compatibility Tab and then click Run as Administrator at the bottom of the window. 5. Now click on OKAY and re-launch the OpenVPN client again by double-clicking on this file, and then login to VPN.

7 Install SSL VPN Software on Macintosh 1. Go to Note: You will receive a message about the certificate not being valid; go ahead and accept it. 2. Login with your VPN credentials. 3. Click on the Remote Access link. 4. In the SSL VPN area, find the line that starts with Click here to download a ZIP archive which contains all necessary files to set up SSL VPN on Linux, MacOS X, BSD or Solaris and click on the Download button. 5. After the file downloads to your computer, extract the ZIP file. 6. Now you will need an OpenVPN client program. The currently recommended one is Viscosity OpenVPN Client for Mac, which can be downloaded from 7. Install Viscosity. 8. Click on the Viscosity menu bar icon, select Preferences.

8 9. On the Connections tab, click on the + icon. 10. Select Import Connection. 11. Point this at the.ovpn file in the set that were extracted from the ZIP file you downloaded. 12. With the connection selected, click on the Edit button. 13. Click on the Networking tab, click the + button in the Routing area. a. For Route/IP enter , no quotes. b. For Mask enter , no quotes. c. For Gateway enter vpn_gateway, no quotes d. Click the Add button. 14. Click on the Networking tab again, click the + button in the Routing area. a. For Route/IP enter , no quotes. b. For Mask enter , no quotes. c. For Gateway enter vpn_gateway, no quotes. d. Click the Add button. e. On the Advanced tab, insert the text proto tcp-client, no quotes, at the top of the list of commands. 15. Click the Save button. 16. You should now be able to connect to the SSL VPN.
