Tools: - The select tool is used often, especially when you are switching between specialized pens and shapes.

4 4 - The shapes tool makes it easy for you and your students to draw shapes. This tool also brings up an extra properties toolbar. The properties toolbar for the shapes tool gives you a variety of shapes that you can create and place onto a page. It also lets you add colors and change the line styles of your shapes. Finally, it allows you to work with the transparencies of the shapes. - The regular polygons tool makes it easy for you and your students to draw polygons. 5 5 - The traditional pen in the properties toolbar allows you to change the color, type of line, and the transparency. Tip: If you click on the properties tab on the side of the screen, and click on Fill Effects, you can make this pen write or draw an item and then have it disappear after 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 seconds. - The calligraphic pen lets you connect a specific pen that can be used to draw on the SMART Board. - The crayon pen turns your pen or finger into a crayon and allows you to change the color and the line style. You can also change the color and line style of the shape. - The text tool allows you to type text onto the screen. The text properties let you change fonts, size, style, color, and transparency of the text. - The lines tool helps you to create a variety of lines. 7 7 i. Write a word on the screen. ii. Turn the pen color to white. iii. Color over the word so it disappears. iv. Then use the eraser to reveal the word. FAQs Setting up the SMART Board: 1. How do I connect my computer to a SMART Board? e. Your IT/Tech person will need to install SMART Board Tools on your computer. It is required in order for your computer to talk to the SMART Board. f. Hook your computer to the LCD projector and to the SMART Board through the proper cables. If the SMART Board is connected correctly, a green light will appear on the side of the SMART Board. g. Launch the SMART Board Tools application. h. Orient (align) the SMART Board (with a portable SMART board, you might need to do this several times during a lesson). To orient: i. Click on the Control Panel in the SMART Board Tools bar. ii. Click on Open>Orient iii. Tap the center of each crosshair to complete the re-alignment. iv. Tip: You can orient the SMART Board by 4 points, 9 points, 12 points, or 20 points. Go to the Tools application>open>smart Settings>SMART Hardware Settings (on the left hand side). v. Find the pull down menu, which currently reads Pen and Button Settings, click on it, and scroll down to Orientation/Alignment Settings. vi. Choose the point that you would like and click OK. vii. Tip: You can also orient the board by clicking both buttons on the board.

8 8 2. How do I connect my LCD Projector to the SMART Board? 3. ipad and SMART Board Connect/App/Info a. Connect into a laptop which is connected to an PCD projector: i. You can connect the ipad directly into your laptop, which is connected to the LCD projector, and then you can display anything on your ipad onto a screen (such as the screen on an interactive whiteboard) with a HDMI cable (around $29.99). The disadvantages to this are you are stuck in one place in the room because you are connected via the cable, and if you are projecting onto an interactive whiteboard, the board is not interactive when your set up the classroom this way. b. Apple TV (found at i. Needs: 1. Apple TV - turn on Airplay $ ipad2 or 3 - turn on Airplay (you already have) 3. Cables: a 15-pin VGA cable, an HDMI cable, a 3.5mm Audio Cable, Speakers 4. Last but not least, a box that has one HDMI input port, a VGA output port AND a 3.5 mm Audio Out port (search on amazon.com) I am using this one - (

9 9 Output/dp/B0057UNQ18/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid= &sr=1-7) - for about $ ii. Here is how you do it: 1. Put both Apple TV and ipad2 on the same wireless network, and connect via Airplay (mirroring has to be on.) 2. Connect Apple TV to this HDMI TO VGA/AUDIO converter box 3. Connect this converter box ( 1080P- Output/dp/B0057UNQ18/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UT F8&qid= &sr=1-7) to your VGA projector (with the VGA cable) and speakers (with the audio cable) 4. Pros: No laptop needed as an intermediate device, and any APPS can be used on your ipad because it is a complete 100% Airplay Mirroring. Don't need to buy an expensive HDMI projector. Many classrooms already have a vga or composite-based LCD projector. This will save lots of money. c. Run your laptop with your ipad and project it onto a screen: i. I have used Splashtop app and the streamer on the laptop and it costs $1.99. Works very well. In addition, Splashtop Whiteboard app ($19.99) turns the ipad into an interactive whiteboard. Once connected to their computer over Wifi, they can watch Flash media with fully synchronized video and audio, control favorite applications then annotate over lesson content all from an ipad. This also works very well and has some of the notebook tools. ii. I have also used the Reflector App to make my ipad wirelessly display onto the screen. You will need a wireless internet connection and the reflector app ( which costs $ d. If however you want to use the full potential of Smart Notebook software, and have the need to have multiple ipads interacting with the Smart Board at the same time (i.e. more than one student making use of a section of the Smart Board from an assigned ipad) you will need the Smart Bridget software on a resident PC running Smart Notebook connected to a Smart Board, and the Bridget App for ipad

10 10 (from 4. What is the difference between a portable SMART Board and a mounted SMART Board? a. A portable SMART Board can be moved around the room and usually has wires laid across the floor to connect the board to the LCD projector and the computer. b. The wires are hidden and there is most likely a wireless USB device to connect the computer to the SMART Board. c.
