5 The Business School The Business School has some 85 academic staff, covering the full spectrum of business and management disciplines. There are 77 support staff, 1477 students in the School, with 880 undergraduates, 469 taught postgraduate and 128 PhD students making up this body: turnover is 18.4m. The School has grown rapidly over the last five years, with eight new MScs launched since 2008, 40% of faculty being hired since 2007 and a move into a state-of-the-art purpose-built space in 2010, representing a 17.7m investment in the School from the University. Alongside these changes, there has been increased research activity, improved student satisfaction and widening corporate engagement. This means that the Director will be joining the School at a time of change and growth, and will have opportunities to make a real difference to the School at a crucial stage of its development. The School is developing complementary clusters of activities in its degree programmes, research foci and corporate and practitioner engagement, with an emphasis on organisational leadership and the strategic challenges leaders face.. The School is committed to enabling and encouraging our staff and students to maintain and develop links with the corporate world at local, national and international levels. The School has a broad portfolio of educational programmes. These include: Full time (one year) MBA programmes, with an annual intake of some 55 students. The new Executive MBA was launched in A substantial suite of undergraduate programmes in business with an annual intake of about 200 students and a student population of around 800 full-time equivalents. A suite of specialist MSc programmes, including MSc in Finance and Investment, Accounting and Finance, Financial Management, Banking & Risk, International Business in Emerging Markets,Carbon Management, Carbon Finance, Marketing, Marketing & Business Analysis, Management and Human Resource Management. A typical cohort size for one of our MSc programmes is around students. A PhD programme and an MSc by research, comprising about 128 students. The MBA Programmes Our MBA programmes have been accredited by AMBA for a number of years, and were re-accredited for a further 5 years in The School is also accredited by EQUIS and will be reviewed in early 2014 for AACSB accreditation. The School is launching a new Executive MBA (EMBA) in 2013/14, to sit alongside its full time MBA. This post has been created to manage both programmes and to ensure that the School continues to build on its already considerable success in delivering high quality MBA programmes. The 2-year EMBA programme has a modular delivery structure Friday lunchtime to Saturday evening, once a month, plus 4 x 1 week modules over the 2 years and the Programme Director will be expected to be accessible to the EMBA students. With the launch of EMBA, and the ongoing challenges of working in a globally competitive market, this is an exciting and critical stage in the development of our MBA portfolio. The full time MBA target intake for 2013/14 is 50. The executive MBA will have its first intake in 2013/14, with a target of 20/25 students. Full details about the programmes at The MBA has dedicated administrative staff working within the School s PGT Office, which supports both MBA and MSc programmes, and is managed by the PGT Programmes Administration & Support Manager. There are also a number of specialist support staff within the School s Corporate Development team (marketing, student recruitment, corporate engagement, student projects, careers, alumni) who are also closely involved with the MBA programme. 5 Appointment of Director of MBA Programmes

7 Role Description The Director will lead the delivery and development of the MBA and EMBA programmes with a focus on: Developing and delivering a strategy for the MBA Programmes Forging close working relationships with the student body and with academic and professional colleagues in the the School and across the wider University Continuously reviewing the external environment, assessing market trends and student requirements and selecting peer institutions to benchmark against Developing and maintaining close links with practitioner organisations Playing an active role in teaching and learning quality assurance processes as well as other programmerelated activities such as, admissions (particularly around conversion work), scholarship decisions, marketing campaigns, recruitment activities (fairs, open days), induction, extracurricular events, graduation, alumni events Providing academic and pastoral support to MBA students, in conjunction with appointed MBA personal tutors from the academic staff. The essential requirements to be appointed Director are: An outstanding track record of success in developing and delivering comparable programmes Knowledge of the MBA market, MBA rankings, and accreditation standards The ability to form productive working relationships with students, academics, and professional staff The ambition to create pioneering programmes that emphasise quality, creativity, and student satisfaction Success in maintaining and developing links with external and practitioner organisations nationally and internationally Excellent academic credentials in a business or management discipline (ideally to PhD level or equivalent) The desirable requirements to be appointed are a successful track record of: Teaching and/or research in a business or management discipline Involvement in business and management practice and/or consultancy Working as a member of a senior team Terms and Conditions Salary will be negotiable depending on track record and experience. 7 Appointment of Director of MBA Programmes
