3 What is a webfolio? Webfolios allow users of PebblePad to creatively aggregate content for the purposes of: Formative and summative assessment Personal Development Planning (PDP) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Evidencing content to support job applications Working on collaborative projects. Users can also share any webfolios they create with other people. This can be done internally as well as with individuals outside of the institution they are studying at. This feature makes using webfolios an extremely versatile and flexible way for sharing work. Create a new webfolio Once logged into PebblePad, users can create a new webfolio by clicking on Create New. The link to the webfolio is held in the second section. There are five steps in total when creating a webfolio Technology Enhanced Learning Last reviewed 25/03/14 Page 3 of 7
4 Title and description Give the webfolio a title and describe what the webfolio is for. Users can add as little or as much information here as they feel is necessary. Tags can be added to the webfolio, making it easy to search for and find. Users can create bespoke tags and/or use those made available by PebblePad. Choosing a template Users can configure the interface design of their webfolios by choosing from a range of templates and colour schemes. Configuring the navigation settings On selecting a template, users will be asked to configure the layout of settings on the webfolio. This is a matter of preference and can be easily changed retrospectively. Technology Enhanced Learning Last reviewed 25/03/14 Page 4 of 7
5 Adding pages to the webfolio Adding pages to the webfolio is a simple matter of naming them and then clicking on the white chevrons to add them to the webfolio. Pages can be rearranged and deleted retrospectively. New pages can also be added at any time after the webfolio has been created. Previewing By clicking on the magnifying glass icon, users can view the webfolio. Working with assets The final step opens a Pad with a range of options with regards to what to do with the webfolio. By clicking on the tick, the asset goes straight to the main repository. Other options include viewing the asset, sending it to other people, reviewing it, linking it to another asset and tagging it. 6 Getting started with creating a webfolio In the sections that follow, further information is provided that may help you create a webfolio. FAQs How are webfolios different from other assets? Webfolios function as workspaces in which multiple assets can be collected together for various purposes including assessments, Personal Development Planning (PDP) and Continued Professional Development (CPD). Can I create a webfolio without having a PebblePad account? Webfolios can only be created if you have a PebblePad account. To get set up with one, contact Richard Harris, LEI, and request an account. If you are using PebblePad with your students, you ll need an admin account as this will allow you to create gateways (esubmission points). Can I create webfolio templates for students to use? You can create templates that can be shared with students in two ways. You can simply send them to each student by creating a distribution list within PebblePad. Alternatively, you can set a gateway up, upload the template to the gateway and give each student access to it. Can students create their own webfolios? Students can create as many webfolios as they like for as many purposes as they need to. Can deadlines be set if webfolios are used for assessment purposes? If you want to set a deadline, make sure students are submitting their work to a gateway you have set up. Like any esubmission process deadlines can be set that mean the gateway is only accessible up to the point of submission. A separate gateway can be created for late submissions. Summary Webfolios can be used for a range of learning and teaching purposes and are particularly effective where students are required demonstrate skills and knowledge using a range of media formats.
