4 1-1) Overview of Service Cloud n Monitoring is a monitoring service provided by Cloud n to watch over the state of Cloud n Compute, Cloud n Load Balancing Advanced (LBA) and other Cloud n Services. Using Cloud n Monitoring, you can centrally manage the monitoring items you specifies, such as system load and network traffic. You can also make alert settings by setting a certain threshold for each monitoring item. The alerts are sent to the designated addresses. This manual explains how to display the monitoring graphs and make alert settings on the Cloud n Monitoring console. If you have any questions, please contact us through the Support Portal which can be accessed from Cloud n Portal. The major functions of this service are as follows. Compute Basic Monitoring Monitors the virtual server s CPU utilization, disk I/O, and amount of net transfer (5 minute intervals). Compute Data Disk Monitoring Monitors I/O of the data disk added to the virtual server (5 minute intervals). Compute Details Monitoring (to be released) Monitors the virtual server s CPU utilization, disk I/O, and amount of network transfer (1 minute intervals). LBA Monitoring Monitors the number of request from the load balancer, and the status of load balanced virtual servers (1 minute intervals). Cloud n Auto Scaling Monitoring Monitors the number of virtual servers belonging to Auto Scaling group, as well as the number of InService / Pending / Terminating servers (1 minute intervals). Custom Metrics (to be released) Provides more detailed monitoring by adding scripts to the virtual servers. If you want to be monitoring beyond the standard menu, this service will be valuable for you.

5 1-2) Making preparation Make sure you have the followings before using Cloud n Monitoring. Devices for Internet connection Check that PCs, modems, and other devices necessary for Internet / intranet connection are in place. Internet connection service Sign up for Internet connection service. e.g.) Any 24-hour Internet connection service, such as OCN Dial Access Service, OCN ADSL Connection Service, Super OCN. - You can use other Internet service providers. - If a proxy server is used in your environment, check that https (port no. 443) is open. Cloud n Service Guide mail Make sure you have Cloud n Service Guide at hand, which was delivered at the start of Cloud n. You cannot use Monitoring Service for virtual servers created on Compute (VLAN Type). 5

6 This section explains how to launch Cloudⁿ Monitoring console ) Launching the monitoring console Login to Cloudⁿ Portal, pose over the relevant Monitoring icon in your region, and then click [Console] displayed in the box. 2 Monitoring console is launched in a new window. 6

7 3-1) Making a graph of metric status This section explains how to select metrics and display the status in a graph. 1 From [Metrics] menu of Monitoring console, select the metric category you want to display. When [All] is selected, all the metrics will be displayed. You can narrow down the metrics by entering a keyword in the search box. The [ID] row shows UUID of monitored object for the metrics. You can check UUID of virtual servers in Compute Console by selecting the virtual server, and clicking the displayed [Details] tab. 7

8 2 3-1) Making a graph of metric status A graph appears in the graph area, showing the state of selected metric. The example shows CPU utilization of a virtual server created in Cloud n Compute. If you operate Time Range, you can change the start and end of horizontal axis, as well as the stored duration. [Refresh] if you have changed the From and To points. 8

9 3-2) Making alert settings This section explains how to set a threshold for individual metrics to make alert settings. You can set an alert region for each threshold to create 2 patterns when it is within the region (Pattern A) and when it is out of the region (Pattern B) as below. In Cloud n Monitoring, generated alerts are sent to the specified addresses. Alert region Threshold 1 Time A B [All] under [Alerts] from [Metrics] menu of Monitoring console. 9

10 2 [Create] from [Alert] menu. 3-2) Making alert settings 3 From the list of metric settings, select the metric you want to make an alert setting. You can narrow down the metrics by entering a keyword in the search box, or by selecting a metric category from the pull down menu. 10

11 4 3-2) Making alert settings Enter the alert name and purpose in [Name] and [Description] respectively in [Identify Your Alert] display. 5 Do not include a space in the alert name ([Name]). The setting can be saved with the space, but no alert will be sent. In [Define Alert Threshold] display, enter the threshold, and select whether the alert region should be above or below the threshold in [Operator]. Each operator has the following meaning. Operator Meaning >= The region is above the threshold (includes the threshold) > The region is more than the threshold (does not include the threshold) <= The region is not more than the threshold (includes the threshold) < The region is less than the threshold (does not include the threshold) You cannot set an alert region with 2 or more thresholds, such as a region between A and B. 11

12 6 3-2) Making alert settings In [Define Your Action] display, select an alert type in [When Alert State is], enter a receiving address for the alert mails in [Action Details], and click [Add]. The followings are the meaning of alert type. When Alert State is OK ALARM Meaning When it is out of the alert region When it is within the alert region 7 Make sure that the alert setting you made is reflected in [Actions] display, and click [Create alert]. 13 3-2) Making alert settings 8 The [Alert] display reappears with the alert setting you made. The below example shows an alert setting [>= 20] for CPU utilization of virtual server created in Cloud n Compute. 13

14 This section explains how to change the alert setting you made ) Changing the alert setting [All] under [Alerts] in [Metrics] menu of Monitoring console. 2 Tick the checkbox of the alert you want to change, and click [Modify]. The below example shows an alert setting [>= 20] for CPU utilization of virtual server created in Cloud n Compute. 14

15 3 3-3) Changing the alert setting The alert setting appears. Change the alert setting, and click [Create Alert] to reflect the change. 15

16 This section explains how to delete the alert settings ) Deleting alert settings [All] under [Alerts] in [Metrics] menu of Monitoring console. 2 Tick the checkbox of the alert you want to delete. The below sample shows an alert setting [>= 20] for CPU utilization of virtual server created in Cloud n Compute. 16
