We appreciate our outstanding panel of speakers and their valuable contribution to this year s program. The 12th Annual Resident Quiz Bowl has ten orthopaedic programs competing for the coveted trophy, cash prizes, and, most importantly, the bragging rights of the winning team. Emcees Kyle F. Dickson, MD and Fred G. Corley, MD will provide lively commentary for the resident competition. The Texas Orthopaedic Association was founded in 1936 and has seen many changes in the evolution of orthopaedic care in its 78 years of existence. It has been my honor to have served as President of our Association this year. TOA s tradition of excellence will grow. We are pleased to see more and more young orthopaedic surgeons who have become engaged with leadership roles in our association. The future of TOA is outstanding. Please join us for all of our CME Programming, our TOA/TOF/TSSM Business Luncheons, and our social events. Our Friday evening reception to be held in the Westin Riverwalk Hotel promises to be an enjoyable and lively Fiesta event for you and your guests. I welcome you to and to the 2014 TOA Annual Meeting. Regards, Patrick M. Palmer MD Texas Orthopaedic Association President,

4 Greetings TOF Supporters! I regret that I will be unable to join you at this year s Annual Meeting due to an obligation as a member of the AAOS Board of Directors. This will be my first TOA/TOF/TSSM Annual Meeting that I have missed in over a decade. The Foundation is partnering with our Texas Orthopaedic residency programs to provide online access to presentations made at their conferences and grand rounds for all Texas Orthopaedic surgeons. We will be fortunate to have content from some of the nation s leading orthopaedic experts in the coming months. If you ever have an interest in presenting your research or expertise for our members to view online, please contact our staff. Whenever I am at AAOS meetings, Orthopaedic surgeons from other states always tell me how pleased they are with the strength of the Texas Orthopaedic organizations. I am looking forward to working with y all in the future to enhance our great organizations and the educational experience in Texas. Sincerely, David J. Mansfield, MD Texas Orthopaedic Foundation Chair Welcome TSSM members! The 2014 annual meeting has an informative, diverse agenda that will benefit your practice as you adapt to changing times in medicine. Our goal at TSSM is to provide an environment of education and networking for sports medicine professionals around the state. The annual meeting is a major part of our plan to achieve that goal. The program this year features Kurt Spindler, MD from the Cleveland Clinic. He has been an integral part of a multi-center outcomes network for years. The practice of medicine is attempting to be measured by many different entities as we all wrestle with the issues of cost, value, and efficiency. Improving in these areas while maintaining a patient-centered practice will require accurate information on treatment outcomes. We are excited to hear about Dr. Spindler s experience and the future of orthopaedic-specific benchmarking. TSSM is committed to providing the information that is specific to our state. Issues such as concussion legislation and changing regulations affect the practice of sports medicine. I hope you agree that this year s annual meeting will keep you up to date on all of the latest from Austin. Again, welcome to! Sincerely, David E. Haynes, MD TSSM President 4
