6 SPORTS AND LAND 1 day EXTREME Itinerary - Calà del Sasso Climb the road of the tree trunks by the 4,444 steps of Calà del Sasso, the stairs that lead up to the Asiago Plateau. Difficulty: for trained hikers - Suggested departure from Valstagna (VI): 9:30 a.m. - Climbing time: about 2 hours - Drop: 700m The mountain dwellers say: they were designed by the devil. A steep slope with a drop of more than 700m. Calà del Sasso: 4,444 steps moulded by the devil that lead up to the Paradise. This legendary trail was an important means of communication and main road for moving goods and timber for centuries, each stone step was extracted and carved on-site, with a vertical height of 10/15 cm, a depth of a half- meter and an average width of two meters. A road that in the past was essential for commerce between the Asiago Plateau and the Serenissima Republic.
