Students should search the Chronicle of Higher Education for potential positions that match their vocational interests and professional values. In this paper, students will address: how this position is ideal for you and its connection to your personal and professional goals and values. How will you go about preparing for such a position? What kinds of experiences and expertise would you need to be successful? A copy of the position description must be included with your analysis (this does not count toward the page limit). CAMPUS CULTURE Each student will be required to submit three images that represent their vision of UNI s culture. STUDENT AFFAIRS PROFESSIONAL INTERVIEW Identify a student affairs professional who works in an area of interest for you. Develop some questions of that person to pursue an in-person interview. The interview will result in a written report, 3-5 pages in length. The purpose of this assignment is to help you connect with a professional who may bring different perspectives and experiences to your understanding of the field and your formulation of a career path. Some areas to explore include: how did they get where they are? What have they learned about themselves along the way? What would they say about the values of the profession and what attracted them to it? What advice do they have for a professional-in-training? What conclusions do you draw from your interview? 5

6 GRADUATE SCHOOL PERSONAL GOALS STATEMENT This assignment is designed to prepare students for the graduate school admissions process. Students will construct a 2-3 page personal statement on our personal and professional goals and how graduate school will help you meet those goals. Students are encouraged to look at their potential graduate school applications for personal statement specifics by institution. With your personal statement, an updated cover letter and resume (tailored to one specific graduate school) must be submitted. TRENDING UP PRESENTATION This assignment is designed to get you started on your functional unit presentation. On your assigned date, you will deliver a two minute presentation, with your functional unit partner, about current trends within your unit presentation topic. You will need to provide a hard copy of the url and article to the instructor immediately following your presentation. FUNCTIONAL UNIT PRESENTATION Working with a partner, students will prepare a minute presentation on an area of student affairs. The presentation should cover the following: professional standards, professional organizations, professional qualifications and training appropriate to the field, and 2-3 current issues.
