1 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Ending gender violence - From research to intervention. Comparison of hypotheses and results February 20-23, 2013 Padua (Italy) Within the framework of European policies is the need to implement educational strategies and interventions of a psychological and social nature that are aimed at combating against gender violence, domestic violence, as well as all types of abuse and exploitation of women. In this framework, the European project 'EMPoWER Daphne' ( was developed that through the use of psychodrama techniques and active methods such as Playback Theatre, aims to promote a new awareness in women that have been victims of abuse. In particular, through the use of these methodologies, one can enable women victims, to become aware of any personal factors that make them 'accomplices' in perpetuating the cycle of violence. The research team coordinating the European project 'Empower Daphne', of the University of Padua in collaboration with AIPsiM (Italian Association Morenian Psychodramatists), FEPTO (Federation of European Psychodrama Training Organisations), GDG (Study Group on Gender Gap), CIRSPG (Interdipartimental Research Center on Gender Policies), Cooperativa Sociale Iside, is organizing the international conference "Ending Gender Violence - From research to intervention. Comparison of Hypotheses and results "that will be held in Padua and Rovigo, Italy from February 20 th to 23 rd, The event includes a large number of presentations, discussions and poster viewings on a range of topics related to the conference themes. Each theme it is addressed to a specific field of intervention concerning psychology, education, psychodrama, and social work s best practices. The Call for Papers is now open. We kindly invite you to submit papers about projects, ideas, experiences or your research results related to one of the following conference themes: Shelters and anti-violence centers: 1) Gender Violence: expressions of abuse and exploitation of women In recent years there has been an increase of contributions in the literature that explore the phenomena related to VAW, ethnic minorities and immigrant population. Particular attention will be paid to cases of abuse and exploitation of foreign women in the hosted country viewed through case studies and analysis of data. Abstracts will highlights limitations and obstacles to the present services, but also proposals and projects aimed to implement appropriate social structures that reach all segments of the women population. Psychodrama and Active Tecniques 2) Psychodrama and processing violence in the feminine universe A study by McVea and GoW (2006) has shown that psychodrama can be used to resolve feelings of grief and guilt, allowing one to develop new ways of interacting, in particular, this study highlights how a mother can change her way of interacting with her daughter in order not to perpetuate the cycle of violence and pain (GoW and McVea 2006). Applicants are invited to submit abstracts on their research and projects relating to psychodrama

2 intervention on gender violence. Interventions can be both preventive (to prevent gender violence, education about equal opportunities), as well as interventions for women that have been victims of violence or on perpetrators of violence. Educators, Psychologists, Trainers, Public Services. 3) Innovative educational practices and psychological interventions Violence against women within the confines of the home, in the workplace, and through ideologies that support the subordination of women in order to maintain family and social order, have profound effects on the self and on the intimacy of women. Women subordination is closely linked to the social construction of the concept of "gender" (Rubin, 1975) and manifested through the feminine subjection to the will and desire of men. For example through various forms of violence (Heise, 1993) but also through eating disorders and depression (Friedrickson, Roberts, 1997). Candidates are asked to write abstracts concerning the practices employed or projects implemented at the psychological and educational level to combat and prevent women subordination (in all its forms). Social workers. 4) Social support for women and combating against gender violence Particular attention will be paid to analyze the methods and operational strategies used by social workers to combat against gender violence at the time intra-familial violence is identified. Workshops Living experience that will be organized around the main themes of the congress. Information will be exchanged between participants and the leaders, then creating an interactive exchange. Workshops may have 1-3 leaders. Sessions will last 2 hours. Leaders participants to the workshop must send an abstract in English no longer than 120 words. Submit a proposal Call for Posters Poster (PO): Visual presentation of projects, or research s results explaining professional experiences. Exhibitors have to be available to discuss their work at specific times. Each poster will last 5 minutes. Participants need to send an abstract in English no longer than 120 words on the theme of the poster presented. THEME International Social Assistance -Best Practices used in working with abused women Innovative Methodologies and strategies of preventions (against gender violence) in psychodrama, Playback Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed Gender and Interculturality DESCRIPTION This poster will showcase various international strategies, plans, models, and measurement tools used by institutions and social services to successfully treat abused women Posters will have the goal of illustrating: - Psychodrama interventions carried out with women that have been victims of violence or interventions with violent men. - Interventions with children that have been victims of domestic violence - Gender violence prevention programs Gender and culture. How gender concepts are different among cultures and how those concepts affect women s lives in a host country

3 Call for Papers All abstracts should be a minimum of 200 words and no longer than 600 words, ApA Style, double and spaced. Abstracts must be submitted via to empower.daphne.dpa@unipd.it by July 10 th, All abstracts will be peer reviewed prior to their acceptance after which you will be notified (by July 15 th, 2012) if your abstract has been accepted or not. Papers that have been accepted will be invited to extend the work into a full paper (max words, references included), by August 15 th Reviewed articles will be sent to the authors by September 10 th, 2012 in order to proceed with the editing phase. Accepted papers will be considered for publication in the conference proceedings which will be published during the month of December, Article Specifications In the paper you must indicate where tables and figures will be inserted. Footnotes are not to be included; any notes (the least possible) are to be placed at the end of the article. The names of the authors and the details in regards to their affiliation with an institution/organization should be mentioned on page 1 (also the address and the telephone/fax/ of each author).on page 2, a summary should be prepared that is no longer than 120 words, in English, Italian and Spanish languages (the Italian and the Spanish versions must also include the translation into English of the title and of the abstract). In addition, we request that you list in English a maximum of five key words that identify the content of the article. The write-up (written in Times New Roman, 11 font and left justified), should be sent in WORD format If the write up discusses the outcome of your research, the abstract must be organized in the following manner: a) Theoretical references b) Objectives and Hypothesis of the research c) Methodology (description of the research, the participants and analysis d) Results e) Conclusion and Discussion If the paper presents a critical review with respect to specific models of intervention and their application, or describes a meta-analysis of several studies carried out, the abstract must be organized as follows: a)theoretical References b)description of the model submitted in reference to other models or of the object of metanalysis c)review of the applications and data resulting from the comparisons d)critical discussion of the results e)conclusion The journal has adopted the rules of the American Psychological Association (APA). It s therefore necessary to observe the following rules: -Exact match between text citations and final bibliography -No footnotes -The citations in the text (using APA rules) must be listed alphabetically in the bibliography.
