1 Campus Ministry 1 Campus Ministry Five-Year Strategic Plan Division Mission Statement The Division of Enrollment Services will assist the College in achieving its mission of nurturing and developing the whole student in a caring, Christian environment by ensuring institutional effectiveness, securing institutional viability, directing enrollment management efforts, advancing the Christian distinctiveness of the College, and providing student services. Institutional Goal 2 Inspired by commitment to Christian distinctive in programs and activities. Portion of the Division Mission Statement Addressed by Institutional Goal 2 advancing the Christian distinctiveness of the College Division Strategic Plan Objective Addressed by Institutional Goal 4 All programs and activities of enrollment services demonstrate Christian faith. Action Plan 1 Develop, implement, and guide a comprehensive Christian ministry for the entire Mount Vernon Campus. Method of Assessment 1 Provide a variety of ministry opportunities such as Bible study, worship, and missions, and campus outreaches for the entire student body on the Mount Vernon Campus. Publicize the opportunities by using flyers, , and Facebook. Written feedback of the number/percentage of students involved with ministry opportunities compared to total enrollment of Mount Vernon Campus Results The academic year has been a period of change and restructure within the Campus Ministry program. During this year, Campus Ministry continued to develop a comprehensive approach for spiritual growth and development in an effort to fulfill its purpose and objective. Through an assortment of events and ministries, the Campus Ministry Department made at least one contact with approximately one hundred and seventy of six hundred fifty plus students on the Mount Vernon campus of Brewton-Parker College. Throughout the year, Campus Ministry continued to pursue the goal of extending their emphasis beyond the scope of a single focus ministry. Based on conversations with, students, faculty, and staff, some success has been achieved within this effort. A broader assortment of missions and outreach opportunities has helped this emphasis; however, a stronger focus in discipleship is needed to continue in achieving the scope. Student Leadership for Campus Ministry is still in transition and needs to undergo a few more changes. This year, student leadership will continue to follow the area team leadership approach. However, the teams will transition in

2 Campus Ministry 2 their purpose and format. The leadership will consist of twenty students serving on three teams with specific ministry areas. Switching to a specific area team approach in our leadership proved to be a valuable transition. The increase in team members also helped in further implementing our ministry goals and emphasis. However, the new format seemed to be deficient in obtaining a broader ministry impact on the campus. This deficiency is exemplified in the total restructure of the ministry. Campus Ministry will continue to raise mission awareness in order to encourage greater participation of students in local, regional, and global mission opportunities and seek to provide students with at least four opportunities. The Missions emphasis on Brewton-Parker s campus continues to grow through continual promotion of mission opportunities and awareness. Various opportunities for participation in Missions were offered throughout the year. Over the Christmas break, thirty-four students traveled to Lake Shore, MS to help in disaster relief of damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. Every year, Spring break provides another wonderful opportunity to engage students in missions. Through Campus ministry and our Christianity department, our campus sponsored two different mission teams for Spring Break. One team of two students traveled with Dr. Hal Ostrander to Kazakhstan where they were trained along side of national students in Apologetics. Another team consisted of twelve students and the Campus Minister traveling to Nicaragua. Campus Ministry has partnered with the IMB Missionary in Nicaragua to make it an annual trip. Throughout the week, these students hiked and camped in order to distribute Bibles and show the Jesus video to remote villages in the mountains of Nicaragua. Over the summer, ten students from Brewton-Parker served on the mission field through The Georgia Baptist Collegiate Ministries Summer Missions program. Campus Ministry will further develop an intentional discipleship program focusing on small group development through ministry teams and genders specific programming. Bible studies have been a constant challenge on the campus. Each semester several bible studies are started and each semester several end prematurely due to inconsistency in the leaders and the participants. In effort to resolve this issue, a small group approach was implemented focusing on two specific affinity groups: residential students and athletes. The fall semester began with three small groups. Growth and division of these group resulted in nine small group by the end of spring semester. Campus Ministry will seek to broaden ministry from a one event focus to a comprehensive ministry strategy. In order to broaden into a more comprehensive ministry, the leadership team decided to completely reformat the entire ministry structure. The new structure consists of three specific areas of ministry: Worship Gathering, Discipleship, and Missions Awareness. All programs, outreach, and events must fit within the vision and purpose of these ministry areas.

4 Campus Ministry Response Based upon the data shown in the Semester reports and the results of changes established last academic year, the following modifications are needed: Student Leadership for Campus Ministry will consist of a new format. This year, student leadership will follow a team style leadership approach focusing on three specific areas of ministries. Therefore, the leadership will consist of a smaller number of students. Campus Ministry will reformat its discipleship program focusing on consistency within student development through Monday night worship, small groups, mentoring groups, and genders specific programming. Campus Ministry will become more consistent in teaching on Monday nights and seek to involve great campus participation. Campus Ministry will continue to raise mission awareness in order to encourage greater participation of students in local, regional, and global mission opportunities and seek to provide students with greater number opportunities.

Institutional Goal 2 Inspired by commitment to Christian distinctive in programs and activities Portion of the Division Mission Statement Address by Institutional Goal 2 advancing the Christian distinctiveness of the College OBJECTIVE Campus Ministry will provide opportunities for students to grow in their walks with Christ through participation in Bible Studies, mission trips (stateside and international), BCM Summer Missions, and worship events. Action Plan 1 Provide a variety of ministry opportunities such as men s and women s dorm Bible Studies Method of Assessment 1 Keep track of the number of students as a whole who participate regularly in Bible Study Show numerical growth from the 65 students who consistently participated in the school year Results Attendance for the fall and spring Bible Studies declined by approximately 23%, from 65 students to 50. This could be due to a lack of organization and promotion on the part of the individual Bible Study leaders Response During the school year we will seek to improve this by assigning a co-leader to be paired with each individual Bible Study leader. The BCM Discipleship team will prepare Scripture lessons to guide each leader, in hopes of creating a sense of cohesion among the Bible Study groups and any discussion that may take place outside of the scheduled meeting time. Attendance will be taken at each meeting in order to determine the consistency of the students.

6 Campus Ministry 6 Action Plan 2 Offer opportunities for students to participate in mission trips during Christmas break and Spring Break, both stateside and internationally. Method of Assessment 2 Quantitative Results: How many people (students, faculty and staff) participated? Qualitative Results: Discuss with the local missionary as to whether or not the purpose of the mission trip was accomplished. Quantitative: Have a 1:10 ratio of staff to student participation. Qualitative: The local missionaries strategy for reaching their focus group was furthered due to the assistance of the BPC team Results A stateside mission trip was taken during the spring to Atlanta, GA. The purpose of the trip was to prayer walk multi-housing communities near Clarkston Baptist Church, where around 15 nationalities were represented. The church hopes to include racial diversity in their congregation; therefore BPC students assisted with outreach and church promotion. No salvations were reported. One staff member and eight student participated. Nicaragua was a successful trip. In the past BPC has been active in the evangelistic ministry of this country. During their week-long trip, students worked with IMB Connecting Missionaries Loren and Karen Dickey (recently reassigned to Chili). The purpose of the trip was to hike through the mountains, evangelizing the homes too remote in location to be reached by car. Each home was given a copy of either the Gospel of Luke or John (in Spanish) and families were invited to a central location to view the Jesus Film. Around 400 people heard the Gospel of Christ and 3 salvations were professed. Within a year of this trip, IMB Connecting declared Nicaragua to be a Reached country (meaning at least 5% of the population professes faith in Jesus Christ) and reassigned all of their local personnel. The ministry is continuing through the faithful work of the national believers. One staff member, two adults, and seven students participated. In Brazil, the team helped Zoe (Abundant Life-house church) through relational evangelism with college students on the campuses of 2 universities. One staff member and five BPC students joined with Chris Julian, the IMB missionary there. The trip was an IWC project that was supposed to include other teams but Visas were declined and BPC students ended up ministering alone. The team shared in depth with 30 people and shared the love of Christ with another 40 students. No professions of faith were recorded while the team was there, but some students began asking questions about Christ as a result of the trip. The team intermingled during lunch/dinner, sat in on classes, hung out during work study assignments, and hung out at the Zoe café coffee shop. The team invited all students during the week to one big party at the end of the week with the purpose of connecting people with the house church. At least 10 un-churched people became connected with the church as a result of the party Response During academic year Campus Ministry will offer 2 international mission opportunities and 2 stateside mission trips throughout the year. Some possibilities for mission

7 Campus Ministry 7 trips are Peru, Haiti, Mozambique, California, and Atlanta. We will also offer local mission opportunities monthly in order to better serve our community. Action Plan 3 Assist in raising funds to sponsor IMB Connecting and North American Mission Board summer mission projects through the Georgia Baptist Convention. Through our financial contributions, Brewton-Parker students then have the option to serve as a BCM Summer Missionary through the GBC without cost to the student. Method of Assessment Set an attainable summer missions goal, based off the amount raised the previous year, and plan multiple fundraisers throughout the school year in order to reach our goal. Was the established financial goal reached and did BPC have any students participate in BCM Summer Missions Results Two students participated in BCM Summer Missions, which was a decline of seven from the previous school year. BPC s BCM submitted $5,500 to the state BCM Missions Fund; an increase of $200 from the school year Response BPC hopes to send 15 students through the Georgia Baptist Convention to participate in 10 week long summer mission projects. We also hope to reach a goal of $10,000 for GBC summer missions. Action Plan 4 Provide a weekly time of corporate worship on Monday nights that is appealing for all students, faculty, and staff wishing to attend. Method of Assessment Quantitative: Take a head count each week of people participating, keeping track of times of increase and decline throughout the year. The number of students and adults participating will increase throughout the year, as opposed to declining as semester obligations and deadlines occur Results The fall semester started out well attended during Monday night worship times. However, with the announcement that certain majors were being cut from the school, many students became discouraged and attendance dropped significantly. The drop in attendance carried over to the spring semester, but the number of students participating in weekly worship stayed fairly consistent. Regretfully, even the consistent number attending was much lower than previous years. The school is facing a time of transition that is directly affecting the attitudes of the students and their desires to be involved in campus activities.

8 Campus Ministry Response During the school year a quantitative approach of assessment will continue. We hope to increase our participation in Monday night worship throughout each semester instead of the usual decline.
