Use the grouping command to display your data in an outlined format. Attach comments to specific cells, format them in different sizes and colors and then print them. Display a summarized table of your data using the pivot table feature and learn how easy it is to manipulate your pivot table to get different results using pivot table tools. Learn how to protect the entire workbook, the entire spreadsheet or just specific cells within the spreadsheet. Explore the differences between linking and hyper-linking. Learn how to link data from one sheet to another, from one workbook to another and even how to include a formula within the linked data. Review how to manage, update and break the link when the source is lost. Learn how to format a cell to accept or validate specific types of data. Use the conditional formatting feature to automatically change the format of a value when it meets a specific condition or criteria. Practice different ways to paste values and formats on selected cells using the paste special feature. Set up a workbook so that multiple users can open the same file at the same time and then learn how to track the changes. Completion of this hands-on workshop is required before administrative access will be granted. Topics include creating and managing sessions (ILT classes), managing standard proxy enrollments, managing rosters and running standard reports. 5/5/15 noon 4 p.m. Cornerstone HSO Administrator Workshop This course is intended for the HSO administrators for the Cornerstone Learning Management System. Completion of this hands-on workshop is required before administrative access will be granted. Topics include creating events and sessions, managing proxy enrollments, creating and managing curricula and groups, managing rosters and running reports. 5 Clinical Skills Track PAGE 4 Goldfarb School of Nursing Programs Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program: Accelerated Option The Accelerated option is a full-time, fast-paced, 12-month program that comprises 58 credits of nursing course work. Applicants must have a bachelor s degree in a field other than nursing. They must be available a minimum of hours per week for course work and simulation labs during the day and for clinical experiences during days, evenings and/or weekends. Clinical experiences are completed at BJC HealthCare hospitals and St. Louis area health care facilities. Master of Science in Nursing Program: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner The Adult-Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner concentration is for BSN-prepared registered nurses interested in pursuing advanced nursing roles focusing on caring for acute, critically ill and injured patients. The program uniquely prepares students to assume the complex and evolving professional roles of independent practitioners in intensive care units and other acute care environments. Clinical experiences emphasize gaining competence as a practitioner in the critical care environment, with additional focus in the urgent care and long-term acute care areas at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program: Upper Division The Upper Division option is a full-time, five-term (20 months) program that comprises 66 credit hours of nursing course work. Applicants must complete 54 credit hours of prerequisite course work at community colleges or other universities. Classes are offered in a full-time day format with a minimum of hours per week for course work and simulation labs during the day or evenings and for clinical experiences during days, evenings and/or weekends. Clinical experiences are completed at BJC HealthCare hospitals and St. Louis area health care facilities. RN-to-BSN The RN-to-BSN option, which has an online component, is designed for licensed, registered nurses interested in earning a bachelor s degree. The three-term (12-month) program comprises 33 credit hours of course work that builds on each RN s existing knowledge, skills and abilities. Each term includes two brief in-person sessions, with faculty and fellow nurses, to introduce the concurrent online courses and provide academic enrichment. Master of Science in Nursing Program: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner The Adult-Gero Primary Care Nurse Practitioner concentration is for BSN-prepared registered nurses interested in becoming an advanced practice nurse focusing on caring for the adult patient. The program builds upon a foundation in theory, research, ethics and health policy to advance students understanding of clinical decision making needed in advanced practice roles. Through the program, students will be educationally and clinically prepared to provide care for well adults, as well as diagnose, treat and manage adults with acute and chronic conditions. Clinical experiences are conducted in clinics, physician offices and other primary care settings in the St. Louis area. Master of Science in Nursing Program: Nurse Anesthesia The Nurse Anesthesia concentration is a full-time, 28-month course of study that includes academic courses and seminars incorporating high-fidelity human simulation. The curriculum also includes an anatomy course with a cadaver lab. Students gain extensive clinical experience at Barnes- Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children s Hospital.
6 5 Leadership Development BJC LEARNING INSTITUTE COURSE CATALOG StartingLine (For all levels of BJC leaders, especially those newly promoted or hired into BJC) StartingLine is a two-day program for managers designed to help them start on the right foot by learning the right things to do and the best way to do them. In this program, managers learn to build trust and productive relationships, treat employees consistently, fairly and in compliance with employment law, set and communicate expectations, initiate conversations to reinforce or redirect performance and document these conversations. Program length: Two days 4/7-4/8/15 4/22-4/23/15 5/19-5/20/15 6/2-6/3/15 6/16-6/17/15 BJC Leadership Certificate The BJC Leadership Certificate is dedicated to developing the skills and capabilities our managers need to make medicine better. In this program, managers learn to demonstrate effective practices of successful management, communicate more effectively with individuals, teams and leaders, create a positive environment that supports employee engagement, provide feedback and coaching to enhance employee performance, interview, select and retain the best people and manage many, sometimes competing, priorities. Program length: Six days within a three-month period, meeting every other week Cohort 3: 4/2-6/11/15 Cohort 4: 4/15-6/24/15 Cohort 5: 4/30-7/9/15 Crucial Conversations as Leaders This course focuses on the spirited and respectful dialogue managers need in situations where the stakes are high, opinions vary and emotions run strong. In this course, managers learn to resolve disagreements, build acceptance rather than resistance, speak persuasively, not abrasively, and foster teamwork. Program length: Two days 4/21-4/22/15 5/5-5/6/15 6/17-6/18/15 Proactive Employee Relations (PERs) Engaging our employees and teams helps make medicine better. As managers, we have the greatest impact on the engagement of our people. In this course, managers learn why an engaged workforce is critical to our success, our philosophy about positive and proactive employee relations, how to best engage employees so they remain confident in our leadership and how to address third-party situations. Program length: Half day 4/23/15 5/7/15 6/16/15 Employment Law Training (ELT) Online In this program, people managers will learn how to comply with employment laws by completing three online courses so that they are better able to lead their employees in a fair, nondiscriminatory manner. The online courses discuss: Wage and Hour Integrity Suite Workplace Harassment Choose Learn Succeed This program is required of all BJC leaders, including presidents and executives. Program length: Three online courses with a cumulative length of four hours Proactive Employee Relations (PERs) Online Refresher The PERs Refresher offers reminders about the 7 Actionable Leadership Skills and other skills learned in the instructorled Proactive Employee Relations (PERs) program. Program length: Approximately 12 minutes
7 6 Process Improvement Facilitation Skills for Leaders This 1.5-day session is intended for individuals who are responsible for facilitating teams and meetings. Participants will learn how to facilitate in order to more effectively achieve desired outcomes. Topics include Team Dynamics, Essential Facilitation, Advocacy & Inquiry, Process Tools (tools to generate, evaluate, and decide on ideas), Facilitative Interventions and Planning Effective Meetings. This program has been adopted by BJC executive leadership and is identified as a core competency for transformational efforts. Fee: $20 4/1-4/2/15 5/4-5/5/12 6/2-6/3/15 Human Factors & Ergonomics Workshop This half-day session is designed for all BJC employees in both clinical and non-clinical roles. This workshop explores human factors engineering and how it affects everything we do. The goal is to help employees optimize performance, improve safety, minimize errors and improve productivity. A brief classroom lecture is followed by fun, hands-on demonstrations of human factors at work. 6/30/15 PROCESS IMPROVEMENT Black Belt The Lean Sigma Black Belt (BB) class is designed to teach the tools associated with DMAIC process (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control). This four-week class is an integration of both LEAN and Six Sigma tools. There will be three weeks separating each week of training in order for BB candidates to use what they have learned to progress their project. Their project work will be reviewed throughout the program and submitted for final approval when completed. This program has been adopted by BJC executive leadership and is identified as a core competency for transformational efforts. In order to attend Black Belt you must complete the prerequisite classes, have a current project to work on, and obtain leadership approval. Fee: $250 Project: The project should involve an issue or problem that needs to be addressed but a solution has not been predetermined. Leadership Approval: Transformation Support will reach out to the appropriate leader to request approval. Participants must have: Executive leadership approval Chartered/sponsored project Assigned champion Assigned Black Belt mentor Completed all prerequisite courses (Facilitation Skills for Leaders, ACT, Project Initiate & Plan, Project Management Fundamentals, and Lean Facilitator. KT - Problem Solving and Decision Making is recommended but not a requirement) 6/22-6/26/15 7/20-7/24/15 8/17-8/21/15 9/14-9/18/15 Cause Mapping In this three-day session, participants will learn that the Cause Mapping method is an extremely effective systemsthinking approach to root cause analysis that improves the way people collect and organize information. Cause Mapping is used by front line employees and management to prevent problems and improve results. Participants will learn basic skills to simplify root cause analysis, incident investigation and group problem solving facilitation. Fee: $300 5/4-5/6/15
8 7 Lean Facilitator In this week-long, five-day program, participants will learn and apply core lean tools including Value Stream Mapping, 5S and Visual Management, Standard Work JIT, Push/Pull, Error Proofing, and Daily Management. Participants will also learn how to plan and run Kaizen or Rapid Improvement Events. Participants must have executive leadership approval from TWG and complete the following prerequisite courses: FSL, ACT, and Project Initiate & Plan. Participants should come to class with a current project. Fee: $100 Participants must have: RATIONAL THINKING PROCESSES (KT) Problem Solving and Decision Making This three-day class is based on Kepner-Tregoe s (KT) four rational thinking processes for Situation Appraisal, Decision Analysis, Potential Problem/Opportunity Analysis and Problem Analysis. This program has been adopted by BJC executive leadership and is identified as a core competency for transformational efforts. Fee: $300 5/18-5/20/15 BJC LEARNING INSTITUTE COURSE CATALOG Executive leadership approval Completed all prerequisite courses (Facilitation Skills for Leaders, ACT, Project Initiate & Plan) 4/20-4/24/15 6/8-6/12/15 Lean Leadership This one-day introductory session highlights the basics of the Toyota-based philosophy of executing short-term intense improvements (Kaizen/Rapid Improvement Events) and a more rigorous daily routine. Fee: $20 4/26/15 6/4/15 CHANGE MANAGEMENT Accelerating Change & Transitions (ACT) This 2.5 day session will give BJC leaders an understanding of the Accelerating Change & Transitions (ACT) model and the tools associated with the seven change elements (Leading the Way, Creating a Shared Urgency, Focusing the Vision, Building Coalitions & Commitment, Charting a Transition Roadmap, Aligning Systems & Structures and Sustaining Momentum). This program has been adopted by BJC executive leadership and is identified as a core competency for transformational efforts. Fee: $30 4/8-4/10/15 5/12-5/14/15 6/16-6/18/15 PROJECT MANAGEMENT Project Initiate and Plan This 1.5-day session will help project leaders learn how to develop a thorough, focused project approval and project plan, which is critical to building and maintaining a welldefined project. Fee: $20 5/19-5/20/15 Project Management Fundamentals This three-day program is designed for project managers who are responsible for planning, executing, monitoring and controlling scope, schedule, resource, cost and risk of projects. They will learn the best practices, tools and techniques of project management, including an introduction to Microsoft Project. Fee: $80 4/14-4/16/15 Intermediate Project Management This three-day intermediate level class builds on topics introduced in Project Management Fundamentals. Project Managers will learn techniques to manage requirements, develop quality plans, control project performance, and recommend corrective action plans.
